At DDO we use a scientific, evidence based method of training that is Cooperative, Effective and Fun! We practice force-free, fear-free training offering clients several different ways to work with their dogs all of which involve gentle, kind and fair techniques. We teach students using "mark & reward" training that can involve the use of a clicker, or a verbal marker if the client is not comfortable using a clicker. We do not use leash "corrections" and shock collars, choke chains and pinch/prong collars are never used.
Our private dog training programs specialize in behavior modification, problem solving and positive guidance for dogs of all ages. At Dog's Day Out we help you train your dog with one-on-one guidance by using science based, positive reinforcement dog training methods that involve force-free and fear free techniques for your pup.
What is a "reactive" dog? Reactive dogs are dogs who are displaying certain behaviors when in the presence of their triggers. These behaviors may include: barking, lunging, pulling, whining and the inability to engage with their human handler in that moment. Triggers may be dogs, people, squirrels, bikes, skateboards.
In our K9 Nosework series we will introduce you to this new sport and literally watch your dog follow his nose to success! You will be amazed at how excited your dog is to search for his favorite toy, food and the three scents used in K9 Nosework competitions. Scent work has become increasingly popular because every dog has a nose (that smells about 4000X greater than ours)!

Love this place. We got basic training here, and our dog has never had a bad day here in over six months, twice a week. Great job curating the dogs in each session to get a good mix of friendly beasts.

Enrolled my reactive dog in a training class here - the instructor was very helpful and communicative. My only suggestion is that the reservation/class reminder system could be better.

Danette is amazing; she gives practical, science-based guidance. We went to her for reactive training. Highly recommend and grateful.

We enrolled our 3 yo dog in Danette's Reactive Rehab and have been very appreciative of the practice it affords her (in a controlled environment) with both people and dogs. Danette has been patient and thoughtful throughout all of the lessons, and has always encouraged us to work at our dog's pace. With a reactive dog there is no "quick fix" so it's wonderful to find someone who you know will support you through the process (and delight in your achievements, no matter how small).

We just completed a six-week reactive dog training course with Danette. I'm so glad we signed up! Danette is an incredible teacher for both dogs and their humans. My dog was always eager to go to class, and the improvements she made over the past month and a half surpass all our previous training efforts. We can't wait to go to drop-in days and future classes!

I was hesitant to join any class during the COVID-19 pandemic, but social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizer were all handled so well during this outdoor course that I never felt at risk during our lessons. I only regret not taking this course even earlier and that I couldn't give Danette a hug on graduation day for the enormous improvement she's made in our lives! Thank you, Danette! - Holly, Will, and Ladybird

Great people and worked with us through training a puppy during Covid times. Puppy play class always wore our pup out and when she was old enough to do training the positive reinforcement instruction was great. It may have been Covid and the adjustments, but some of the class was a little awkward. There were some times I felt there was talking for too long where I couldn't pay attention and work with my crazy puppy. Overall I would recommend them and Danette is very responsive and helpful.

This isn't just training your dog, it's also training you to train your dog. They show us how to use enthusiasm and generosity to motivate dogs to behave. Over the course of several weeks dogs of various breeds and backgrounds have shown remarkable improvement. Especially when their people have been doing the homework.

We brought our dog Goose here for leash-reactive training. I highly recommend this course or any other course of Danette's. She's absolutely amazing and understands not only dog behavior, but also dog owner behavior (a lot of the learning was for us). The most important piece for us was really resetting our mindset of what are "fun" activities for Goose. We still have a long road ahead, but he's shown significant improvement since and we feel like we have all the right tools to get Goose to where he needs to be.

Danette is kind, supportive and knowledgeable on ways to help you communicate better with your dog and for you to learn ways that your dog is trying to communicate with you. She has helped us a lot with our reactive and protective shelter dog. We are very grateful for Danette!
