Services
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. When special diagnostic procedures are required, we coordinate with local practices or specialty hospitals. Our facility includes a well stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in house radiology, a closely supervised hospitalization ward, and indoor boarding kennels, with outdoor walking areas.
Cape Fear Animal Hospital's four veterinarians are here to provide you with quality medical care for your pets. Our doctors have a range of special interests, including orthopedic surgery, dentistry and internal medicine. Our Client Care Specialists are the first faces you see each visit. They have the busiest and possibly the most difficult job in our hospital.
Annual dental exams and cleanings are recommended to protect your pet from many health problems and help them maintain a healthy and clean mouth. Proper diet and nutrition can help your pet fight against disease, maintain a proper weight, and promote the overall well-being of your pet. Annual wellness exams evaluate your pets overall health, detect problems before they become serious, and keep them on track to live a long, healthy life. We're equipped to perform routine radiography services to identify many types of illness or injury when pets are sick or suffer a trauma.
We are an equal opportunity employer that strives to create a welcoming environment for employees and patients alike. If there is ever a career opportunity, qualified candidates will be contacted for interviews. We encourage special interests such as surgery, dentistry, dermatology, exotics, oncology, physical therapy, behavior, ophthalmology, large animals, and anything you may have a passion for.

The first person I came in contact with was not very welcoming. She was behind the counter busy doing other work and therefore not available to greet me. However, at the end of my visit, I was helped by another staff member (someone who has been there several years), and she was very friendly and very welcoming, with a nice attitude. Doctor Jonas and the vet tech who treated my dog Harper, were very professional and friendly throughout the visit.

I believe my cat, that had been trapped under a bathtub (walled in by contractors) for 3 weeks received all necessary tests to deem him healthy (this was an ER type visit & not my normal vet.) I did not care for the fact that they took him in the back (out of the exam room for over an hour to draw blood, etc.) That said, what bothered me the most was when I was taken into the exam room, the dog in there before had urinated on the floor and despite my pointing it out, no one cleaned it up (I did it myself while my cat was getting labs done.) Overall, I wasn't too surprised since the exam room had decades of filth on the floor & walls.

I do not mean a little messy; I mean layers, upon layers of dirt and grime. I do not recommend you use this place, especially for your pet's routine care. It can't be a healthy environment for pets or even employees.

Cape Fear Animal Hospital has been our vet for the past 23 years. They treat us like family! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure our fur babies receive the best care possible. Highly recommend!

My mother has been taking our family dogs to Dr. Jonas for years, then I got my dog and tried out 2 other vets before coming to Dr Jonas and let me say I am very picky where I take my dog, I've never felt more comfortable here and I know my dog is in good hands. The entire staff is wonderful. We have gone through everything with this vet from basic wellness exams to saying goodbye to 2 of our dogs and I can't think of one negative thing to say. I save so much money a year being a paw plan member. Our family will definitely miss Dr Jonas when she retires in February! Thank you for all you do for my fur babies!

I got an interview with Cape Fear Animal Hospital a couple of months ago. I went in for an interview which I felt went really well but I still had a "working interview" to do. I did not think anything about it. I came in the next day to do the interview which was for kennel assistant so I had to help walk the dogs and clean up the kennels and their walk area outside.

I recommend that if they ask you to do a working interview you say not unless you pay me for my time. That is a lot of work to do for no type of compensation while the worker just walks behind you the whole time. free pay for them. Then to not hear anything AT ALL from them afterwards was unprofessional at all.

My golden retriever kept licking his privates and his hind legs would shake. He wasn't himself so I took him to Cape Fear Animal Hospital. They said he had a skin infection and allergies. The problem wasn't the diagnosis but the delivery. The doctor tried to use fear tactics to get me to buy products for his "Allergies." For example, I stated my dog isn't neutered and that's something I want to discuss and the doctor's response "You have bigger things to worry about.allergies." I checked my vet bill and it was $90 for my dog's antibiotics and $90 for his allergy medicine that would be needed monthly, all year because the doctor suspects he has year round allergies.

I told them no thank you, I will take the antibiotics but will shop around for allergy medication. I thought that was the end of it but today I got a phone call and voicemail that stated how "Concerned" they are that I "declined" his medication and they're just "curious" to know if I really "declined" the medication since they haven't had it in stock for weeks so to give them a call.

There was no mention of a medication that was out of stock during our appointment. I received his 2 weeks of antibiotics and to be so concerned that I would price shop for allergy medicine is more fear tactics that prey on my children's love for their dog which is completely unacceptable.

I truly hope and pray people read this review before going to this vet. It is a decision that I will always regret. If I would have listened to them my dog would have died. My dog was struggling to breathe and her tongue and mouth were turning purple. They misdiagnosed her. After X-Rays and evaluation, they told me she did not have congestive heart failure and that they cannot figure out what was wrong with her.

After 4 hours of being told "we don't know what is wrong", my dog was in an incubation chamber and could barely breath on her own. I was told I had to take her by 2pm because they were closing early. Even though she could not breathe on her own, they said that would not keep her. I was told I could take her to the after hours animal hospital that opens at 6pm.

When I asked them if she would live until 6pm, the Dr.'s exact response was, "I don't know, take her somewhere else" The staff made me walk into the back and get her out of the incubation chamber. I can only assume they did this because they did not want to be liable if something happened to her. I left at 1:15 and had her at another vet by 1:30(that I had never been to before but saw my dog immediately because of her condition).

They checked her X-Rays that were taken from Cape Fear Animal Hospital and immediately recognized she had congestive heart failure and her lungs were full of fluid. She couldn't breathe and her lungs were drowning. Cape Fear Animal Hospital was either too incompetent to figure that out or they did not care enough to try to do anything. I don't know which one is worse. Do not make the mistake that I will always regret, PLEASE TAKE YOUR ANIMALS SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I needed a same day appointment for a vaccination for my cat and I went online and made the appointment with ease. When I arrived, my check-in process was smooth. It was curbside so I did not even have to leave my vehicle. The assistant who came out and picked up my cat was extremely friendly. Everyone was very nice and it was very quick.
