Member of the Month! Oakland Dog Training Club has been teaching people how to train their dogs since 1947. We believe that both people and dogs are happiest when the dog is a well-behaved family member who knows what is expected of him or her. We have found that training integrates better into family life if an owner is the one who trains the dog, rather than having this done by a professional trainer. Both purebred and mixed breed dogs are welcome at all our classes. ODTC offers a complete training program divided into different levels.

Puppy Training - For puppies 10 weeks to 4 1/2 months at beginning of session. Puppies are socialized with people and each other. Puppies are introduced to basic obedience commands and get to play on puppy agility obstacles. Basic behavior issues such as house-training, chewing and barking are addressed.
I have been training dogs for 35+ yrs in obedience basic & advanced. I trained with a local obedience dog club for 25+ yrs, trained with a world renowned trainer for yrs, taken several seminars on dog training. I have extensive training with FEMA USAR teams across the USA, (9/11, Hurricanes) & Search & Rescue.
Q: When should I start training my puppy? A: You can start teaching a puppy good habits from the day you bring him or her home. However formal training should start after the second set of vaccines is given, generally around 10 - 12 weeks. Puppies do mature at different rates; so if you are unsure if your puppy is ready for a formal class, request an evaluation by one of our instructors.
We were on track to finish in early 2020 but had to take a required hiatus. Many thanks to Dee Dee Anderson's Dream Big training facility for her well organized, careful and thoughtful obedience and rally opportunities. It certainly helped to earn those last few pesky Rally Master points! Kable is now 9 1/2 years old and this title pretty much caps his competitive performance career. Except for obedience, he has attained the highest titles offered in Breed ( GCH), Rally (RACH) and Hunt Test ( Master Hunter Advanced- MHA.)

Puppy class trainers are really, really bad. They'd make good drill seargants. Condescending and not caring. Kill joys with a chip on their shoulders.

Excellent, professional owner/trainers who understand dogs and can train us to train our dogs. Well-equipped facilities, good parking, and a varied schedule of course offerings. Better value than pet stores for 7-week classes and I feel confident with the trainers' understanding of dog behaviors and correction. Worth every penny!

Signing up for the classes was a bit difficult, but based on the nosework class I took with Albert, I'll definitely be back for more! My class had everything from nervous to fearful to overexcited dogs (mine was the latter), and all were handled perfectly.

Best place to learn how to train your dog. Thoughtful, knowledgeable, sensitive trainers familiar with all breeds of dogs.
