We're seeing a large influx in newborn kittens and puppies arriving at our shelters. The critical care they need relies on support from animal lovers like you. This June, your donations will be doubled, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000, to protect animals in need. Don't wait - have your gift matched today! If you have a water-loving dog, lakeside adventures are a great way to burn some energy and cool off.

Before you or your dog wades into the water, though, be sure to do a little inspection. It's not uncommon for Minnesota lakes and ponds to produce algae blooms, which can put people and pets at serious risk for illness.
Services
Through our Barn and Business Cats program, Animal Humane Society places healthy cats that aren't suitable as house pets in environments where they can flourish, working to control rat and mice populations. These cats have either proven that they will not use a litterbox appropriately, react poorly with too much handling, or simply prefer more space from humans than a home can provide.
Our friendly adoption staff will work with you to find the right dog, cat, or critter for your home. Get started by checking our online adoption listings (updated every 20 minutes) or stop by one of our three adoption centers in the Twin Cities metro area. It's important you spend time getting to know prospective pets.
If you lease your home, check with your landlord before adopting to be sure you're allowed to have a pet and can afford any required pet deposits. Pets are sometimes returned because of lease restrictions and/or landlord disapproval. This can be an expensive lesson - adoption fees are non-refundable.
Thousands of animals in need of homes come through Animal Humane Society's doors every year. Each has a different story to tell. Some are found as strays, while others are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them. Many are rescued from animal cruelty cases, and even more have traveled hundreds of miles from under-resourced shelters for a second chance.

Such wonderful staff! I really wanted a private cremation when my sweet companion cat of 16 years passed away, but was unable to afford the service anywhere else. I am forever grateful that I now have a meaningful keepsake to remember her by. They also enclosed a condolences card with the sweetest personalized note inside. The staff at Golden Valley Humane Society went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable in this difficult time. They are so kind, compassionate and caring and I can't thank them enough!

We unexpectedly lost our pet Mickey during the night last weekend. We drove the humane society and had asked if we could bring in Mickey to be cremated. Sure enough, we could on a Sunday! What blew me away was the very nice employees, offered us Kleenex's when we had walked in there! We drove down to the vet services to bring Mickey in and I was again, blown away!

I didn't catch any names but the staff was AMAZING, so caring, and very nice and understanding. We had asked if Mickey could be cremated with his blanket since that's what I wanted. The girl made sure that would happen. If you want to cremate your pet, I highly suggest the humane society. I will continue to donate, support and adopt at the HS! You guys rock. Thank you so much for making losing a pet some what easier. I know Mickey was in good hands when I left him.

We adopted all three of our babies at the Golden Valley Humane Society throughout the years! They all had their vaccines and surgeries needed prior to adopting! We love going back and visiting the other animals. The volunteers and employees are passionate about caring for these animals and finding them forever homes.

Had to say goodbye to my sick pet. Their end of life program is top notch and very inexpensive comparatively. I got a postcard a few days later with my pooches paw print. Awesome service!

Awww. If I had land and was adequately, financially able. every animal would come home with us! I've considered joining such a rewarding, dedicated organization and add to the compassionate, strong and welcoming team. Being a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2013 holds such honour and sincere gratitude.

April 2021: We went to go adopt a hedgehog. Unfortunately, she was already adopted so we checked out the cats. Only one available that needed to be homed by themselves and we already have cats. We went to the dog area and eventually agreed to adopt our Loki. The name idea being he would be "low key". He has been a blessing. The staff helped us through the process and offered suggestions on what items we would need for our first dog. I really appreciated how serious they took COVID-19. I would highly recommend this location.

Adopted a dog today! Fell in love at first sight. Soon as we got him home he adapted immediately. He seems so happy and I'm so glad we chose this location today. The staff was so helpful and friendly. He loves to play and is such a cuddle bug. Can't wait to watch him grow! Thank you Animal Humane Society!
