The Ohio SPCA investigates and removes hundreds of companion and farm animals suffering in life-threatening situations. We dream of a day when cruelty to animals can be reduced to the point of elimination. The OHIO SPCA strives to bring change and reform in order to create a more progressive society in which uncivilized behavior does not exist. People should not only show compassion to one another, but they must extend it to all living creatures.

Every humane organization dreams of the day when cruelty to animals can be reduced to the point of elimination. The OHIO SPCA (formerly known as the Ohio Humane Education Association) was formed in 1983 to help bring this dream to reality through humane education. The Ohio Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals works to prevent and stop cruelty to animals throughout Ohio. Our mission falls into three main areas: 1) intervention in cases of animal cruelty, 2) animal rehabilitation, and 3) rural county reform.
Once an animal is rescued by the Ohio SPCA, the road to recovery begins. Animals are examined by veterinarians and provided with immediate medical care. From the tiny dove to the big bovine, animals are given a second chance in life. Many of the animals are in such poor condition that they must be hospitalized for varying lengths of time.
Animal abuse and neglect are rampant in many Ohio counties. Due to lack of resources and personnel, the Ohio SPCA has reached out to many county law enforcement agencies and humane societies. Through collaboration with county officials, the Ohio SPCA is able to bridge the gap and assist in animal cruelty investigations through the training of humane officers, providing animal cruelty investigators, humane education, and on-the-ground animal rescue.Through partnerships and teamwork, abused and neglected animals receive the help they need.
Horse abuse and neglect are rampant in many Ohio counties. Due to the lack of resources and funding for large animals, many rural county humane societies and law enforcement agencies have reached out to the Ohio SPCA. Whenever possible, our investigators will work with horse owners in an attempt to improve the health and environment for equines.

Tried to get ahold of them through Facebook and called them several times in the span of a week. They NEVER answer. Also, their hours are never accurate. This hasn't just been recently happening. I've struggled to get ahold of them for years! I know they are there to help animals and that's amazing and all. but their customer service is atrocious. Im not sure how they get any adoptions.

Been trying to get ahold of them to help me rescue an abused/neglected dog in my neighborhood. I explained to them how the humane society won't help. No response so I send another email. They respond saying I have to contact the humane society. I respond & explain how I told them I tried to & no luck. I am an avid animal lover & donate to multiple rescues monthly including this one.
So if literally NO ONE will help me when an animal needs rescued then what's my money going to?! It kills me to have to sit back and watch my neighbor leave his dog outside 24/7 tied to a lead.many times deprived of food and water. Oh ya they still have yet to respond to my last email!

We adopted a dog from this facility and had a very positive experience. They let us visit and take our time and helped us find the right fit for our family. Our interactions with everyone there from every staffer to every volunteer was warm and welcoming. They were very knowledgeable of each animal and their personalities. It was clear they have both the adopting family but most importantly the animals best interest at heart. We look forward to going back to volunteer and support this shelter in their cause. Highly recommend.

Very disappointed. I went here 4 years before it was SPCA and got my cat they were great. They asked us what we kimd of cat we were looking for, what our household was like, and other things to help us find the perfect cat. This time though no one asked what we were looking for. I couldn't figure out who worked there. When I did figure out who worked there they seemed very bothered by questions.
I really wanted this specific cat but when I asked the age of the cat the guy said he would look but after 15 minutes he was already going about other things. I didn't want to wait any longer so I gave up and left.
