Services
The mission of HSCC is to promote animal welfare in our community by providing shelter and compassionate care to homeless companion animals while leading our region in low-cost spay/neuter initiatives, education on the humane treatment of animals, and adoption services. Our vision for the future is that no adoptable animal will be euthanized in Catawba County, and overpopulation, cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals will cease to exist. Our beautiful facility features the Pat Anderson Center for Animal Adoption and Humane Education Center as well as Foothills Spay/Neuter Clinic.
The HSCC "Employ-A-Cat" program helps under-socialized felines, aka feral or community cats, find loving homes where they can earn their keep. These cats may be timid around humans but would make a terrific friend for a horse or goat. When you employ a cat from HSCC you are saving the life of a feline who cannot be adopted into a traditional home. It is important to realize that your new employee may or may not allow human contact.
If there is an animal you are interested in meeting, fill out the adoption application on the website. You may note which pet(s) you are interested in adopting or leave the field blank. Please understand adoptions are on a first-come basis. If you are undecided a staff member will help you find a pet that fits your lifestyle.
The decision to spay/neuter your pet is an important part of responsible pet ownership. Sterilized pets live longer, happier, and healthier lives and cannot add to the pet overpopulation problems that exist in our community. Did you know each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born? As a result, millions of healthy, loving cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies face early deaths as a form of animal control. Others are abandoned and left to fend for themselves against automobiles, the elements, other animals, and cruel humans.

I adopted a pet from the humane society on a Saturday. The process was smooth and took roughly an hour. I had questioned if the animal had been treated for fleas and the answer was yes. We were told the animal we had chosen was "finicky". So we sat and played with him for roughly 45 mins and decided that we wanted him. Paperwork completed and we were on our way home.

We get home and he acclimates to our home nicely. He required lots of reassurance (typical for a rescue). During a petting he out of nowhere attacked myself and my husband, biting us both repeatedly. Long story short, they shouldn't have adopted out an animal with such aggression problems and I found out that he did have fleas. Better vetting could be done on their animals.

Got my cat fixed here last week - my other cat had bit her so they called and asked if I wanted to get her a shot to prevent infection. Incision looks great and cat seems no worse for wear. Also got my dog here, and he is the greatest Australian Shepherd to ever exist. Ten thumbs up.

Awesome facility. Absolutely AMAZING staff, including WONDERFUL volunteers - these are all truly compassionate people who are working HARD for needy animals, both in the shelter & in the community. I cannot express my immense gratitude for ALL that they do. We recently took my 3 (weirdo) dogs to the vaccine clinic for updates & heartworm tests/prevention.

They offer services, vaccines, & prevention at incredibly discounted rates - I would dare to say impossible to find better rates in the area. They truly want to help people care for their pets. They treated my dogs quickly & efficiently, as if they were their own pets - even though it was sweltering hot outside (curbside), they're almost certainly short staffed, and my dogs undoubtedly acted like idiots. Olivia was especially kind & helpful during our visit, making sure to explain everything thoroughly and answer any questions. PLEASE consider adopting from this wonderful shelter & PLEASE get your dogs tested for heartworms! Edit: Due solely to my poor planning as a pet parent, I ended up having to make another visit to get Bordetella vaccines for 2 of my dogs as they were scheduled for an upcoming trip to the groomer.

I know my 2 tiny, bratty dogs are NOT fun patients, so I hated to ask the staff to deal with them for the second week in a row. However, Olivia & Christopher were SO VERY AMAZING (yet again!) and made the trip SO easy & fast for us, handling both of my dumb dogs SO very well, with utmost patience & compassion - I couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you guys!

When I was younger my got me a Himalayan cat named Koi from the Humane Society and she was so sweet. They do a great job at taking care of the animals there. I'm currently look for an orange kitten at the moment. :

This is the absolute worst humane society I have ever been to, or seen in my life. The hoops I had to jump through to even get an appointment to look at a puppy is ridiculous. Now after getting my puppy we had to come back for one shot scheduled at 3pm but the have one vet tech and scheduled 5 others for the same time. Can you say unprofessional and I considerate because now I'm going to be sitting here for over an hour when I had a set appointment. go to the charlotte humane society they are so much better:

Cheddar is a fan of the team at humane society! Seems like he never wants to come back home with me when we go to get his shots! He loves his toy car!

We had to surrender our dog that was 2 years old because we live in an apartment complex and we got wrote up because he barked while we were gone. The neighbors complained. They took him in and we found a new home me him and he was only there a few days. Really nice place and people.

Adopted a wonderful fur baby. The process was quick and easy. He's been adjusting well and is lovable. He's an older dog but super sweet. More people should adopt older dogs and give them the quality of life they deserve.

This is exactly what animal owners need! A place like Catawba county Human Society to keep animals healthy. Reasonable prices to have your animals fixed and your dog/cat is able to come home that night. I'm also able to treat Naya my black Lab for fleas every 3 months for $45. I was paying that a month for just my dog at a vet office on Startown rd.

The staff is friendly and help. They are always so nice and make sure I have all the information I need when caring for my animals after their surgery. I have nothing but respect for the volunteers that give their time to make sure animals are well taken care of and have a good home & a loving family. Taking care of you cat or dogs health should not be so over priced the way it is.

That's why I highly recommend taking your animals to HSCC for vaccines, teeth care, nail trims, flea treatment and being fixed. We can fix the problem of homeless, starving and abused animals. We just need to support, donate and continue to use the services that Human Society of Catawba County offers us and our fur babies!
