Welcome to Monster Pets: racist, they hire children to look after exotics in poor conditions, and overprice their products compared to other stores. I have had THREE pets die from here. Three. We have excellent reviews from vets, take excellent care, but these people are mentally sick. You spend a dollar here? You're likely to buy an animal that's already sick or will die.

Like mine did. One of my female rats turned out to be pregnant without warning. The rats are all kept in poor conditions as feeders too. The reptiles are ALL in the worse conditions possible. AVOID THIS PLACE. Animal rights groups will be coming through soon. Trust me. They're barely hanging on. You know it's bad when even the employees tell you that the manager lied about the cause of death of your baby pinky you let them nurse because the rat they sold you died giving birth too young.

I have vet bills up up to debt. I can't wait for PETA to shut them and their shell companies down. I am traumatized from this place. Beware their NJ stores too. My organization is already branching out to investigate. If you want a reptile go to Jays Exotics or IllExotics. You'll see the difference. It's remarkable. They're true professionals.

These people are inhuman. They treat their pets like $1 toys. If you've read the previous reviews, one person said their ex bought a bird that died 4 days later. That shows you. Reptiles need tropical environments based on their species. You won't find that here. What you find are sick animals suffering from the hands of the owners and don't trust the positive reviews.

The owner probably has their own employees writing 5 star reviews. It's not uncommon. Don't be fooled be these people. They're only going to leave you with a burden of vet bills, racist comments, and trauma. Sick.

Monsters. What they should be called. That's the condition the owners leave their animals in. After spending over $2-3,000 over the course of 2-3 years from pet supplies to overpriced and questionable imported lizard these people DO NOT CARE about the conditions. If you're serious about getting an animal, ESPECIALLY lizards, DO NOT GIVE THEM A SINGLE CENT.

Go to IllExotics or Jays Exoctics. Monster Pets has a horrible reputation. They have no clue how to care for their animals and it shows in the photos below. I am sickened and can't wait for every animal rights group including PETA to investigate because they already had to shut down their dogs being sold from puppy mills. And yes. This owner is associated with someone from the proud boys.

The racism is no joke. It's disgusting. We've lost 3 pets from this store as babies which tells you a lot. They sent my friend home with a pregnant sick rat who died then took monster pets acted like they cared and took in their pinky that survived, promised to call, but never did report the death. The monitor my friend had was being fed strip steak as a baby which is so incorrect and way before my friend bought them.

If you look at the conditions you'll notice brown spots on the nose -- most likely rot. The tropical lizards aren't even being keep in the proper conditions. No humidity, most of them are in the wrong substrate which can further their health issues and cause obstruction in the stomach. Their were no temperature gauges in many of the tanks.

The animals are down right depressed and when you purchase from them you get a single 7 day return. It's not like IllExcotics or Jays where their entire set up has misting for their babies, they check to make sure each animal is going to a proper home. Why else do you think guys are going into the store with a duffel bag of lizards trying to sell them to a little girl. Creepy.

No security. Everything is overpriced by 30% compared to other stores. The manager makes it makes it impossible to reach the owner SUSAN for a reason. When you buy from monster pets your putting money in the hands of animal liability, you're most likely buying sick animals like my friend and her partner did which results in so much trauma, vet bills, and most likely death of a pet and if they try to take this down?

Guess what? Prepare to be investigated. There's more about the owners than you know. My opinion? They traffic their animals. Don't believe me? See the conditions here, the horrible customer service and then go to IllExotics or Jays Exotics. This place is doomed to be shut down.

As someone who got into fish keeping as a quarantine hobby, and stuck with it, this store is amazing. I have gone to stores over the Tri-state area, and it is wonderful that my favorite store for aquascaping supplies and livestock is just a few blocks away. If you are looking for a Fluval tank, their prices can't be beat. I have two flex tanks and they are amazing. Also, they have an amazing selection of cat supplies as well.

This place is awesome. Their fish selection is very well stocked, maintained, with fair pricing. The cat food and litter my cat loves is always in stock. The staff and owners are all great people. Worth making it your goto pet store.

Came here for turtle food and saw they have albino turtles so we poke around the aquatic aisle for a bit and checked it out. They have a lot of very interesting species(more interesting than a regular pet store). JACKIE who was tending the aquariums was so knowledgable and we're mind blown of all the knowledge she has about the fish and turtles. For a second there I thought she worked for National Geographic or Discovery Channel. We left with feeder guppies and a lot of knowledge about fish and turtles because of her! Thank you Jackie!

My first visit did not disappoint! Monster Pets has just about everything for all kinds of aquatic, avian, and four-legged pets. They have a great selection of cat toys (which is rarer than you might think). They even have a wide variety of baked goods for pets! The service was fast and friendly, and I'll definitely be returning soon.

I'm not one to give bad reviews typically, but with negligent animal care I can make an exception! It seems clear from other reviews that this establishment doesn't prioritise the health of their animals. Overcrowding animals, leaving them in enclosures that are absolutely too small or simply lack proper hiding places etcetera. The sale of spider ball pythons should always be frowned upon because it supports business to breeders who are reproducing ball pythons with the knowledge that ALL of them will suffer from some level of neurological issues.

Though some are in better shape than others by comparison, carrying them for sale ultimately supports the practice of breeding snakes that DO have a likelihood of suffering severe neurological issues.

The store itself was nice. The employees were really helpful. Didn't have a problem with them.however. I bought fish from them over a year ago. The fish I already had in my tank were healthy. I tested my water regularly. When I bought the 2 fish home and added them to the tank.one of them died within 2 days. I called, I returned the fish.and he was replaced.

No big deal. I bought the fish home, waited the adjustment period and released him. He was dead by the next morning. Within 3 days.every fish in my tank was dead. I had my other fish for months with no problem. This was not a water problem. it was the fish that were added from that store. I have since cleaned my tank and replaced my fish with fish from another store.and they have been thriving for a year with no problems.

I've seen the other reviews. I am not here for the store to try to blame me. I know how to care for an aquarium. I don't want a refund at this point, it has been to long. But the fish from this store simply are not healthy. Update in reference to the owners response ********************************************** I don't understand your confusion.because I was quite clear about the time.

I at no point said that the incident was recent. And apparently the fish weren't healthy.although I really don't expect you to admit that the fish in your store at that time weren't. Just accept the fact that I gave the staff accolades because I did find them to be kind and helpful while in the store.

My husband and I are new to Philly and actively on the hunt for shops that have a good selection of supplies for our cats and aquariums. Monster Pets had a surprising variety of healthy-looking fish stock displayed in an aesthetically pleasing way. I'd say it's worth a visit even just to check out the sweet pair of gigantic paludariums they have on display. MP had the wet food and treats our cats like, and I loved that they were playing some channel showing wild animal rescues on TV's around the store, so kudos for that.

Didn't interact with the staff much (which is my preference, I like to browse uninterrupted) but the girl who rang me out was very nice. Minus one star simply because I was specifically hoping that they had CO2 canisters for our freshwater plants and a greater variety of cat trees.

My go-to pet store for all my cat supplies. They have all the high quality food that I've been recommended and the basics as well. If you have a dog, the doggy treat bakery case is so cute. I believe they cater to other animals as well. My experience here is always much better than what I've had at a larger chains.

The place I've been searching for. The perfect place to feed my fish keeping addiction. Chris was extremely helpful. He made sure I got my Military Discount. He is extremely knowledgeable on fish. The place is very clean and very well stocked. Wish I didn't take so long to revisit. I was blow away with the remodeling they have done. One of the best aquariums around.

You will not be disappointed. There display tanks are incredibly as well. I highly recommend this place. Do not drive past if you are a fish keeper. Chris plus his soul into that place and it shows.

Recently my daughter asked for a fishtank. As fate would have it, I actually had an old one in the basement. Cleaned it up and bought new parts online and few days later we were ready for fish. First batch came from a chain pet store. The selection was as pathetic as the display. We did manage to find 3 of the fish on our fish list. I decided to check out Monster Pets and am I glad I did.

I was treated to a wide selection in an environment that feels like an aquarium. The young lady who helped me was extremely pleasant and helpful. I got a little education on a few fish and a couple of great recommendations. I bought 2 fish including one very similar to one from the chain store but at half the price. From what I saw, the prices were extremely reasonable.

I can't wait to go back with my daughter and show her what a pet store is supposed to be like. Chain stores and online serves their purpose but for live animals you want the personal touch afforded by a small local business.

Another five star visit for me at monster pets! Everyone here is super helpful, knowledgeable and nice. I came in for help with a canister filter I purchased there for my 25 year old turtles and Sue and her team went above and beyond to make sure I got what I needed for my scaley babies! Will always be returning to monster pets for all my animal needs and I recommend you do too.

BEWARE WHEN BUYING A RABBIT OR ANY OTHER ANIMAL FROM HERE. I recently purchased a rabbit from here and was told at time of purchase she was spayed. First of all it was like pulling teeth to try to get any information on her when getting her. It took two people to find out the sex. I then called a week after getting her to double check if she was spayed.

A girl on the phone said "yes, all of the rabbits have been spayed". Fast forward a month later & my rabbit is now smelling and humping & spraying everywhere so I call AGAIN and this time a man answered & informed me that none of their animals are spayed/neutered. I WOULD HAVE NOT BOUGHT A RABBIT FROM THERE IF IT WASNT SPAYED. I NOW I HAVE TO EITHER PAY 400-500 DOLLARS ON GETTING HER SPAYED OR GIVE HER UP. FUCK THIS PLACE!

Went here today for the first time and I LOVED it. The cashier was so nice. I bought my Staffy/pit mix a fresh baked cookie from their little bakery up front. They get them from a place in NJ and they may be partnering up with them soon i was told. Now, I can only speak to DOG ITEMS as i didn't walk further than that area. I wouldn't step foot in a reptile section anyway.

They had great choices for natural, locally made treats and the regular stuff you see in larger chains. The larger chain items are the same price there and i was advised they do price match as long as u have the circular to show the price (on your phone is fine). Dog bones were quality made and well priced. Toys were great too. Not a gigantic selection BUT i managed to find one my girl won't destroy in 5 seconds and loves to play with. I will be returning when I'm in the area, which is pretty frequently.

WORST pet store EVER! I just bought 4 parakeets (birds) and died in the same week, I was heartbroken that they die because they were fine playing around, eating, and sleeping. They should tell me if my birds are sick and there stupid return policy are no refunds. WORST PET STORE EVER!

Please don't shop here. The animals they sell are treated inhumanely and unethically. A large group of unfixed rabbits do not belong in a communal setting, and it's unconscionable that they're selling unfixed rabbits at all. A family member of mine recently adopted a rabbit that was purchased by a photographer from Monster Pets for Easter photo shoots (he was going to dump her at a "farm" after using her as a prop for about a month).

She was underweight and clearly hadn't had proper diet or care. There is clearly a lot of ignorance and lack of regard for the welfare of all animals at this store. If you care for and respect animals, Monster Pets does not deserve your money.

I brought my goldendoodle in for a nail clip yesterday. The lady suggested trimming the hair in her face so she could see better. I said okay and let her do her thing considering she is a groomer and should know what she's doing. Unfortunately, she shaved her face to the shortest possible length just short of being bald. She looks awful. She also suggested clipping her nails short enough so that they bleed just to get them shorter faster.

I don't understand why this place has not been shut down. The husbandry for the animals that they are selling isn't acceptable. They have snakes in tanks with no hides and incorrect bedding, and the poor birds had zero enrichment (toys, different sized and textured perches, etc.), only one or two of the solid rod perches of the wrong diameter for the size of the bird, and the perch sole perch was COVERED in poop!

It made so sad to see how they were caring for the animals. The employees were also a joke. Couldn't have been less interested in being there, no knowledge of the animals or husbandry of the animals they were selling, and no customer service- Just all around bad attitudes. Really unfortunate situation, and makes you want to save the animals.

I came in here with the urge to add a small animal to our household, and even though I ended up not getting one, I spent a half hour asking questions and holding the different critters. I didn't get the employee's name, but the nicest guy explained to care required and personality types of all of the tiny fur balls in stock. He was extremely patient with me and I walked away with a lot of new knowledge.

The only thing you need to know is that this joint is EXTREMELY overpriced. A 12 oz bottle of AllerPetC costs $19.99, and you can get the same thing on Amazon for $10.00. A 36 dog bed cost me $55.00 here, and I found the exact same bed on Amazon for $38.00. Not to mention the fact that I've seen dead animals here and have heard that their puppies are from puppy mills. It's better to just STAY AWAY.

This review is for the self dog washing station inside of the store. We took our pups to a huge off leash dog park that sits on a pond and they went for a swim. It was great, but afterward they were so smelly & muddy that I refused to let them in my house. So on our way home we popped in to give it a try. An employee was standing nearby and gave us the rundown. It's $10 for 10 minutes and we were able to get both of our dogs washed and relatively dry in that time frame.

One is 65lbs, one is 45lbs, the bigger one has thick fur that's slow drying. It's nice because you can wash them while standing, and inside the tub are two secured leashes so you can hook their collar to it to keep them from trying to jump out of the tub. Easy on your knees and you can use both hands to really scrub them. This is great and I won't ever wash them at home again! It's been 5 days and they still smell great!

The machine accepts debit/credit cards as well. Only downside is there is a section where the knob can be flipped from shampoo/conditioner/dry to cleaning/sanitizing the tub afterward. I'd have happily done that, but didn't realize and wasn't told that you must do this within your 10 minutes. So if you've used all of your time and want to sanitize the tub you have to put in another $10.

Last time I came here seeing the expensive prices labeled on the products, I hung my head and headed for the doors vowing never to return. There are so many other great pet stores like petco and petsmart with great prices one never needs to come to a place. Until you are desperate. I was looking for Syrian long hair teddy bear Hammies and all Google search tells me is to head to my local petsmart/petco.

And I did to find that they were so popular they are all out. I came here and to my surprise I had a litter to choose from. Picked up the cutest little hammie and I was blown away by the customer service. I really suggest to come here for adoption or Hammies but avoid this place for the usual pet supplies as other places will give you a better bang for your buck.
