Animal Rescue of Fresno (ARF) was established in 1998 by a group of community members in Fresno, CA that wanted to do something about the high number of homeless dogs that were dying because no one gave them a chance to find their forever home. ARF began its operations out of a small facility on Belmont Ave and Highway 99.

ARF moved to its current location on Dakota Avenue in 2005. From its humble beginnings, ARF has grown quickly, so that more and more dogs each year can be rescued and adopted out to loving forever homes.

If you are considering adopting a dog we like all our potential clients to consider an adoption as very serious, life changing commitment. We love and care for all our dogs here at ARF as if each one were our own and it is incredibly important that they find homes that treat them the same way. We work very hard to match the right dog personality with the right prospective home and it is our intention that the dog that goes home with you gets to spend the rest of their life with you. Please review the Pet Finder list below to find your next best friend.
Your support and contributions enable the Animal Rescue of Fresno to continue saving and providing for dogs throughout the Fresno area. Your generous donation will continue to fund our mission. We hope you will consider a one-time or reoccurring donation to continue support all dogs on their journey to find their forever homes.
As a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that receives no government funding, ARF relies entirely on the support of friends in the community to sustain its operations and programs. We encourage you to join us! Some of the ways you can help are listed below, but don't hesitate to contact us about other opportunities.
The following are ARF Partners. Supporting their businesses help support ARF in return. These businesses provide a portion of the purchase or support ARF through donations. ARF will only ever post a business that they support and products they've used themselves.

Avoid this shelter. My 11 year old was trying to help by donating items that they requested on their website. We went by the shelter and they are only open by appointment. Understandable, but we were only trying to hand off dog food, dog toys, and other supplies. Multiple employees vehicles were there so my 11 year old rang their Ring doorbell. An extremely grumpy woman told my daughter "We're closed!" over the remote doorbell.

No apologies, no attempt at being nice to a child. My daughter explained that we had donations to drop off and the woman just barked "We're closed!" again and stopped talking to my child. So all of our donations are going to other shelters. My recommendation is for everyone to do the same.

I know it's essential for the caregivers who take care of pets to have love and do what is best for each and every animal to ensure potential owners are right for adoption or finding pets and getting the pet back to there families. I see this in the animal rescue of Fresno.

I love the people here, they really do care for dogs so much & they go out of thier way to ensure a good life for the doggos. A shelter is meant to get dogs in & out & make sure they find good loving homes. But with ARF they do so much more. As a non-kill shelter I'm honored to be a part of them.

There are few things as important to us as our wee canine companions. The white dog in the basket, thirteen years old, came to us via ARF in 2011. So when tragedy struck recently, we went in search of another small dog. While we live 200 miles away, ARF came to our rescue again, hence the small orange dog in the basket. ARF is one of those places - kind, conscientious, thorough, special. We drove past dozens of snooty, uncommunicative rescue agencies to use our good friends at ARF again. We can't recommend them enough!

ARF is awesome and they do good work. Picked up my new addition to the family "Rozee." She's a sweetheart and came spayed, up to date shots and microchipped. Very happy!

My mom adopted a dog from here a few weeks ago. After being in contact with one of the lady's for awhile we finally pick her up. We are told she has kennel cough. We stay vigilant and take care of the dog. Her condition worsens and my mom is forced to take her to the vet. We find out this whole time the dog has had pneumonia and was given the wrong medication for treating it.

Once my mom told them that she had pneumonia they immediately stopped texting back. Our baby piper is now after a month of being sick starting to get better. The medical bills piled up and I feel that the shelter should refund at least the adoption fee. They gave us a dog that had an illness we had no idea she had. This place is shady and will recommend to my friends to not adopt here.

Due to an emergency in our home, my family had to find a new place for our dog, Sharky. We ran out of time to find a family, so we took Sharky to Animal Rescue Of Fresno. It was so hard leaving our pup, but these awesome people made it so much better for us all. They treated Sharky as their own and were so kind to us, even going so far as to send me pictures of Sharky- it made such a world of a difference knowing that he was being loved and well taken care of.

We finally found our dog a home, and when we came to get him, some of the employees were even a little emotional about saying goodbye. I cannot speak highly enough about this place, the staff, and the volunteers. Thank you all so much!

Excellent organization. They are by far the best people I have had the pleasure to meet. We adopted Baby Gimlet on Memorial Day and all was good the first day but then the next morning our two boy dogs started to be aggressive towards her. I corresponded with Mindi through messenger about the problem and she was an angel. When I brought her back to the facility she made me feel better about bringing her back and said we could come back to look at older babies later.

She made a heart breaking moment for me more pleasant than anyone ever could. Baby Gimlet was an excellent companion. She learned to climb stairs and go through a doggie door in one day. Plus she cuddled with me at night when she slept.

Came here on a field trip with my students to take a tour of the center and help assemble kennels to transport the dogs! They have a nice facility and the work they do for these animals is amazing! Mindy took us on our tour and did a fabulous job of explaining how and what they do! She was patient with all my kids and made this a positive experience for us! Keep doing great things ARF, you guys are truly AMAZING!

A truly amazing place, it's all volunteer with little to no overhead, meaning what money you donate DOES GO TO THE DOGS, unlike the other rescues you see on tv who have crazy high overheads. This place has a great set up also, it allows for the dogs to be dogs, you get to see them run around and play and interact with each other and get a real sense of personality which you can't get with the places that have to unfortunately keep their animals in runs all day. I've been by a few times and the dogs ALWAYS look well cared for, the yards are almost always clean of poop or messes and always seem to have accessible water and some even have pools to play in.

The Staff varies and are all volunteers themselves and all the times I've visited have been polite and patient with my questions. Overall I love the set up of this place and I recommend people to stop by and see for themselves what great work these people are doing.

We have now adopted three of our fur babies from A.R.F. The adoption process is thorough, and the adoption fees are reasonable. : the staff has a passion for what they do and everything they do is always in the best interest of the animal. They also assist in making sure an animal is a good fit for your family and they help you find the perfect dog.

Best shelter ever! Great volunteers, fantastic dogs, and great environment for them. They have some poor pups that have been there for years- but they still receive love! This is a non-profit organization- donate, donate, donate. The place is super clean, they each have their own spot at night inside from the elements- but they all get to play in special yards during the day. I live far away now- but still go to ARF. Please support a local no-kill facility and find your fur-ever friend (or friends!) here!

Every one of my dogs has come from ARF ( Animal Rescue of Fresno). They work very hard at allowing the dogs to be dogs. The only time a dog is in a kennel is at bed time. They are non profit so they can use donations. The volunteers are awesome and they match the right dog with the right family. The volunteers care about each dog and every dog has a name.

If you are researching a dog to adopt please visit them. When you adopt you save 2 lives the one you adopt and the one they can rescue after you adopt. Way to go ARF! Keep up the great work!

If you've ever visited an animal shelter and been completely heartbroken by the time you left, you will be amazed when you see this one. ARF is a non-profit, NO KILL dog shelter that is run completely by volunteers. This place is truly a labor of love for the founder and the volunteers that dedicate so much of their time to caring for these dogs.

I recently visited the shelter and asked for a tour of the facilities. One of the volunteers spent about half an hour walking me around the grounds and showing me all the different areas. The dogs are segregated by size and activity level, but each group (i.e. small/ senior) is allowed to roam freely within their yard! I've never been to a dog shelter in which the dogs could run about freely as a pack and I think that is wonderful and amazing that the dogs are able to do this at ARF.

At night, they are sheltered with their group in crates in various buildings. The crates are mostly the same type that a person would use at their house for crate training or for traveling. They also have blankets in the bottom of their crates for comfort. The buildings are very clean and do not smell. I truly believe that this is a model shelter and I wish that more were like this, both in terms of the level of care and freedom given to the dogs, and also the NO KILL philosophy.

If you love dogs and are wanting to add one to your family, I HIGHLY encourage you to seek out and support ARF. It's worth mentioning that they often rescue dogs from "death row" that are due to be euthanized at other local shelters. Note that this shelter is NOT for cats or any other type of animal. It is for dogs only. They do have a few sweet cats that are permanent residents of ARF but they do not have the facilities for rehoming cats.

If you can't adopt, consider volunteering as they can always use more help. They have volunteer orientations on the first and third Saturday of every month, from 10am - 12pm. I plan on attending the next available one.

A no-kill facility off of highway 168. I've gone to a couple of their used book sale fund raisers, and they have a nice facility going for them. It's spotlessly clean, for one thing, and the animal smells are at a minimum. The cats I've seen there, which are roaming freely, seem calm and well taken care of. I'd adopt a companion from them.
