Dodge Grain was founded in 1926 in Methuen MA. We moved to Salem NH in the mid 50's to our current location. At Dodge Grain, you will find Equine, poultry, lawn & garden, tropical bird, wild bird, cat, dog, and small animal supplies as well as wood pellets, coal and other fuel. In addition, we are proud to provide traditional equine feed services and have had long standing partnerships with local show barns, and small equine facilities through out New England. We are known for our friendly, knowledgeable staff and one on one customer service.
Services
Dodge Grain offers an expansive selection of Equine (Horse) products and accessories. From dietary supplements to high-grade Canadian Timothy Hay, to bedding (shavings) and blanket cleaning & repair. Today we are still a vast leader in supplying our local equestrian centers, large & small backyard barns to the University of New Hampshire equestrian team, Boston Park Rangers, MA State Police & City of Worcester Mounted Patrol with nutritional guidance and impeccable service.
Although there are many types of bedding you can use in a standard stall, shavings are the most commonly used and some say the most comfortable for your horses! Aspen Bedding Shaving specially processed to eliminate dust and wood debris found in other bedding. Aspen bedding comes from hardwood, eliminating aromatic oils found in other types of wood bedding.
Horse and barn maintenance routines may differ slightly from owner to owner, but their supplies and needs are very much the same. Here at Dodge Grain we have all your basic needs to keep your barn clean and your horses happy.
Fixing and cleaning the blanket now will help extend its usable life, keep your horse comfortable all winter long, and save you a bundle of money. Go ahead and pull out that dirty, ripped blanket and bring it to us. One week turnaround makes it fast and easy. Process for drop off- Ask for blanket tag at register, fill out tag, rip off bottom of tag for your keep, clip tag to bag and leave at loading dock.

All things animal related. They have been around forever! I moved to NH in 91 and discovered them. They have great bird seed blends for whatever's in your back yard. Have chickens, ducks, dogs, horses? They have stuff to feed them, entertain them, if sick, cure them. Want to go raise your own chickens or ducks, see them. They now have various types of live chicks/ ducklings and can advise how to best raise them.

I'll be honest, I wish I had more land and lived in a non residential area and I would try raising chickens. Did a stint with 7 chickens in MA back in the, early 80's. Best eggs ever! Nice to step away from the big box stores

We have been going to Dodge Grain for over 30 years! A great family run business. Very knowledgeable on many topics. Kelly has been helping us with our horses nutritional questions for years and she's always spot on. We are grateful to have them as our grain and supplies dealer.

Dodge grain is a great place to get all your feed supplies. We bought chicks from here and they handle them well. Unfortunately, all chick deliveries are cancelled until further notice for the safety of everyone. I hope to see them come back to normal operation soon!

Only gave one star because zero stars wasn't an option. Done doing business here! For years, have bought wood pellets here without issue. If pellets were in short supply when I placed order, I was advised as much. When scheduling delivery, always came through as expected, or if delayed, always advised so that I wasn't left inconvenienced.

Until this year. When I placed order this year, never advised of any shortage, and this order was placed right after having visited store and seeing TONS of what I always order, on hand and overflowing in their parking lot. Expected agreed upon schedulef delivery on 10/18, after 11am. Called at noon that day to find out where we were in delivery queue, only to be informed, while we were still on the delivery list, that there was no delivery coming due to an ongoing supplier shortage. WHAT?!

No early indication of supplier shortage at time I placed order, and no call EVEN ON THE DAY OF DELIVERY (or, even more courteously, the day before) to say there was an issue, and I had to call to find that out?! But then, to add the insult to injury, when I requested delivery of another hardwood brand, I was told they wouldn't be able to deliver today, DESPITE HAVING ALREADY CONFIRMED I WAS ALREADY ON THE DELIVERY SCHEDULE.

Hell of a way to run a business. I'm getting outta Dodge. NOW RECOMMENDING Avedisian East, Methuen, MA who are able to accommodate my next day delivery request, and with adequate supply on hand. How a business SHOULD be run!

Only place i go for pellets and pet food. Super friendly, helpful team. Even if you only get a few bags of pellets they always help you load your car or truck. Delivery service is great too. Very reasonable prices as well!

Do I need to say more. Five stars says it all. Frank and his team are the best! I've been ordering horse products from Dodge Grain for several years now. They have the best hay. You may pay a bit more for their hay but their bales are large, heavy and last a long time. I have a horse who is a picky eater and loves the hay I get from Dodge grain.

My horse has allergies and can only eat grass hay. Frank makes sure my hay delivery is grass hay. Also, their delivery guys do a great job unloading and stacking the bales of hay in my barn. Their customer service is outstanding!

Free delivery but, the delivery people didn't follow location to leave fence material and it was previously called in and written on receipt by management! I called once I was told it was left in wrong spot and the lady said she would have them return to fix it but never did. I gave 3 stars and was generous. It was large fencing and awkward to move. This caused more work and stress - so don't think they will just do the right thing when making deliveries because they won't!

What a great local family owned business! We just bought 3 little ducklings a few weeks ago and they are growing and thriving. Most of my chickens were from here as well. We also get our food for our poultry, dogs, and guinea pigs here. And you can't beat their propane prices! And to the guy with the roosters. bring them back! I'm sure they will help you. No need to slam a great business.

Purchased six chicks at around end of February 2018 ( two Cornish, two Mille Fleur, two others I dont recall) and one of the Cornish and both Mille Fleurs are roosters. I was sold pullets. I can understand a 5% error rate (posted on their website), but 50%? Maybe someone forgot a "0" on the end of 5%. Buyer beware.

I've been a customer for 20 years. Through the years, the employees have helped me tremendously with their knowledge. Be it yard work, pet supplies or any other home needs, they're always there to help. Most recently, after my purchase of a home with a pellet stove, they've offered advice and a delivery that was super impressive to watch. Tyler and Louis were just as personable as the in house team! Thank you guys, I look forward to continuing doing business with you all.

This store has the worst costumer service. We have had 2 bad experiences here over the course of 2 years. Both with the store manager yelling at us and telling us we are wrong. I don't know how you keep customers if you yell at them. Do not go here! I would give them zero stars if I could!

Our family has been doing business with Dodge Grain since 1960. We have had horses of all types, and this family run business has been a wonderful resource. We were fairly local, and grain was always delivered on time, fresh and any problems or questions handled beautifully. Through the many years - the folks here have always been very helpful. We have since moved away, and it was hard to leave our grain store! We still return to get a few things whenever we are in town, and they always remember us :-

I just love this place for around 25 yrs now. We always order a good 3 tons pellets for our stove all winter. They deliver as planned and delivery is not expensive. They are so friendly, knowledgeable, "fun" people to be around. My friends get their little hen babies there, the timothy hay is wicked cheap and the best for animals like guinea pig, rabbits, hamsters.

In the rare instance when I had to return something, it's no hassle even w/o receipt. Protect your gardens with their fox or coyote urineand dried coyote/fox "poop!" and other products to keep a garden healthy. They can tell you exactly how to use it. I don't know what I'd do without this wonderful, less than 10 miles place to shop for exactly what we and our pets often need.

Staff is friendly and knowledgeable in pretty much everything you can think of (lawn management, vegetable gardening, livestock, trapping 'coons, etc.) I particularly enjoy the live poultry. They carry pretty much everything (chickens, pheasants, turkeys, quail, guineas, ducks, geese). They have many fine quality products and have the best prices in natural gas tanks (plus refills too) and can help with other seasonal needs (firewood, mulch, etc.) Pretty impressive!

Salem's oldest pet business has survived the years with great customer service and expanding their services beyond pet supplies to equine and bird care, gardening supplies, rodent and pest control, heating and canning supplies. A grade A local business to support over the big companies.

I have 3 little peeping day old chicks in my bathtub, cheeping away, thanks to Jim at Dodge Grain. I stopped in a few weeks ago when I found out they were getting the breed in that I've been searching high and low for. Jim told me everything I needed to know, showed me around, helped me get the minimum of supplies that I would need (waterer, feeder, heat lamp), and said I could pick up the feed and shavings when I pick up the chickies! So I did! Walked in on the pre-designated day, got 3 healthy peepers, spent all afternoon thanking my lucky stars.

This place is the best! My wife and I have been buying out pet supplies here for about 5 years, and we haven't found a better price anywhere else. They sell very high end foods and lots of natural treats that our dogs love. The people there are top notch when it comes to customer service, and they always give our dogs lots of love when they are with us. It doesn't get any better than Dodge Grain.now if I can just convince my wife to get some chickens. :

First and foremost, I will say that Dodge Grain "Supports Our Troops" by giving a military discount -- HUGE POINTS! Here in New England there is not so much of a military presence as in other states and it is pretty uncommon to find places around that give military discounts (not even some national chain movie theatres here). Every person I have met there is awesome.

They must have Prozac in their water supply b/c they are all so helpful and cheery. They have a lot of combined knowledge and I have yet to walk away from there unsatisfied or without an answer to my questions. The guys at the loading docks are very prompt and courteous, always offering to load my order. Some of these guys are strong as an ox, carrying two 50 lb bags of feed on one shoulder! It is just a pleasure to go to Dodge and shop around.

Saw a guy stuffing chickens in a box today. So cool! One got out and was running around the store. Yep. The chicken's and chicks are in and people are buying them up for backyard farms. I got some seeds and lilly bulbs, seeds, and bag balm.

I found another great place to buy Jack's dog food! They carry Taste of the Wild! I ended up buying the 30 lb bag since Jack loves the High Praire sort. They carry so many other high quality pet foods as well. They sell all sorts of farm birds (quail, chickens, etc) and I honestly mistaken them from a distance for a bunch of hamsters feeding on food. but it was the little chickies feeding with their heads chirping away. HAHA!

I will have to go back here to go and peruse more to see other things they sell with supplies etc. The employee who checked my items out helped me carry the bag to my car. great good ol' fashion service! :) Very nice and personable people here! Definitely will be coming back!
