Cowen's Pet Resort

Kept my dogs here for the weekend. Didn't take pictures but they are kept outside in covered fenced cages that are just connected to each other in huge groups that are built over a dirt field. Why isn't that on the lovely pictures that are posted for this place My dogs stunk and desperately needed a bath when we brought them home because of the environment they were kept in.

My dogs are inside dogs so I felt bad for them. I didn't drop them off so I didn't know until I picked them up. I've never used a pet boarding place before but I guess this is normal Here's a picture I found online that looks similar to what I saw. Just imagine isles and isles of these and they are all connected. Dog comfort was not intended when this place was built.

My dogs were still alive so ill give 2 stars 6-17-22 Response to your response. I know what I saw and smelled. Of course your not going to agree with what I posted and say I'm making it up basically. It's ok, it doesn't really matter to me what's thought of my review. I just wanted to share my personal experience on what I saw and smelled.

This place is terrible. The dogs are in outside cages with other dogs all around them they are able to bark and bite at each other between the chain length fencing that separate them. I saw two dogs going at each other between there kennels. I only kept my Boxer there one night and when I brought her home she slept for 12 straight hrs. I can only imagine the what she whent through during the night.

I normally board her at furs and feathers pet resort but they were booked. Never one time has my dog came back from furs and feathers in the condition she came back from Cowen's. I will never use them again.

I highly recommend this place if you need somewhere for your pet to be when they cant be home with you. Very clean, very friendly, very safe pet resort. Our dog is not friendly with other dogs, but friendly with people, and he had no issues any of the times we have dropped him off. They interacted with him and made him feel at home while staying there. All of the staff we have met has been great also. 10 out of 10.

This was our first time leaving our dogs anywhere. We gave Cowen's pet resort a try and I have to say we loved it! Our pets came back home happy! Both our dogs would cry when we would put them in the car to take them anywhere and bark at any dog and anyone passing by. Since we left them there the whole way back home they both layed down on the back without making any noise. We were so surprised! There is a difference in our dogs and its a good difference. Thats a definite that we will be using them in the future.

I have to admit I was hesitant taking my 10 year old shepherd mix, Giovanni, to stay here during a heat wave (104° and up). The kennels are all outdoors and my dog doesn't spend much time outdoors unless we're going on walks, in the pool, or just hanging out in the grass - AKA he's a spoiled indoor dog. Here's the details on Gio's visit: He was placed in a large kennel - divided into two sections: Section 1 has cement and is fully shaded.

Section 2 is dirt and without shade. I believe they also have misters, but I couldn't see from where I was standing. Food: You can opt to have your pet fed the food that is provided or bring your own. I opted to bring Gio's food, divided in individual breakfast and dinner baggies (this is Cowen's policy). Gio also takes 2 medications a day - they had no problem administering his meds. Extras: Gio being the spoiled pup he is, I opted to have him exercised and given ice cream during his stay.

Maybe it was mom guilt for leaving him in the burning heat for 2 days, but I'm sure he enjoyed it. (There is an additional charge for this) His 2 night/ 3 day stay totaled $55. Gio came back happy and healthy. They even provide you with a cute report card (see attached photo) for how your pet did. A+ camper for G! Will be taking here again in the future.

Our babies stayed here for a week. They came back happy & healthy. Ozzie and Bear loved it here. I definitely recommend. They are more than affordable!

Great service. They took care of my two dogs; one who does not like strangers, so I was concerned as to how well the staff would be able to care for him. To my surprise, they were able make friends with him and he was well cared-for. The staff is very passionate about what they do and their actions show it. The kennels are clean, large and well-kept. I have no problem leaving my dogs with them again.

We recently took our dogs to Cowen's for a weekend stay. I felt very comfortable leaving them there. I was called immediately when one of my dogs broke their toenail (she has made a full recovery lol). My dogs were absolutely pooped from all the fun they had. We are going on vacation next week and our minds will definitely be at ease knowing our fur babies are in excellent hands!

We have left our pup Zoey with Cowens three times over the the past three years and every time we have had nothing but good experiences. Zoey always comes back happy and in good spirits just as happy as we leave her if not more. The staff is great always friendly and I love how they can always tell us exactly how her stay was in detail. I would definitely recommend Cowens if you are looking to board within the area. We will continue to bring our girl here in the future.

I searched for months for a place I felt comfortable leaving my k9 companion. Everyone seemed very caring & assured me my dog would be happy there & treated well with the best of care. My dog is my emotional support dog & even though it was very difficult leaving him I am so happy I chose Cowen's. They communicated with me with updates & photos through texts on a regular basis. Everyone took great care of him & he made many friends there. He was happy & in great condition when I picked him up! I recommend Cowen's Pet Resort to everyone

We've been using Cowen's for about ten years now and our dog loves it. She gets excited as we pull in the driveway and can hardly wait to get into the office! We always hear good things about her when we come back and can tell that they've been attentive to her needs. I met a lady who used to work there once and when I mentioned what my dog would do she said that she would often see that kind of reaction. She said the pets love it there and the staff really loves animals.

We have been bringing our cavaliers to Cowens since we got our first one 13 years ago. The staff has always taken great care of our fur babies and they have always been happy and well taken care of. We always have them bathed and they do a great job making them look and smell clean. The staff even made a point of calling us one time when our dog was not eating and even made her special food to get her to eat. It's so nice to know my dogs are in good hands when we regretfully have to leave them.

I take my dogs here every time I leave town and they do a good job looking after them. My dogs are excited to go there which I see as a good sign and clearly like the staff. The prices are good and I've never had a problem. I take my dogs about once per month on average. I recommend to friends. A lot of reviews are decrying the grooming - I don't get my dogs groomed here.

I typically bathe them after a stay. It is an outdoor kennel after all, and dogs smell after being outside. They have coverage from the sun for shade and misters, and there are houses to insulate if it's cold.

My two small dogs have stayed twice for several days. They were kept in the same kennel at our request and were well taken care of. We brought our own dog food that they were used to eating. Our dogs, naturally, were very happy to see us, healthy and suffered no ill effects from being boarded. Staff seemed very friendly and caring towards us and our pets. Will use again.

Cowen's is without a doubt the best boarding facility in Bakersfield. I have tried just about every facility at one time or another and Cowen's is the Best. They are so kind to the pets and the facility is so clean. They are also very reasonable and accommodating, I know this 1 st hand. I would recommend this facility 100%. One more reason to use cowen's is the staff, they are so polite and treat each fur baby as if they were their own. I'm very particular and they exceed every category for my pet. Thank you Cowen's, I appreciate the work and effort you put into the way you run your business.

Love this place for our pup. The staff is extremely friendly. Never have to worry when we have to bring our dog there. The prices are pretty great as well. This is always our first option in where our dog stays. The kennels are outdoors and he's happy with it, because he loves the outdoors.

This is our top choice for a kennel for our dog. They have great prices and they even can pamper your pet if your willing to pay a little extra. I think we choose this place over the other kennels around due to the open area your dog is placed in. You can bring your dogs food, beds and toys if wanted. They also have an ice cream social for your dogs around 2:00 pm daily. If you need a kennel for your animal call this place up and set up an appointment.

All I can say is that Cowen's pet resort, is an amazing place to leave you dog over night(s). The staff are so welcoming and sweet! I am that kind of person who thinks of their pets as my children, and I want nothing but the best for my dogs. All I can say is my dog was dropped off happy and when I picked him up he was still happy. Which was just wonderful! The prices are affortable and the staff was nothing but kind of enough to let me know how my dog was doing. I am glad my dog was well taken care of! (:

Great place to bring your dogs while you are out of town. The customer service is great and the prices are affordable. Give yourself the piece of mind knowing that your dog is in good hands while you are away.

The staff at Cowen's is very friendly and I trust them with my dog. They don't have hotel-like accommodations for animals but, guess what, pets ARE animals and not furry children. At Cowen's you'll find reasonable priced accommodations and your pet will be well cared for.

I really love this place. I trust them with my dogs completely. Although I've never had my dogs boarded anywhere else in Bakersfield, I have called around for prices and Cowen's is fair and reasonable. I feel like they know what they're doing and will care for my pets like family. The additional amenities like ice cream treats and walks is a nice touch.
