The majority of other schools are intentionally withholding the most valuable information about their dog training services from their clients. The Ohio State K-9 College believes in giving you the whole truth about the dog training industry because choosing the best training school for you and your dog is impossible without having all the facts first.

This website was designed by Ohio State K-9 College for the sole purpose of enabling anyone interested in obtaining professional training to understand the huge quality differences between all schools before paying.
Services
When I started in this profession, I knew I would change the face of dog training forever! I have always had a deep love for dogs since I was a child. I've watched trainers from all over the world work with dogs and couldn't fathom why I had to "choke, etc" my best friend to make him OBEY me. I was always told "Well, that's just the way it has to be done or the dog won't RESPECT you, " but I just COULDN'T agree.
The group or boarding STYLE, combined with the choke, spike, shock collar or treat METHOD, is applied by the EXPERIENCE of a dog trainer for average results. This AMATEUR SYSTEM can be taught by a beginner or amateur trainer, using these methods, in a matter of minutes. The OTHER SCHOOLS system of training, obviously doesn't take much time, knowledge, skills or experience to master.
Once you understand the quality differences between the five methods of training that trainers use, you'll realize the voice control method of training is absolutely the best. In fact the method of training will be so important, you won't even consider allowing any trainer to use their inferior methods on your dog, nor will you use them if you truly love your dog.
They're instructed on how and when to choke, spike or shock their dog or teach them with treats. Owners and dogs endure several weeks or months of chaotic group style classes. The trainer is trying to explain to everyone simultaneously, which causes dog owners and dogs to become confused and bewildered.

Ohio State K-9 College makes the difference! I was in a pickle with my Dutch shepherd breeder from out of state and I reached out to Joe (the master trainer) for consultation and he spent 4 hours over several days stepping in the gap for me because our breeder was giving us problems. Joe generously supplied crucial dog training information to help me to know that our breeder was NOT keeping their end of the deal to do preliminary obedience training before we got our dog. Joe also helped us to understand that we had a world champion lineage on our hands, including FCI, IPO, and Schutzhund.

The breeder had committed: sit, stay, down, come, heel. And after MONTHS.our dog could only do sit. After signing up to be a student with the school for the Total Control Course, Joe helped us to get ALL 5 commands with just voice within a few weeks! It was amazing! The bond, loyalty, and respect I've been able to develop with Koda is truly astounding and FUN. Joe is helping me and my wife prepare for a lifelong friendship and companionship with our Dutch and we are very pleased. Joe knows a ton about training, nutrition, health, and the psychology of dogs.

We were able to undo the damage done by the breeder with the choke collar and get consistent obedience with just voice or hand command with Koda. We are continuing to refine and work our dog with the principles learned from Joe and we are glad we picked Ohio State K9 College. Now our dog does: sit, stay, come, down, heel from 150+ feet! And doesn't eat, drink, exit crate, go outside, inside unless we tell him.

His behavior indoors and outdoors is great! He doesn't go crazy when seeing other dogs or humans and behaves himself, too. If you are looking to be a student, be DILIGENT with what Joe teaches. You MUST be. Your dog will only be as good as you CONSISTENTLY train it. You must have agreement in your home about dog training and boundaries. It has served my wife and me super well to have this agreement.

You don't have to listen to the stuff the dog training "industry" tells you about NEEDING choke, spike, or shock collars. And there IS a difference between shock collars and e-collars. I know we have a 7 month old Dutch shepherd, which is arguably one of the most difficult working dogs to train due to its high level of suspicion but with Joe's help, we've achieved much with Koda. Thank you Joe!

I have researched several dog training options and came across Master Trainer, Joey Byas, of Ohio State K-9 College website. After reviewing his Study guide, Summary, Testimonials, and Google reviews, it was apparent that Joey is very knowledgeable in his trade. I myself, have attended group training and totally understand his viewpoints and perspective with group training vs. one on one training.

I am writing this review prior to even receiving Master Dog Training from Joey. If you review Joey's website, you will notice the color coded font in the colors Red and Green. Focus on the Red color verbiage, and you will quickly see that Joey is an educated, knowledgeable straight shooter and point on. My biggest take away from all of this is to really scrutinize how the other Dog Training facilities train and treat our beloved dog friends.

I compare dog training to picking out a College, buying a house, and shopping for child daycare. Do your homework and due diligence and you will be surprised like I was. One thing I learned in dog training is you get what you put into training with time, consistency and patience. I look forward to working with Joe and my Bernedoodle Zoey, and seeing his evaluation. You owe it to yourself, and your beloved Dog and partner, to be the best that you both can be.

I am a research-oriented person and I completed a lot of research in finding Joey and Ohio State K9. I read every positive and negative review I could find, as well as his website, in depth. I wanted to train my dog in a focused one-on-one situation with an expert trainer and I wanted to be certain our dog would listen to my commands and not the trainer's. Joey offered this and promised I would have a dog that would listen to whispered or hand-commands from across the room or off-leash outside if I was willing to put in all the effort I could.

I appreciate the entire process because this is incredibly hard. You need to know that you can work with Joey and he can work with you and your dog. You must be patient and completely invested. It is NOT easy! However, Joey Byas is a kind man who is passionate about dogs and devoted to his students. His knowledge is extensive and he not only trained his main student, me, but he generously also trained my husband and frequently our daughters.

He is always wonderful with our children. He and Sherelina welcomed them into their home and even buy them candy when they know they're coming. "Uncle Joey" supported the kids in their efforts to train the dog and both can utilize the training he gave us. I am a quiet and gentler person by nature and struggled with the loud assertive NOs and required corrections but Joey helped me through it and educated me to become the trainer my dog needed. Joey also stood by us throughout our daily lives.

I texted, emailed, and called him many times with a concern and he was supportive, helpful, and able to quickly resolve the issue. Once, our dog was injured and, in a panic, I texted Joey as I was on the way to the vet. He immediately called to help and reassure us. Joey suffered the losses of his mother and one of his own dogs during our time in training and he was never any less devoted to us or our efforts. Joey helped us in virtually every aspect of owning our dog.

He helped us select a collar, leashes, proper food, supplements, grooming tools and tactics, he even trimmed her nails for us the first time! At one point, we brought a box of toys in and Joey went one by one through them and taught us why one was good or bad and helped us choose toys going forward. Our dog is a Berger Blanc Suisse which translates to a wonderful but difficult blend of being very intelligent, very sensitive, and very strong willed.

She also has a very high prey drive. Joey reassured us that he would fix all of our concerns and, in the end, we would have the dog we wanted and knew she could be. Joey taught us to earn her respect while never breaking her trust. We completed in-person classes both inside and outside and online Skype classes, all of which were equally effective.

If our dog demonstrated a negative behavior (or many) during our classes, Joey would spend time correcting these issues. He knows alternate methods to different struggles and will evaluate you and read the dog to know which method to use for the best chance of success. He will not give up on your or your dog regardless of how frustrating the class or situation may be.

We and our dog have gained a wealth of knowledge. Command-wise, she has learned sit, stay, down, no, fun, heel, come, inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs, cage, potty, load up, and unload. To name a few examples, our dog is able to heel toe-to-toe by my side off-leash inside or outside. We are able to whisper one-word commands or do a hand motion from across the room and she will eagerly follow our command on the first command.

We are able to let our dog go outside on our farm and regardless of where she is, she will come running when we say come. She knows how to load and unload from our cars and will maintain a down-stay through our rides. Joey also corrected many bad behaviors. Joey has also agreed to board our pup when we went on vacation and even continued to train her for us during this time. Our dog is now a wonderful family dog and I would strongly recommend Joey to any dog owner.

My dog and I absolutely love everything that is done at Ohio State canine College. I could not be more proud of the end results that my dog and I accomplished. The three obedience levels that I purchased called The Total Control Course, Behavior training, Housebreaking and Socialisation courses are truly unbelievable!

When my puppy Ricardo was about 12 weeks old, I started internet shopping for a professional trainer. I found a school that I was interested in and went there to begin training. However, after showing up at the school, they informed me that somehow they didn't receive my application, but, said that I was welcome to watch a class in action. During their class I found out their method of training by using TREATS and a CHOKER collars, don't meet my approval.

After returning home, I started researching for another training school that I do approve of and found the Ohio State K-9 College. I read their ENTIRE website and found that they offer EVERYTHING that I desired and called to speak with the trainer. He explained all of the enrolment information required for the evaluation and I decided to set an appointment.

I was so impressed their (state of the art) system of training: their 100% voice control METHOD, their One-on-One STYLE, and the fact that they are the ONLY SCHOOL with Master Trainer with 42+ years of experience. At this point my internet shopping was over. After speaking with the Master Trainer and reading his website, it was most apparent how much he loves his work.

In fact, he arms each of his potential students with all the information needed for them to be able to choose the best school possible. I also found that they are the ONLY SCHOOL that offered all the training COURSES my puppy and I would need to attain the results I desire.

I highly recommend Ohio State K9 College. My husband and I first met Master Trainer Joey Byas over eight years ago. We decided to add a Cane Corso, Buddy, to our family of eight that included our four toddlers and two rescue dogs. We understood the impressive size and assertive confident nature of the breed would require dedication and proper training on our part to ensure he became a successful integrated part of our family.

After spending a lot of time researching trainers and training techniques, I came across the web page of Ohio State K9 College. I was immediately drawn to the training offered: obedience, behavior, housebreaking, guard, attack, ect. In addition, I loved the fact the training did not require choke or spike collars and provided LIFE TIME SUPPORT. I don't know any other program that does that!

This was the most comprehensive program I found that would provide Buddy the training he needed as a puppy and any future training we may want to obtain to refine and add to his foundational skills. After studying and taking the online test I called Joey. The phone interview was lengthy but well worth my time providing me with invaluable information and solidifying the fact this program was the best for my fur baby.

I quickly came to realize Joey was training me in addition to Buddy providing me the skills and knowledge that would benefit me throughout my life as a dog owner. I worked not only with Buddy but our other two older dogs (lab and boarder collie) as well. Buddy grew to be an 185lb intimidating looking dog, but to us he was the most obedient and loyal member of our family. MY and Buddy's training with Joey provided a foundation that allowed us to enjoy Buddy to the fullest never worrying about his size or lack of being able to control our dog.

He was wonderful with our kids, fit right in with our dogs, and could be outside with us off leash despite the fact we did not have a fenced in yard! YES, no fence just voice command and respect. After Buddy passed, we became involved with a local pit bull rescue. We have fostered many dogs. Some have had issues with being fearful, potty training, and even aggression but our training with Joey has prepared us for all of it.

I relied on my training with Joey to help other dogs find peace and be successful in their forever homes. Joey Byas' passion and dedication to turning out well-rounded, well-trained dogs and OWNERS was evident in Buddy. Buddy outweighed me by 50lbs+ but he respected me and listened to every command I gave. I did have questions as Buddy grew and Joey was always there to answer and help me work through any new behaviors.

We have continued to foster pit bulls bringing them into our pack of FIVE fur babies and four kids. My training at Ohio State K9 college taught me foundational skills that allows me to bring rescue dogs into my home to train and provide a new start for them built on solid training teaching respect, obedience, and most importantly trust of their owner. Thank you Master Trainer Joey Byas for all you have done for me, my family, our dogs, and the pit bulls we rescue!

My boyfriend and I had gotten a Newfoundland, named Appa, for our second dog as a puppy at the beginning of the pandemic. Since he wasn't socialized during all the quarantining madness, he would get unruly when on walks or around other dogs/people. At about 7 months of age, we realized we needed professional help. Since he was a large breed, we really wanted to make sure he had the necessary discipline and structure instilled in his life so we wouldn't get into bad situations with other dogs or people.

I researched any and every dog trainer in Ohio, and the prices were so crazy I felt out of hope, especially with the programs I was seeing requiring you to drop off your dog then pick them up once they were "done". I eventually came across Joeys program, Ohio State K9 College. You can tell just from the website, that he is really passionate with what he does. Joey really knows his stuff, and it shows with each lesson.

Any time I lost confidence in myself during training at home, the next time I spoke with him I regained that confidence because I had someone like HIM helping US. There is nothing he is unsure of when it comes to dog training. Each class, he is always quick and alert to correct both my dog AND me during lessons to ensure we're both on the right path. Anytime I wasn't achieving a result I expected, Joey was able to pinpoint what needed to be adjusted in order to see success from both me and my dog.

My favorite thing about this program is that he trains the OWNER AND THE DOG. It helped me really understand how to be an excellent dog owner when it comes to giving my pet constant structure so we both can coexist understanding each other in a healthy way. After each lesson, he does the same exact thing for several other classes throughout the day for different types of dogs and owners.

That's insane and impressive, especially since it's just one man and not a corporation of people. After our courses with our classes, Appa has gone SUCH a long way it's insane. It really made me open my eyes that my dog was never a "bad" dog, he needed me to help him get into a routine to set positive boundaries and rules. I could not have done any of that without Joey, truly.

Not only that, but he gives you the knowledge you need with what types of collars and leashes to utilize that would be excellent for training purposes, the RIGHT way. This man is a fountain of dog wisdom and I am fortunate to have been able to learn under him. There is no dog that I believe Joey could not train, honestly.

Joey has a passion for working with dogs, and it really shines through in his work! He did an excellent job training our German Shepherd puppy, Maddy. She was the first large dog I ever owned and Joey taught me so much about how to handle her and make her follow commands. As it turns out, I needed as much training as Maddy did! With Joey's training techniques, we have developed an impressive bond with our new dog.

He is also the only person I would allow to board Maddy when we travel, because he reinforces all of the training we have done with him. This way she doesn't get 'spoiled' by the wrong handler while we are away. I would recommend him to anyone seeking an experienced, qualified dog trainer, especially for large breeds. Thank you OSK9!

Our 8 week old German Shepard/Husky mix is a hard working dog that is full of energy and excitement. Many critics online said that this dog would need training that involved shock or choker collars but not with the Master Trainer Joe HAND and VOCAL command style. At the start of September we took our puppy to Joe for her first training class, but what made our experience so special was we did the whole training over Skype!

I've never seen anything like this and i fully expected this to not work since the dog feels like I'm the fun and not the serious trainer. After maybe 5-10 mins into the session I could have the dog perfectly sitting and staying consistently on command with just vocal Commands. Every new training excessive Joe gave us multiple ways to train the dog a trick/command (cage training, housebreaking, stairs, potty).

What we loved most about this training is Joe's professionalism and high energy that made training FUN. Now many think that training can't be fun for you or the dog but Joe makes it FUN. We would highly recommend Joe and the Ohio State K9 College to anyone looking to train their dog, along with themselves. If you buy into Joe and his training program, you WILL get the results you are looking for.

The first thing to know about the Ohio State K-9 College is that it is not for everybody. You have to be willing to actively learn to be a student at this school. This starts at the website. When I bought my puppy I couldn't see training her with a shock collar or other cruel method. I researched every single trainer in central Ohio, diligently read every website, and eventually settled on Ohio State K-9 College. Then, I found I had to apply myself to learning before I ever set foot in a class. Joey, the trainer of masters (he teaches people, not dogs) spent hours on the phone with me.

He quizzed me to see if I had actually read his website. He told me how other schools trained dogs. He explained how he trained people. He asked me what I expected to get out of my purchase. He talked, and talked and talked; and he expected me to listen. I did not expect this experience. I expected to call, make an appointment and start training my dog.

Initially I was a bit frustrated; however, having decided that I wanted this school I powered through. WOW! It has been worth it. Joey is amazing. My little girl is sitting and staying, laying down, coming to me, and starting to heel after just three weeks of training (and practicing). Once you employ Joey, he is with you for the long haul. You get private instruction customized to you and your dog.

There are no distractions, no other animals to take the instructor's attention away from you and you truly benefit from someone with over 30 years of experience working with dogs. My adult son has autism, and Joey is working with him to teach him how to care for the dog, as well as training the dog to care for my son. It is wonderful to see that partnership growing. Joey does not take every potential student who calls.

He doesn't have that kind of time. He uses his time on the phone to screen out the people who will not have the open mind and/or open ears to work with him and use his method. This can (and probably does) put many people off. My mother used to tell me that no progress comes without effort. Joey's system works very well if you are willing to put the time and effort into working with your dog.

My puppy is so proud of herself when she get the commands correctly - you can see it in her posture. Oh, and to people who want a price over the phone - Joey must meet the dog and owner first. How can he know if it will take six weeks or 12 weeks to teach you until after he meets you? To summarize: Before you start with any trainer, do your due diligence; read their websites thoroughly. Call them, and see how long they will spend on the phone with you. Actively listen to what they have to say. You will undoubtedly end up at Ohio State K-9 College.

I've rated Joey Byas 5 stars because he has, in a few short weeks, transformed our dog. Our dog was an 6 month old rescue pup who was wild beyond belief. In fact we tried to give her back without success. Pet store training class helped very little. However, in seven weeks Joe has trained me and our dog in the basic five commands (sit, stay, come, down, and heel) OFF leash using whisper commands or hand signals ONLY.

I could have never imaged that happening. I taught university, post-graduate level courses for 40 years and I don't think some of my student caught on to basic concepts any quicker. He is a superb teacher. Joe also has the patience of the Biblical figure Job and goes beyond the extra mile to help me AND our dog perfect our training. I highly recommend him to anyone who is really serious about training their dog. I look forward to writing a more complete review when we have completed our training.

Went here several years ago and purchased total control course and still happy with decision. The training process is a major commitment for master and dog, as well for Joey, so he takes things seriously. Interview process seems 2-sided as he is evaluating potential students (and their dogs) as much as he is being evaluated as a trainer. He will not even meet with you until you read every section of his web site and pass the quiz.

This intensity might turn off some people, but I sensed and respected his passion for his work. Biggest differences between OSK9 and several other options that I researched are: (1) It is all one-on-one training with you, your dog, and Joey (no apprentices/interns, and no group lessons). Your results are guaranteed for the life of the dog, so you can always go back for refreshers if problem behaviors arise (not needed for us). (2) Joey teaches masters first and foremost.

From what I learned I feel that I could train all of my dogs on my own for the rest of my life, but I'll still probably take my next dog there to work on advanced topics. Beyond the actual training, Joey also taught us a ton about grooming nutrition, and equipment, and has even provided emergency boarding for fair price when stay-in petsitter fell through.

The training strengthened my family's relationship with our working breed dog and the ongoing command practice is part of my dog's "job", which vital for its mental well being. The cost is substantial but not doing it could've cost infinitely more given the damage that the dog could have done to itself/property/people without proper training, and it's very cheap considering most large dogs are an 8-14 year commitment and the training itself involved several months of weekly personal lessons. I highly recommend Joey and OSK9 for those who can commit to the process and required practice.
