Services
Bark Tutor is a Bradley Phifer Dog Training facility located in Broad Ripple. Our program is designed for companion dogs to learn basic obedience commands and life skills. We use positive reinforcement techniques to train the family dog. Bark Tutor instructors provide your dog a solid foundation of training commands and life skills.
Puppies 8-16 weeks old spend five days a week learning essential life skills. We focus on training necessary commands, rewarding desired behaviors while correcting undesired behaviors so you and your family can have a happy, healthy relationship with your puppy. Throughout Day Training, your puppy will learn how to respond to new people and dogs as well as how to behave and respond to commands in a wide range of environments. We will also teach you the necessary verbal cues and how to read your puppy's body language, so you are equipped to implement the training at home.
Owners and their dogs attend group classes together. We'll teach you how to create a vocabulary of commands for your dog and how to prevent and resolve common nuisance behaviors. Classes are held weekly for one hour. Class options include Puppy Kindergarten for dogs less than 16 weeks of age and Family Manners for dogs 16 weeks and older.

We took our 4 month old golden retriever puppy Milly to Bark Tutor for their 3 week day training program. The entire staff and our trainer Kayla were so amazing with Milly and I felt so comfortable leaving her there everyday and knew she was in the best care. Over those three weeks her daily report card was the best part of my day! We recently took her to an outdoor brewery to practice her new skills and the experience was like night and day compared to before training. Thank you Kayla and Bark Tutor for giving us the best behaved family member.

HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend. When we first got our GSD puppy we knew we wanted a formal training program. We opted for the 3 week day training program. It is 100% worth every penny. Kayla, our trainer, is phenomenal and worked with us on the basic obedience training, answered any and all questions we had, and often went above and beyond with any extra troubleshooting we needed etc.

She not only helped train Ruby but she also helped train us to be better communicators with our doggo. I cannot recommend her enough as she is truly a gifted trainer. BarkTutor was very flexible with us after we had to reschedule due to conflicts and make adjustments due to my education/work requirements.

My pup Mulligan had the BEST experience at Bark Tutor! He went for the 3 week puppy training and after one week had already learned so much! Each day you also get a report card with info on how they did and photos of them playing. The trainers also meet with you 2 times a week to show you what your dog has learned and help to train you on how to do the commands.

Even after the 3 weeks are up, they check back with you to see if you have any additional concerns/issues. I would 100% recommend them for puppy training! Our trainer, Taylor, was the best :

Bark Tutor is an outstanding place to take your puppy or dog for training. I took my 3 month old basenji for Day Training. Day Training is a three week program where your dog is assigned a trainer 5 days a week to learn basic skills, manners, etc. Kayla was our trainer and we had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend Bark Tutor and Kayla. The entire staff is professional, reliable, friendly, attentive to you and your pooch. My puppy is now so well behaved and I have the confidence to take him in public and enjoy the experience. Thank you Kayla and Bark Tutor!

Bark Tutor and our trainer Kayla were amazing! My dogs behavior improved so much. He was always sweet and smart but could be a handful at times and now he listens so much better and is so much more attentive to me. I can't recommend bark tutor enough! I also love that they took pictures of him throughout the day.

We took our puppy there for training. The training classes were good, but we now have a puppy with kennel cough and intestinal parasites. Our dog was fully vaccinated prior to going to school there. The facility is cramped and unclean. Do not take your dog here! The management did not care about our dog and will not credit us anything to help with the vet bills. We have other dogs in our home who are starting to show signs of the cough and will need treatment, most likely.

Thanks to the entire Bark Tutor team but especially to Taylor, a first rate trainer for our 4-month-old puppy. Not only did our pup learn basic obedience and good manners, she finished her course with greater confidence to match her curiosity. We are very pleased with our BT experience!

We can not say enough amazing things about Bark Tutor and our amazing trainer Kayla! Our Great Dane puppy started with Kayla and completed two full training sessions with her (per our request).Kayla helped to teach and enforce basic commanding skills with Phoebe and socialization around other animals and people. Kayla was absolutely amazing in her knowledge and understanding of dogs and has an ability to read and understand their individual personalities and base their training lessons specific to their needs.

During our one on one training sessions with Phoebe and Kayla every week we were able to walk away with new knowledge and techniques of handling skills for Phoebe. Every day we received a very detailed report card about the lessons Phoebe had that day as well as pictures. It was very clear that Kayla and all of the staff at Bark Tutor loved Phoebe as if she was one of their own.

This was such a comforting feeling to have when dropping Phoebe off each day. We are forever grateful for Bark Tutor and plan to use there Seven Acres boarding as well in the near future!

Kerrigan is wonderful! She came to our home for a private lesson for our 14 week old puppy. She's not only an excellent trainer (she had our puppy behaving within minutes), she's an excellent teacher. Her instructions were clear and precise, and she was extremely patient with me. She even called me a few days later to inquire how it was going and to answer follow up questions. Worth every penny!

My four and a half month old Goldendoodle is attending three weeks of training at Bark Tutor. Taylor is our trainer and I could not be more impressed. The training is above what I expected, and Taylor is an amazing trainer. My Goldendoodle responds so good to training and loves to play with all her new friends. She is pretty tired by end of day. I can safely say you get your moneys worth at Bark Tutor. Definitely a five star rating!

Our 4 month old Golden Retriever just finished his 3 week intensive puppy training at Bark Tudor. We can't say enough about this positive rewarding experience for both our puppy and ourselves as owners. The entire staff was very professional, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Our trainer, Kayla, was amazing and worked wonders with our puppy in a short amount of time.

She answered all of our questions and concerns and it was evident how much she cared about his training and ultimate success. We would definitely recommend Bark Tudor for your puppy's training and give it a 5 star rating.

Kayla was an outstanding teacher. She worked so well with Lincoln and taught us as well. She communicated very well and we felt like we knew everything that was going on with Lincoln during the day. The report cards with pictures were great. Bark Tutor took very good care of him and he is now a more confident puppy. Highly recommend Kayla and Bark Tutor. Sign up was a bit confusing on the web page, but the service was outstanding.

Paige did an amazing job helping train our dog Juno. They schedule 2 individual training sessions per week during the day school program where they ask your concerns and help you understand how to reinforce good behaviors at home. They fill up quickly and rightfully so. Juno has learned so much in such a short time; highly recommend!

I could not recommend a better place to send your dog for school! When we adopted our dog Ivy, we realized she was going to need some work. She was over a year old but had no formal training and still acted like a full blown puppy. We called Bark Tutor, and they were able to immediately answer all our questions! They allowed us to schedule her for a 3 week day camp over the phone; we just needed to send them her vet records.

Once she got started, we were assigned a trainer. Nick did an amazing job and was really able to read what she needed as she picked up on training pretty quickly. The first private session you tell your trainer what three goals you really want to make for your dog and that will be their main focus for the 3 weeks. He went at her pace instead of making her stay on one task when she already had it mastered which was super nice!

They give you 7 private lessons when you come pick your dog up in the afternoons and have you practice in real environments (i.e. the neighborhood streets, Pet Supplies Plus, and near the Vet office). Nick provided us with all the supplemental material we needed! They allow your dog to participate in play groups during the day as well to give them a mental break.

We had never had Ivy in a large playgroup before, so it was nice to get a professionals perspective on her play style and what to recognize as good and bad play behavior. At the end of the 3 weeks, you still have access to all the supplemental material and your dog graduates! They take a cute photo of them in a cap. During the 3 weeks they covered everything from sit, stay, down, place commands to all aspects of leash walking.

The 3 week program is a little pricey at a little over $800, but the results you get from the experience are priceless! And if that's too expensive, they also offer a 1 week program.

Our sweet rescue dog, Rosie, came to us with a few issues left over from her previous life. After only one week in the adult day school program she's made incredible progress! We appreciate the whole staff and especially Melissa, Rosie's trainer. Melissa sets clear expectations with Rosie and helps her succeed with the perfect mix of firmness and positive reinforcement. Our individual lessons with her make it easy to help Rosie continue her progress at home. Thanks Melissa and Bark Tutor!

Hudson went to dog school all day from 8-5 this week, and was trained one on one for 1-2 hours a day. Wow, what a difference a week makes. He has 2 more weeks to go, and so far so good. Bark Tutor School for Dogs is wonderful and everyone there is so kind and sweet. It so great that they train in a positive way and are NOT hard handed. I love how patient Brittany is with our boy and it helps that she owns a couple of GSDs and understands the breed. Good job Hudson!

This is a truly wonderful location to have your dog trained! My little pup loved it and he has learned a lot over the three-week program. Britney is an especially gifted trainer and I'm really quite grateful for their time and effort with my dog!

As first-time dog owners, my fiance and I knew right when we got our pup that we'd need assistance in not only training him but more importantly training us. Bark Tutor came highly recommended and we are so glad we chose to enroll Ralston in their puppy Pre-k. He is a vizsla, very high energy, and beyond the typical tricks and behavior shaping, we needed to learn how to properly expend his energy. Bark Tutor did just that.

He still has his puppy tendencies, of course, but now we have a better understanding of how to work out with him and keep him a happy dog. The short instructional sessions every other day were necessary and so helpful. Ralston loved playing with the other dogs, and the trainers took great care of him. It's also a nice day care option, even though we have yet to take advantage of it, because only alumni are allowed and they do continue with some of the training and expectations he had while in the training program. We are looking forward to returning for the four extra sessions we receive, which is an added bonus to the pre-k program.

I'm currently enrolled in the Family Manners series with my 2.5 year old recently adopted pup. This was good for me since I've only had my dog a few months and he didn't have any skills. The class is very basic meaning you learn name recognition, sit, stay, down, leave it, and come. I will say that when the class is full (meaning 8 dogs and families) it can be hard to focus for both you and your dog.

The distraction is good to hone in on the specific skills, but I have wasted an hour there when I couldn't get my dog to focus. I think that a smaller class size may be more ideal for truly new animals.

Disappointed that when I told Bark Tutor that my flat coated retriever had leash aggression they would not accept him for training. Seem that only well behaved dogs need apply.

As far as puppy schools go, I can't imagine finding a better place to send your dog for training than Bark Tutor. First of all, they are so accommodating. We had to keep postponing our start date for our puppy and all it took was a quick phone call and reschedule. Also, one day I was sick and couldn't bring him in, and another we were going out of town, so they just tacked 2 extra "make up" days on at the end to equate to the full 3 weeks of training.

The staff in general are so nice and great with the dogs. I knew I was leaving my new puppy in good hands. We brought our 4 month old Cavapoo for the 3-week day school. It might seem expensive, but it was so worth it. 1) The training itself is outstanding. Before bringing him in basically all he knew was "sit." Now he knows sit, down, stay, come, and leave it.

He waits at doorways with a simple "Wait" followed by "let's go." These commands make your every day life with your new dog so much less frustrating. We were so happy with the trainers themselves as well, and I could tell that my puppy really enjoyed working with them. 2) He got a ton of socialization with other dogs that we couldn't provide at home. He's little so this was great for him to not be scared of bigger dogs. 3) He was so tired at the end of the day! Picking up a tired puppy and having a quiet evening cannot be underestimated. We can't wait to bring our puppy back in a few months for higher level classes!

After getting several recommendations for dog training, my husband and I decided to bring our young female Scottish terrier to Bark Tutor for training. After a brief game of phone tag we were signed up for Puppy classes. They offer discounts the more classes you purchase, so consider how many sessions you'll want to attend. Classes are offered in the evening nearly every day of the week to accommodate your schedule.

Our puppy class, taught by Deb, was four weekly one hour classes that helped us socialize our pup and teach basic commands. As with anything like this, you'll need to put in a lot of work outside of class to help your pooch solidify their skills. I felt like our dog really benefitted from this class, and it was money well spent! I will say this: everything depends on the teacher.

Our second round of classes, Family Manners 1, was not nearly as beneficial due to our teacher. We didn't really learn anything new, he did not offer much guidance and taught things that our first teacher specifically warned us against. I really felt like we didn't get our money worth with this teacher. I was very disappointed. Luckily there are a few teachers that lead each level of classes, so feel free to message me if you'd like my recommendation. We are signed up for another four week class and look forward to helping our pup learn more skills!

One of life's best pleasures is the friendship of a canine. For me, a house just doesn't feel like a home without a dog. Loyal, compassionate, hardworking, there are many reasons they call him 'man's best friend.' But unfortunately, Fido doesn't develop these endearing characteristics naturally. The puppy period is the most critical time in a dog's development and investing dedication and discipline will yield years of happiness, for both species involved. Bark Tutor gets this, and they are fantastic with both the animals and the owners.

When my wife and I decided our home was ready for a pooch of our own, we both agreed that our best course of action was to enroll in a local puppy class. We read some training books, browsed online videos and blogs, but once we got our pup in the class, we both immediately realized how beneficial this was for the development and social needs for our puppy.

To to see how training is done right - in person, then doing it with the coaches at Bark Tutor is the by far the best way to learn how to train a dog right. The staff is great; Debbie, one of the instructors, is awesome with explaining not only how to teach different behaviors, but why they are important and the cues your dog will give you for feedback.

She is great with managing all the different breeds and behaviors in the group, and keeps everyone in check during play time. The prices are reasonable compared to others in the area, classes can also be bundled for multi class discounts. After finishing the Puppy Kindergarten class, we are starting the Family Manners 1, then 2. They also offer an AKC Canine Good Citizens class for advanced dogs.

In addition to the group and private classes, Bark Tutor also has doggy day-care, which we have heard good things about. We plan to complete all the classes and use the skills for a long, healthy life for our Scottish terrier, not to mention for the well-being and of the owners too. Check them out, great location and awesome service. You and your dog will both be happy you did.

We took our 3 month old puppy, Louis, here for training in the puppy day school. We were so incredibly impressed. While it may seem expensive at first, if you shop around and consider the prices for just a dog walker every day for four weeks, they're fairly comparable - and that doesn't include the awesome training you get at Bark Tutor.

I loved the fact that I could drop off my dog in the morning on my way to work and pick him up afterwards. The "transition lesson" upon pickup was a nice touch - it helped me feel involved and gave me a good idea of what to practice. The staff was incredibly friendly throughout the class and more than willing to work with us when our dog got sick for three days.

They were super patient with Louis and helped internalize a lot of good behaviors. He knows a lot of basic commands after the puppy school: sit, down, stay, polite behavior at doorways, and other important things. The most important thing to make this worth your money is doing the "homework" at home. They do a good job in transition lessons letting you know what you need to work on with your dog; ignore it, and you won't get the results you want!
