Services
Shirley Catterall is the sole owner and proprietor of Arnold Creek Cat Retreat. She lives on site and is able to attend to the boarders at Arnold Creek Cat Retreat first thing in the morning, last thing at night and throughout the day. Shirley has a total of fifteen years of experience working as either a veterinary technician or owning cat boarding facilities, both in England and the United States. Prior to her current work, Shirley's background was in law enforcement. She was a Police Officer in Liverpool, England for over thirteen years.
All guests get to be out of their rooms at least two or three times a day to play and explore the main area. Only the occupant(s) of one room at a time come out so your cat will never be in contact with cats from another household. All guests are given fresh water twice daily and meals per their owner's requests.
At Arnold Creek Cat Retreat all guests are accommodated in their own rooms -- NOT cages. Each room has a shelf beneath a large window for prime bird watching, a cozy bed, food and water dishes, a litter box and toys. There are additional shelves at different heights around each room. For those long winter nights, there are lights controlled by a dimmer switch in each room.
Scheduling appointments, during the posted hours, not only helps to avoid driveway congestion at the Cat Retreat, but also allows Shirley and her support staff to organize the day to care for your loved ones. We are doing driveway drop off and pick up. We'll meet you at your car (of course we'll be wearing a mask) and take your kitty from you, get them settled in their room and return the carrier to you before you leave.

I'm new to cat ownership and was very stressed out about the prospect of boarding my cat for the first time. He has a ton of energy and a prescription diet due to being prone to urinary crystals. My sister told me to bring him here (apparently she had boarded him here previously before transferring care to me after the birth of my niece) and Shirley was very kind in walking me through the process and getting it all set up. Plus, based on the preliminary research I did, the price is beyond fair. Plenty of places in Portland charge way more for way less. If I'm out of town again I wouldn't think about housing Milo anywhere else.

I have been bringing my cat Kady here for several years and I am very happy with everything they do. It is very professional and personalized care and I know that my old girl is in very good hands when she is there! I highly recommend Shirley and staff!

Traveling can be complicated enough without worrying about the well-being of your pets. So it's great to know that your feline is in the best hands possible -- not only safe and professionally cared for, but happy and thriving. Shirley and team are the A-plus-team.

We've been happy clients of the Arnold Creek Cat Retreat for years. The cat rooms are clean, bright, and beautiful. Shirley and her team always take exceptional care of our kitty. It's a huge relief to know he'll be safe and happy when we're out of town.

Shirley is amazing! We left for a trip for 10 days and had to board our little 1 and half year old cat. Shirley was very kind and friendly and explained the entire process. This was our first experience with boarding a pet and we will absolutely be coming back to Arnold Creek Cat Retreat. Thank you!

My 2 cats have boarded at Arnold Creek for a couple of years now.usually for 10-15 days at a time a couple of times per year. One of them has diabetes, arthritis, asthma and the occasional nervous tummy. The other has terrible sinus issues at times. I never worry about them in Shirley's capable and loving hands. She is acutely aware of cat behaviors and conditions and keeps a sharp eye out for problems.

Plus she just loves them so much. My cats always resist getting in their carriers to leave and run back to their room and to Shirley before agreeing to the ride home! Yes, it hurts my feelings a little, but also warms my heart. I wouldn't leave them anywhere else.

I boarded my cat at Arnold Creek for 2 weeks; will definitely take him here again. I love that he stayed in a closet-sized room with a window rather than a little cage, like other places. Plus the owner keeps it super clean, even with multiple cats being boarded there was no litter box smell!

Used this place a few times & my 2 cats seem to do really well and they can be difficult kitties. They have nice little rooms for each of the cats and no cages. They do fill quick, so it's best to plan ahead when wanting to use them. I use this place any time I need to board my guys.

We have used the retreat several times for our two pets, and have always been extremely pleased with all aspects of the service they provide---the facilities are truly charming and set up specifically for the optimal comfort of the cats, the staff is warm and affectionate with their charges, and professional and informed with 'the parents'. And all at a really competitive rate! We feel very lucky that we have such a terrific resource for cat boarding right in the neighborhood.

I found Shirley and The Arnold Cat Retreat on line so went without any recommendations and have never regretted it! The retreat is clean and calming (for the cats and the cat owners) and I could tell simply by talking with Shirley that she would care for my cat as I would. Her approach definitely tells you of someone who 'gets cats'. She or one of her staff sits with the cats soon after arrival just to let them know the people who will care for them, they get to get out of their room once in a while to stretch and run or simply to investigate, each room is set up for maximum comfort (this side of your bed or your lap), provides a safe hiding spot and a window. Shirley's background in animal care also comforts me should my cat ever need any aditional attention.

I could go on and on and this is after only a one time stay for my cat Cozy I was so comfortable with Shirley and the retreat that I am about to leave my cat Cozy for two weeks and have no worries at all! Susan
