Services
For the past 27 years, we have worked with our city to help improve the living conditions of homeless animals through rescue and rehabilitation. Upon rescue, the Ark provides all shelter needs and veterinarian preventatives to include: juvenile spay/neuter, shelter, food and a loving "at home" environment for rescued animals, as they wait to be adopted into a new loving home. We refrain from using a euthanizing process unless a dangerous temperament is found in an animal, or a dire mercy case is needed.
The adult adoption program is for animals that have received all of their vaccinations, have been spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and are up-to-date on all heartworm and flea/tick/worm preventatives. When adopted, these animals will go to a new home on a 2-week trial period. A payment to the Ark is required for individuals interested in adoption.
Want to assist the Ark on our journey? There are a number of was you can contribute, through direct donations and programs, or through our partnership reward programs. Take a look! Donate via AmazonSmile, where Amazon donates a percentage of your eligible purchases to charity organizations. Join the Cat's Pride Club at the Cat's Pride website and nominate the Ark as your designated animal shelter to receive free litter. Establish an on-line account at the Fresh Step to participate in the Paw Points Rewards Program (Ark's unique code: SHELTERBONUS1368).
Want to become a volunteer? If you are interested in working with the Ark, please come by the shelter during operating hours, Tuesday - Saturday 11:00am - 4:00pm. We will have the required paperwork for you to fill out and will give you a shelter tour. Then swing by on one of our orientation days to learn about what happens behind the scenes in keeping our residents healthy and happy and how you can help. What can you do as a volunteer?

Wonderful people caring for all the rescue animals. Thrift store is great too. I've had the pleasure of knowing Nina for many years now. She is so dedicated to this place and ESPECIALLY the animals!

Always love the mixed breed they have no problem being whatever pet you need them to be with all the love a shelter pet can possibly give you our goal should be as a society is zero animals in shelters unless by accident. Alabama girl is now a cheesehead and loving every minute of North of 8 living

The staff seemed interested in helping me. They showed genuine concern about my lost dog. went out of there way to show me the dogs they had, even though they haven't taken in any dogs lately. Gave me information on were to check next. Even though I didn't find my dog, I was still pleased with my visit.

The lady named Georgia who works at the thrift store steals donated items and puts them in her boutique in Guntersville. Never donate to this scam of a thrift store. The money does not go to the animals. It goes to the owner for personal use that is the reason for cash sales.

The gentleman who helped me at the Thrift Store was friendly and eager to get my stuff. Looks like they could really use donations of cash or items for the Thrift store. Recommend giving them consideration when looking for a pet.

I only went to the thrift store. This place is packed with interesting finds. The prices are excellent. We were told that all clothing was 50 percent off as we walked through the door. I only wish I had found more that I liked. As a bonus, there was a friendly kitty back in the book section. Stop by and scratch his head.

As a no-kill shelter, they are good. I was disappointed when I dropped off a van load of donations (many brand or designer items, some NWT or NIB). There was nobody who could help unload and carry items into the Thrift Store. In the future, I will be more inclined to donate to The Humane Society, as I have in the past. The only reason I didn't use them this time is because they're closed because of COVID (and also liquidating prior to opening a new facility).

These fine people are saving cats and dogs. I have adopted 2 dogs. I wouldn't have had these years of dog love if they had not been saved by the Ark

I went on a Monday & was looking at dogs but because I live in an apartment, I couldnt get a big dog which was totally fine. They had me looking at this beagle that was absolutely ADORABLE. unfortunately I wasnt able to get her that day because she needed to go to the vet to get her ears checked. They told me about another dog that I could look at which was at the vet at the time so they told me to come in Friday & had me write my name on a piece of paper to hold the beagle.

I come in Friday & a different lady is there. I tell her my situation & she tells me that they put the beagle on hold for someone else! I persisted that the beagle is what i was there for, or at least the other dog that they told me about. yet, the lady apologized and wouldnt give me either dogs because I live in an apartment. VERY disappointed that I wasted my time and gas to get absolutely nothing. Edit: Jan 2021 I recommend you going to the Humane Society Shelter! I got my current dog from there the day I was rejected mine from Ark and I LOVE him to death! I'm surprised that i'm thankful Ark didnt give me their beagle that day!

Http://www.arkinc.org/thriftstore.html There is a wonderful thrift store here, that has some really helpful, hardworking volunteers. The store is clean, organized, easy to shop. Also think about making a donation, when cleaning out your closets. Don't forget, spay and neuter your pets, they are a life long commitment.
