Recently took my dog here (in April). She was acting very weird and aggressive after. I discovered that she got snipped in her private area. Called to address the issues, Amber didn't take accountability. Unprofessional & I will not be returning. Amber, if you are going to respond to reviews, please respond to every 1 star you have received & not just mine. Thank you! Best wishes.

AMAZING. Let me preface with if you have a serious sense of urgency regarding your dogs groomer, this may not be the place for you. BUT if you don't mind the vacation you and your pet get for the day, then check this place out. The care, patience and attentiveness for the pets is obvious, and she ends up with a great haircut every time. The prices are also very reasonable for charlottesville. Thank you Pantops Pet Salon!

Took my 3 month old puppy to get her first haircut and the ladies here did a great job. As soon as we arrived my puppy was greeted with a hug which made her feel at home. I thought this would be a frightening experience for her but these people are clearly pet lovers as well as being good at their trade. I will be a returning customer.

I'm new to Charlottesville and looking for a good groomer. Pantops Pet Salon is close to where I live, so I decided to give them a try. They gave my Goldendoodle the worst cut she's ever had. One ear is literally two inches longer than the other. Her coat is choppy with gouges and tufts throughout. Also, they kept my dog from 8:00 to 5:00 - way too long for her, and she was agitated the next day.

I was charged $100 for this mess because she needed a flea treatment. I was told that the base rate going forward would be $85. For that price in Warrenton, where I lived before, she got a bath, blow dry, and a beautiful custom cut with personal attention from the same groomer every time, done in 3 hours. This wasn't a good experience for my dog, and she got a really poor cut for a custom price. I won't be going back there.

We did not have a good experience. Inexperienced at handling a dog that doesn't like her feet touched for a nail trim. We have had no problem at Petco, she doesn't like it but the handlers know how to get it done at Petco without an issue. Here, she was nipping and whining but would never bite. Instant muzzle on her, she was scared, drooling. There were two people trying to handle her. I won't go back, just not a good vibe all around.

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Value The cut of my dog was not great, it was rather uneven on the ears, though her shave was fine. The price was excessive, a good $10 more than anywhere else. They offered to spray with cologne which I accepted but wish I had not as it's very pungent and not the best smell. Will look elsewhere next time I need a trim.

I have used Pantops Pet Salon for around 16-17 years. My first Yorkie was a Champion (retired) and maintained a "dust ruffle" initially. As she grew older, she wore a shorter cut. She was a ribbon girl. Our current Yorkie is definitely NOT a foo-foo girl, so wears a short cut with no ribbons or kerchiefs. The groomers and owner have always been friendly, treat the dogs with love and care, and do a great job. I have recommended this business many times, and will continue to do so.

I have been a faithful patron of Pantops Pet Salon for 14 years with the same dog, Smyrna. We have had a wonderful experience with them when Julie was there. I used to tell everyone to go there. At 14 years old my little Shih Tzu has bumps that are often nicked when she goes there and bleeding when she returns. I have never complained - only asked them to be more careful - because I had faith they do the best they can.

We have always had good reports from the groomers. Last time I took her Amber said that she was nervous and nipping them during the grooming and told us Smyrna would not be allowed to return to get groomed there. I was shocked. After 14 years of loyalty to a business you would think that we would be treated better than this. A better manager would have thanked us for our loyalty and let us know that Smyrna had a bad day and tell us about the situation and assumed some responsibility.

They would have acknowledged our trust in them and tried to discuss ways that both their groomers and us as owners could make Smyrna feel more comfortable there instead of telling us not to return after one incident. I am severely disappointed. I think they are under some new ownership and that in the past they did a great job. Now it appears that if your dog has any health problems or is anything but a perfect easy dog to groom they're not able to handle it. Smyrna and I will gladly find another place to go!

Before making an appointment, I watched the videos on the web site and was pleased at the extent of the services. I called to get a quote and was told (after she carefully looked it up in the book) that my dog's brush & bath would cost "no more than $45.00". When I picked my dog up they had not clipped her pad hairs or private parts as advertised in the videos. (They did not have to do her nails, because I had done them the day before).

And they charged me $55.00. (They said they charged me extra because I had not brushed her hind quarters out thoroughly before bringing her in for a BRUSH and wash). Four hours after bringing my dog home she was walking with her head tilted to the right - though her ears were clean, they were left wet enough to have her scratching. If you choose to use Pantops Pet Salon my recommendation is to get a written quote and thoroughly inspect the work before leaving the premises - I wish I had.

I have been bringing my West Highland Terrier to this pet salon for 9 years.since he was a puppy. The ladies that work here are fabulous and take great care of him. Now, Mr. Buttons is a biter and can be somewhat agressive. As he got older there was no improvement. The ladies could have easily turned us away, but they were patient and advised us to speak with our Vet to get medicine that will make Buttons less agressive when he comes for his appointment.

That is exactly what we did and the first time we used the medicine it worked great. But, the last 2 times were not so effective and we noticed the Vet gave us something different. Again, the ladies worked with us even though Buttons was naughty. I don't want them to get bit so I am going to circle back with my Vet to get the right medicine going forward.

We appreciate the Pet Salon team very much. They do great work and my Westie gets so many compliments. I have told so many pet owners about this salon and many have come or are already customers. Thanks for all you do!

The first time our poodle was groomed here was good. Friendly groomer and she looked good with no reports of issues. Today we had a different groomer. Our poodle has dirty ears, here poodle her legs and rump are huge compared to the butcher job done on her ears and head. The new groomer reported that our sweet poodle who had a great experience last time, was bad during the grooming and really matted.

She was groomed only 5 weeks ago. Not to mention, our poodle appeared scared when I arrived. I won't be back because to add insult to injury they charged me $80 to make my dog look so bad. So confusing how one groomer was so good and the next one so bad.

Very pleased with Pantops Pet Salon! I called and they were able to get my dog in the next day. They did an amazing job giving my golden retriever a summer cut. It was a well blended cut, he was super soft and smelled great when I picked him up! I would highly recommend them and look forward to going to them in the future.

Pantops Pet Salon is terrific. The staff are friendly, skilled, and professional, but best of all, my dogs LOVE coming here -- and dogs, I think we'd all have to agree, give the most honest reviews of all! My experience, and the experiences that so many friends have had with PPS, has always been positive.so much so that I was moved to research the review history of two reviewers who've given the salon very low ratings.

Note this well: Both of the unhappy reviewers seem to be virtually always disappointed by any service that they receive -- not just Pantops Pet Salon, but restaurants, personal services, etc. I guess some people just can't be satisfied or happy. Anyway, don't be warned off of Pantops Pet Salon by these party-poopers.and your pets with thank you!

We are not groomers! When you text us about a 6/8 blade or whatever what did we know. Also I understand your the one yes you! the owner who went mad crazy and shaved all my dogs hair off. Not the girl who said she was grooming him and told me she knew how too groom a golden doodle. It was Friday and you probably wanted to hurry since you probably pay your workers by the hour.

My dog was not matted as to mandate the butchering you did. Patience and a little combing and Some actual grooming would have been great instead you took the cheap lazy way out. Why hAvnt you explained why you never in 8 hrs gave him a drop of water? You had him laying in a cage all that time without letting him out or giving him water. I don't care about your other customers. I'm not as stupid as they are. I'll be heading to pampered pets! Where they actually groom not shave.

The staff is always friendly and professional, the salon is modest but clean and pleasant, and most importantly our dog always comes out clean, tidy, well-groomed and happy. Highly recommended.

I have used this salon for over 25 years - Mike has taken care of 4 of my dogs during this time and I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience! I have even called and they are able to work me in with short notice most of the time. They also have worked with me when I've had a special need for a quick turnaround time and early pickup.

My dogs are always excited to go to this salon and always happy when I arrive to be picked up. Even my timid elderly Shih Tzu was taken care of tenderly during her last years- still being excited when we pull into the parking lot! I would not think of using any other salon in Charlottesville simply because I've always been so pleased with my service here. Julie and Mike have been very good to me and my pets.

Awful experience. The salon reeked of cigarette smoke at 9am and also looked dirty. I wish I turned around and left because it only got worse. They completely butchered my dog and shaved his entire coat including his face and whiskers in the middle of winter! I have a U.S. champion show dog who has been groomed for 11 years. I have groomed him myself and he is perfect.

His groomer in San Francisco with decades of experience said he was one of his top 5 dogs of all times and that he thought my dog enjoyed the grooming experience. This was a complete hack job and absolutely not the work of a professional groomer. Even his nails are jagged. They charged me $95. My dog walker picked him up and is beside herself and is trying to help me find a sweater since he loves to walk outside, which isn't safe now with this cut.

The salon owner was unapologetic and said he couldn't figure out his credit card machine to put the 20% tip I left back on my card (which I had to request because I am not tipping this monstrosity). For the health and safety of your dog, DO NOT GO HERE. My dog still smells of cigarette smoke.

This place was very overpriced. We have an 8lb dog which we paid $60 dollars to get shaved. In addition, upon picking the dog up we were told that in the future we would have to pay more to if he was in, "that condition" again. (He's a a shitzu poodle mix, aka has nappy curls). We have had the same service done at other establishments and paid $20 less.

One employee in particular was just plain rude about the dog having knots in his fur. I understand that some people groom their dogs more than others, but we are just not the type to brush the dog daily. And being insulted for not doing so is just not cool. Lastly, we noticed the dog was scooting around on his bum later in the night and discovered a cut from the clippers. I am really laid back, understand dogs squirm and how easy it must be to nick him, but not addressing this when I picked him up is not acceptable.
