DOG fosters: with some of our foster families headed back to work and school, we're looking for a few more people to add to our Foster Roster! We may not have the right dog for you immediately, but we want to make sure we have some extra homes available when we have dogs who need them! Fill out the foster application or email with any questions! If you are interested in fostering CATS (especially adult cats!) fill out an application or email us for more info. Adoptions and intake will continue to take place, but all appointments must be scheduled in advance after filling out an adoption application-the shelter will not be open to the general public.
Services
The Pixie Project is a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue. We offer a variety of services to the public including but not limited to: pet adoption services, pet owner education and support and low cost and free spay and neuter and veterinary services for homeless and low-income pet owners.
Amy Sacks is the founder and Executive Director of the Pixie Project. She's been an animal lover her whole life, running a spay/neuter clinic and an animal adoption program in college and working with homeless youth to ensure that their animals were healthy and spayed/neutered. In 2006, Amy turned her passion into reality when she founded the Pixie Project.
We're a nonprofit animal rescue that focuses on doing really great, family friendly cat and dog adoptions. We also run a low-cost veterinary clinic to provide care to senior, veteran, disabled, and low-income pet owners. If you're interested in adopting a cat, you can meet most of our available cats and kittens at Pixie or check out our website to see cats that are off-site or in foster homes.
Pixie is currently operating by appointment with an approved adoption application. Applications must be filled out BEFORE making an appointment to meet any dogs, cats, or kittens. Even if you're unsure of which specific pet you'd like to meet, filling out the application is the first step. You do not need to put a specific pet's name on the application!

I have been able to count on Pixie Project for years to help me with my efforts of homing orphaned stray kittens. They have always been amenable to my situation when invariably once a year, I end up finding at least one batch on my porch and the mother ends up disappearing. Thank you Pixie Project!

NOT A RESCUE SHELTER. Was under the assumption it was based on information given then I was told I was "emotionally blackmailing them" for trying drop off a very well behaved dog that needed to be microchipped. Very rude and unprofessional.

I was willing to adopt a 13-yr-old dog. I am experienced with senior dogs with medical conditions and currently have a special needs dog. Things were progressing fine, until I made the mistake in mentioning that I thought the price was a bit high for a senior dog and that the price should be lower then that of a younger dog. That was a show-stopper for them and I was told we were an unsuitable match.

So sad I could have given this dog a good home. He is still available and I hope he finds a great home with someone who can afford him. I realize they put a lot of money into their animals, but I think it is important they get to families who can give them a future in their senior years.

I walked by The Pixie Project when I was at a conference (across the street) and wanted to do a kitten meet and greet. I ended up adopting a 3 month old kitten who was already neutered and had one of his kitten immunizations. It definitely seemed like a place much more geared towards cats, and I had a pleasant experience with him. Due to our kitty's weight loss while he had been in the kitten center, we did foster to adopt.

I had emailed to confirm his second immunization and we would officially adopt him, but when we showed up there was confusion that we had him with us. Ultimately, he was seen and we officially adopted him, so the experience was fine, just a little confusing.

Got my kitty fixed here. Really good communication and awesome folks helping out animals on a sliding scale. Whats not to love?! Really helped me provide the best care for my sweet rescue that entered my life at a time I wasnt emotionally or financially expecting (as cats do.) I am so grateful for the work that happens here!

They were very kind to Fluffy Pete and Keith. My boys received excellent care and were their old selves within 24 hours of being neutered. If someone would like to donate, I would recommend the pixie project.

Please be careful about surrendering animals here. I have been trying to get help for a sick cat that was living in a colony, so I contacted The Pixie Project. After submitting a form I received a call and we discussed the cat's condition. I was told that they would euthanize the cat if I surrendered it, even though they never examined her. I do appreciate the honesty, but the vet who actually did examine the cat (twice) has not recommended euthanasia.

After reading the other reviews, it seems like unwarranted euthanasia may be a common problem. Please ask a lot of questions when surrendering an animal here and consider other rescues and shelters, especially if you are surrendering an animal with medical or behavioral issues.

A few friends of mine were dog-sitting a good pup that turned out to have behavioral issues with other pets and children, upon trying to return the pup to the owners after the duration of dog sitting, the owners went ghost and fell off the face of the earth. The owners had a euthanasia appointment (due to behavior) at the Pixie Project, after spending time alone with the dog we realized that she has way too good of a heart to be put down, regardless of the previous attacks she has made.

She has the potential to be trained if in the proper placement. While in the parking lot of the Euth appointment, (which got pushed back 2 hours after we were already there) we decided to not go through with the appointment they had because we knew in our hearts the dog could be great if in the right home. When calling from the parking lot to cancel the appointment, we were told by Amy that we are cancelling the appointment for our "own mental clarity." we were called "selfish" for letting the dog live.

We cancelled the appointment after we found a home with a behavioral therapist for dogs with aggression and let Amy know that it was good news. Amy stated that "It's actually horrible news, no one can save this dog besides us putting it down.". I have attached update photos in the order they were received, Willow is now thriving. She has only been sweet in this home.

I have also provided screenshots of updates I have received on her behavior. I will never support Pixie Project or anything to do with them again. Unless you have a small boutique style dog, they will be no help to you. Overall, I am happy with what took place for Willow's life. But I am furious and disappointed at Pixie Project and Amy particularly for lack of humanity and morals.

I must thank the Pixie project for giving me the opportunity to be the father of this beautiful creature. She has been in our home for two months and since we adopted her, she has become an important member of our family. We love her so much

Because of Pixie, my family and I have been able to add a wonderful member to our family, Broly. They were so great in matching us with him and even helping with his surgery and his training. Anytime I have a friend who wants to adopt a cat or a dog, I tell them to come here first
