They often say "it takes a village" in reference to raising a child but I think the same goes for. We want to find permanent and loving homes for the animals we receive. We work with you to select a pet that matches your personality and lifestyle, and provide you with the resources you need to keep everyone happy. The more eyes you have looking, the better. When your pet is missing, contact us immediately. Then, begin by canvassing your neighborhood - getting friends and family to trace the paths most familiar to your pet.

At HSMC, we work to build better communities for animal and human alike - we do so by working to prevent cruelty to animals with the help of businesses and community organizations, including the Juvenile Detention Center and the Women's Community. We work to raise awareness about the link between animal abuse and other forms of violence in order to prevent abuse in any form.
There's no denying that many people in this nation treat pets as disposable items. And there's no denying that abuse - of animals or humans - breeds abuse. You have the power to help change all that. Your donation not only saves animals that have been abandoned or abused, but it also helps us foster community outreach programs aimed at greater social responsibility for all living things.
There are plenty of things we ask you to consider first, for one simple reason - we want to find permanent and loving homes for the animals we receive. So while we'll ask you questions, it's all for a greater good - ensuring quality of life for both you and your pet. We'll work with you to select a pet that matches your personality and lifestyle and provide you with the resources you need to keep everyone happy.
Make a match that's best for you and your family - in three simple steps. While we have streamlined the adoption process for your convenience, we also ask that you do not rush the adoption process. We take this responsibility very seriously and do reserve the right to refuse any application for adoption if we determine the placement is not in the best interest of the pet.

Fingers crossed our first ever adoption goes through and we become new parents to a sweetheart. Very clean and staff is wonderful.

We couldn't ask for a better experience. The building was clean, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Everything about the adoption process was quick and painless.

I had picked out a cat at the humane society and left to do some stuff while they processed my paperwork and when i came back to pick up the cat I was adopting they had told me that the cat had gone to a foster home. It was maybe an hour from when I filled out the paperwork and came back and just like that they sent the cat off to a foster home instead of a forever home.

Since then I do not associate with the humane society if I don't have to. Everyone I know has had bad experiences with them and they charge way too much for a pet and the process is as if you are adopting a child. I understand they want the animals to go to good homes, but they can do a regular background check on someone and use that like most humane societies.

I'm just very disappointed in how the shelter is run here. I wish they'd consider using some other humane society practices for adopting pets to find them homes and not have so many in the shelter. It's really sad to see.

The staff and volunteers keep this facility clean and running smoothly, though wait times to talk to staff may be long during busy hours. The Marathon Humane center does check your references and background to protect the pets. I would highly recommend adopting here.

I would give a 0 if I could, my dog was abused and mistreated when he had to stay there for 10 days in quarantine for 10 days, when he was picked up his eyes were blood shot and his eyes were ripped he also had scars in his nose and his ribs were showing. Will be writing a complaint and taking further action.

I liked that we had made an appointment which insured it would be fairly quiet while trying to arrange for a possible adoption. Everyone was so helpful and patiently answered all our questions. They were upfront about the personality traits of the dogs that we were interested in. We have found them to care for the animals with respect and compassion.

It was a wonderful experience for us and we ended up adopting a dog that was not our initial choice, only to find one that was a "good fit" for us. Thank you for a wonderful experience in helping us to adopt "DayDay". We love her already!

Every time we go to the Humane Society its always a fun experience. They care about the animals as well as the families or people coming to look at them. We will be adopting our second dog from them next week and giving him his furever home. We can't wait. They make sure that whichever animal you choose is a good fit for your family and do a great job at pairing families with their new animals. I would recommend them every time.

They do a great job here everyone is so kind! I've adopted a couple times from them first a cat many years ago then 5 years ago we got our cockatiels Ducky and Gibbs & just recently we welcomed 3 wonderful Zebra finches into our home as well. They sing & talk back & forth across the room with the cockatiels which is so funny. We love it! They've helped when I came across a lost dog & when we lost ours. They've reunited both!
