Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. Regular checkups are the most valuable tool we have in keeping your pet healthy. We recommend annual exams and annual bloodwork for dogs and cats over 7 years old.
Here are some questions/answers that we are frequently asked. If you have additional questions that aren't covered here, please feel free to give us a call at Pacifica Pet Hospital. 1. What are the Hospital hours? Yes, patients are seen by appointment, except in the case of emergency. If you have an emergency, it is best to call ahead to let us know you are coming, IF POSSIBLE.
EMERGENCIES: For emergencies, we advise that you contact the pet emergency centers shown below. You can also call our main number (650) 359-3685 during office hours and we can give you numbers for these emergency clinics.
Many people have questions about various aspects of their pet's surgery, and we hope this information will help. It also explains the decisions you will need to make before your pet's upcoming surgery. Is the anesthetic safe? Today's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past.

I have a 20-year-old cat. I have been coming to Pacifica Pet Hospital for many years - this review is long overdue. This facility is really great. Having taken her to other facilities over the years, by comparison as an owner you can tell that the team is caring and really responsive. I want to especially shout out the vet tech, Karla. She is truly a wonderful caregiver.

My elderly cat (who suffers from kidney disease and a heart murmur) needed eye removal (enucleation) due to a scratch that developed into a painful bacterial infection. With my cat's underlying health conditions and age, going under anesthesia is always a risk. Karla compassionately received my cat and carefully explained the procedure. She reassured me and kept me updated every step of the way.

She really went above and beyond to support both my cat and I and we are both so grateful. My cat is on day one of recovery from the procedure and in my arms resting as I write this.

Our friend recommended Pacifica Pet Hospital as a great vet to begin our new rescue's healthcare. The new patient sign up process was easy, along with providing historical medical records. Though our visit was simple (with no major diagnosis); I appreciated the front desk team and Dr. Randle's patience throughout our many new pet owner questions.

I had anticipated surgery for our little guy's knee (luxating patella), but it turns out he doesn't need it now (though possible in the future). I appreciate Dr. Randle's transparency about the possibility of knee surgery (whew! not needed for a while!). The entire visit was easy and seamless. Though this review is only for a wellness check and general questions, I felt I had to write it because some of the neg reviews seemed to happen mostly during the pandemic (pls be kind and patient folks, it's already tough enough for everyone).

Their office is still observing COVID-safety protocols, so you park outside at a number and they take your fur-baby inside. It's not what we preferred, but totally understandable for everyone's health and safety. I'm glad our friend referred us here. it was tough enough reading through Yelp reviews of many places (and some had no space for new patients). It was refreshing to find a good vet to rely on! Thx!

It's a good hospital. The only and main complaint I've had for many yrs is its location and the parking lot. Too close to Hwy 1.

I've been taking my dog here for almost 7 years and I love all of the staff here, from the super hardworking receptionists to the awesome vet techs, and very helpful vets! I'm very pleased with Dr Choi and this practice. I really like the appointment arrival system that was implemented since the beginning of COVID, makes everything really easy in terms of the curbside service.

I do have pet insurance for my dog as she's got a number of health issues, and the office is always very responsive when I need to request copies of diagnoses or invoices to submit for reimbursement. I do highly recommend this place, the only watch out is that sometimes it may take a couple of weeks or a longer to get an appointment. Must be all of those new pandemic pet adoptions! :

A disaster! This is part due to not being able to be with your pet when being examined. But all the more important to show what the vet thinks is wrong vs. telling you in medical terms. I'm not stupid, but I'm slow to react when confused or shocked. So when I brought my 5 y.o. dog in for the second time to find out why she continues to raise her head to the sky stretching her neck, Dr. Choi reported it was her spine.

Now there is a large oval soft tissue in front of her neck that fluctuates smaller than larger and was new starting a few months ago, and that is what I wanted checked. Instead he said she flinched when he squeezed the back of her neck. (I would, too!) So he supplied her 2 meds - a pain med for arthritis in 'old' dogs at $60, and an anti-Inflamatory for muscle spasms $45.

A blood test also for over $200 which came back all normal. My dog is 5 years old, sprite and playful, never exhibits pain and does not have spasms. I called and said I thought there was a misdiagnosis for her stretching behavior and also wondered if I could return the unused meds. He of course said no that it was illegal, but then he added - in email- to never return there for veterinary services.

If I didn't trust his advice, then. Wow. Like vets don't make mistakes? Like shouldn't vets ask more questions about the dog from the owner who lives with the pet vs 15 mins with your pet on a table without owner present?! You bet I'm not returning there for services. And you shouldn't either! This megalomaniac vet is spiteful and insecure.

That is not someone to trust your pet with. Too bas cuz the office staff are wonderful. The other vet seems good tho not overly concerned with the stretching behavior. She asked for a video of it. I sent it. And never heard back. I want my money back! Wish me luck! And I need to find a thorough vet who isn't trying to take all your money. Suggestions welcomed!

Used to be a fantastic vet before covid. Now they barely can manage scheduling appointments with most appointments taking up to 2-3 weeks to schedule. Their automatic reply if you try to come drop in out of their 2-3 week scheduling window is to go to an emergency vet like "Blue Pearl" which ends up costing you thousands of dollars. I'm sure whoever reads this review will blame covid as it seems to be an easy response for poorly managed businesses. We will be looking for a new vet.

I'm sorry to hear of such bad reviews for PPH. But my experience has always been wonderful and will continue taking all animals to Dr. Choi. Dr Choi has always treated them with love and care and his diagnosis has always been spot on. From cancer of my Rottie to finding digestive issues with my Frenchie. She is now on a special diet and is doing amazing. I'm sorry but no vet hospital is cheap! But I give this hospital five stars they do a wonderful job and take great care of all my fur babies. Also, Mary at the front counter is awesome!

Do not bring ur pet here, they will take ur money for nothing to get done. my dog tore her acl and all they did was five pain meds. when she needed a splint or knee brace of some sort. after 2 weeks she couldn't walk at all what so ever. front desk is very unprofessional and are excellent at avoiding questions.

This place is absolutely wonderful. LOVE the doctors and the staff. They not only try their best to accommodate us with emergencies but have great follow up and very responsive. Dr. Choi has been seeing our dog now and we adore him. I'm not sure if we have the opportunity of seeing Dr. Randle yet but we know our dog will be in great hands. The staff is pleasant, responsible, compassionate and so great in responding to our never-ending questions. Highly recommend this place for your loving fur babies.

My dog died five days after her spay due to complications post surgery. Necropsy stating internal incisions were not properly sutured resulting in internal bleeding. Stay away. I met two other people who had very similar situation within months of my little girl passing. One dog died and one lived after rushing to emergency room right after spay

This is the only Veterinary Clinic / Hospital I have had any history with. Myself and my family have always had the best, the most professional and the most helpful of exemplary service and rapport with all of the Doctors, nurses and entire staff at Pacifica Pet Hospital. We sadly lost our 10 year old beautiful Bernese Mountain dog a few short days ago, however up until her last breath, our pet and precious pal was treated with top notch care, kindness and quality veterinary expertise and best judgment always. Dr Trief was our main doctor and she was exceptionally great. Dr Trief helped keep our four legged best friend healthy, happy and enduring well for 10 plus years.

Our dog did have some health issues but Dr Trief's diagnosis, plans and suggested treatment I believe helped keep our dog in as good a quality of life standing as we ever could have asked for. I only have the most positive things to say about Dr Trief. Although we now miss our dog very much, I am sincerely grateful for all Dr Trief and everyone at Pacifica Pet Hospital did for our dog and by extension and virtue of that kindness, my family too. Thank you wholeheartedly. We will not forget your kindness to Tonto, ever. Stay well.

Do Not Depend on this Hospital for a Pet Emergency. on September 29,2021, we were out of country and left our Jack Russell Terrier in the care of our trusted sitter. On above stated morning our pet developed respiratory distress. Sitter calls this hospital, asked to send video and monitor. Later that morning no call back from hospital. took upon ourselves to call hospital from abroad, told by Molly, Vet has not reviewed video yet. will walk it back to Vet, and give call back.

Later that afternoon, sitter sent pic to this hospital of pets reddened abdomen. told at this time to bring to nearest emergency.that evening our pet had to be put asleep. today October 3. yet to receive call from Vets office.

Please DO NOT take your pet to this hospital. Summary of my story- They left me a voicemail recommending I euthanize my cat who was not dying at all! Longer version: I adopted a kitten October 2020 and brought her in to see Dr. Choi for her checkup and shots. The first visit went fine but on her 2nd, they gave her a bunch of unnecessary shots because they had not made any copies of the records I'd given them from the adoption agency.

Then in February 2021, she started acting overly thirsty, lethargic, and had a weird walk, so I took her back to see Dr. Choi. We did xrays and nothing showed up so he put her on antibiotics and steroids to see if it helped with her symptoms. He asked me to call and let him know about her progress. A few weeks later, I called to report that she wasn't really doing better and asked the receptionist to pass on the message to Dr. Choi and ask him to call me back.

He called and left me a voicemail on March 8, 20021, the most important excerpt of which I will quote here (I still have the voicemail saved in case anyone ever challenges me): "My big concern is she actually might have either a congenital leukopenia virus infection or feline infectious peritonitis infection. These 2 can be pretty difficult to treat and most likely impossible to treat.

And especially if her condition is not improving, is getting worse, we might need to, unfortunately, and it's a very very terrible thing to say, especially at her age, unfortunately, we might need to consider humane euthanasia. Because both possible conditions that she might have- there's no reliable treatment option available. They just get worse. It's not fair to them and to her.

And with her current condition situation, unfortunately, I don't have any good treatment option available for her. And based on the nature of this condition, I would definitely advise humane euthanasia." So after hearing this horrible voicemail, I break down crying and call my friends who tell me to go and get a 2nd opinion and I'm so glad I did!

I took my cat to a neurologist at North Peninsula Veterinary then to Dr. Glahn at Coastal Cat Clinic. Thousands of dollars worth of tests later, it turns out she is a perfectly healthy cat and just has some allergies! Easily treated by allergy medicine and dietary food. I have no idea why Dr. Choi would recommend such extreme measures without first calling to hear about her progress or offering to at least do bloodwork to rule out other possibilities. And to tell me to euthanize my cat via A VOICEMAIL is simply unprofessional. If you want great treatment for your cat, DO NOT go to Dr. Choi!

We live in San Francisco and a friend once told us that if she had a car, that was where she'd take her pup. We've been with them since 2005. All three dogs have been patients there and we've continued to refer others there as well. Grateful for their practice.

I can not be more sincere when I say these guys are the best! Their prices make it easier for quality care for your pet because they love animals and what they do. The staff are angels. The office is efficient meaning quick and organized. We found them after making calls after calls for a procedure for our Layla and it was so upsetting to see her suffering.

Our first call was aspca and to our surprise they were expensive. But thank goodness Our final call to Pacifica Pet Hospital was such a relief! They were affordable and could help us immediately! Days of worry and several years were finally done, thanks to Dr. Randall! 10 years later we're still with them

Would NOT recommend- Bad experience after bad experience- 1- Called with a pet emergency- receptionist advised to call back in 3 days when a doctor would be free? 2- Took our dog in for last round of vaccinations- came back a month later for a pre-spay check up and they advised that they didn't write down the vaccination history correctly and/or didn't charge us for all vaccinations- so have no idea if they indeed gave our dog the write vaccine? 3- Our dog had a mass on her head- Both doctors reviewed- NO guesses- no insights- no help at all 4- We ended up switching vets!

Which was a must!- Had the masses removed from her head- trying to submit medical history to our pet insurance company- our insurance company called 3 times and I have called twice- Pacific Pet Hospital has still NOT forwarded our dog's medical history (which was only 3 months with them- since their service was so awful)- completely unacceptable to not have the capabilities of generating our dog's medical file to our insurance company. DO NOT use this vet for any reasons! Numerous other vets on the Coast to choose from. DO NOT TRUST or Recommend this Vet!

I've been coming to PPH for over a decade now, with two different rescues. The best part of this hospital is Mary. Mostly we come for nail trims and annual exams, we have been lucky in that respect. Until last Thursday, I got a phone call that my mid-size dog had ingested 60 pieces of sugar free gum, (the ingredient xylitol found in sugar free gum is highly toxic to dogs, especially in that large quantity).

I was as work and completely panicked, my Son was home alone with the dog and no transportation panicking also. I called my longtime Veterinarians Office, PPH, and explained to the girl that answered the phone that I had an emergency, my dog just essentially ate poison.there was dead silence on the other end, I said hello? She says I have no openings today and I should check with another Vet in my area. Period.

That was the extent of the conversation. This was a Thursday morning, why would I call another Vet? There was zero concern, zero compassion, no accommodations for an emergency? I was shocked, but I couldn't worry about the poor treatment at that moment as it was an emergency. I called another Vet in the area, that has never seen my dog and although they only had one Dr. working with back to back office visits, the young woman that answered my call, showed great concern and empathy for my situation.

She gave me the phone number to Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital and the address and wished us well. Fast forward to thankfully picking up my dog the next day who is going to be fine after an overnight visit. I am grateful to Blue Pearl for everything they did to help my dog. After I had time to take it all in and appreciate my dog being home and safe, I began thinking about the treatment I received from PPH.

I definitely say if nothing else the front end staff needs some training in handling emergency calls. Show some care, offer up a solution (as the other Vet did). Just basically be a human being about the situation, remember that pet owners consider their pets to be like family and things like this are stressful. So when a longtime patient calls with an emergency, show a little compassion, not dead silence on the call. Poor.

Good for routine vaccines and checks. When our pet became quite ill they made it sound like an inconvenience to get him seen and then were unable to figure out what was wrong and weren't able to look into it more or perhaps were simply too busy to care. Our pet did pass away later that day after we finally found a vet elsewhere who could help us, but it was just too late by that point.

This place is just extremely professional and amazing. I started bringing my Labrador back in March 2020 when I first got him. In the mist of all the craziness going on they helped us out a lot. We've had a few scares with our Labrador and they've been there every step of the way. I couldn't be more thankful for everything they do for us. This place is extremely friendly, clean, covid friendly. Absolutely love it.

I'll give them 2 stars because they do have great vets. Dr Choi is a great vet! I just wish he was more there for my dog I feel as if he doesn't really care about them. It's a horrible feeling because that's their doctor, not saying he's a bad one. He's just not the one for us. I mean my dog had only been to him a couple times for back problems, spaying, and exam visits.

I understand he's busy but he takes forever to call you back! He told me once my dog had a back Problem that was hereditary and due to covid I feel like they all kinda rush their visits. I got no info on the "medical condition" he just threw me words I had to research when I got home (which made me more scared because google is NOT a vet! ) and told me "he would email me the diagnostic and more information" and never did!

I had to basically beg for info because I was so scared! It was like 5 days later too! A nice lady vet told me everything I needed to know. Fast forward to now still pandemic I get it, but I feel like they can still do better by their costumer's/ clients. Tried to call for my new puppy to get some info. I never got a call back. It's been about a week now.

Little do they know I'm a huge part of Pacifica's dog community! We could of been a great asset to each other if they just gave me a chance at a long lasting relationship and comfort in my vet. All I want is for a good vet that cares about my animals, and I'm not saying they don't I'm 100% sure they do care for animals, but I need to personally feel like they care about mine, and unfortunately I don't. I was really hoping I would find that in them.

Hi I just want to let everyone know that I had an apointment for my dogs and I called to let them know I wasn't going to make it and they still went ahead and charge me for not showing up for the apointment I am so disappointed that they did this. I spoke to the lady that works there and al she had to say was if the dogs get sick is not our problem. Wow this goes to show me that they only care about the money not the pets. Please read before you go there not good customer service and all the want is money. So disappointed

If I could give a worse review I would. Pacifica Pet Hospital is the single most unprofessional, scammy vet you can imagine. From failing to update my pets paperwork each time I came in for vaccines, to doctors giving contradictory diagnoses without seeing my healthy dog, to having basic stool sample results sit on their end for 2 weeks before having the decency to call me back, to refusing to treat my puppy for simple constipation.

This place is a racket masquerading as a "pet hospital." I wouldn't bring my puppy back here even if no one else was available and there were apocalyptic skies, unhealthy air quality and a pandemic. O wait. Edit: interestingly enough I took the same stool sample into 2 vets (the first is the aforementioned Pacifica Pet "Hospital"). Somehow the results differed drastically.

Whereas Pacifica Pet "Hospital" claimed my puppy had Giardia and required medication, the second vet declared my puppy negative for Giardia and other common gut parasites. I'm sure Pacifica Pet "Hospital" would have loved for me to pay for them to medicate and treat my healthy dog.

Was so great to go to the pet hospital during the COVID-19 crisis when our dog was sick and have them come out and meet us in the parking lot to get our dog, take him inside, examine him, and bring him back out to talk to us about what was going on. We all felt so safe and taken care of!

I went to Redwood Veterinary Hospital in vallejo for my dogs mauling accident. what a garbage facility that's out for your money! Needless to say. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! The team at PPH is awesome, accommodating and very easy to talk to. Explained everything that was going to be done after that vet in vallejo botched my poor dog! She looks amazing now, she doesn't look like she's in pain anymore and she doesn't look like there's any infection going on anymore. Dr. Randall was the doctor on the case and I'm so grateful for his work! Nala was very content that she was placed completely under and so was I! She was happy as can be to see me and idc if I live in Sacramento, PPH is my go to from here on out! Thank you guys so much me and Nala love y'all!

I know I've given a 5 star Yelp before. I'm happy to do it again since I don't see it. Dr Randall has been trusted by our family to care for my dogs since he has been at Pacific Pet Hospital. I've been a client there for 27 years. He cares about our pets. He gives solutions even when it seems there aren't any. What I'm trying to say is we are just crazy about him and would never consider going anywhere else.

We make the treck from SF now but he is well worth it. Thank you Dr.! And to Mary, you have seen us through our last dog and now 10 years in to our new boys. I'll never forget you putting flowers on our car when it was time for our last baby to go to doggy heaven. Thank you for always being so sweet. I always look forward to seeing you.
