Delaware SPCA, the state's first animal welfare organization, has provided shelter, veterinary care, and adoption services for over a century. Last year, Delaware SPCA placed more than 1,000 animals into loving homes, many of whom required urgent care and medical attention when they came to us. We are also a leading provider of low cost spay/neuter services, have a state-of-the-art wellness clinic for community pets, and offer regular, low-cost vaccination clinics.Adoption Services: Since our founding, Delaware SPCA has found new, loving homes for tens of thousands of homeless animals.
Services
The mission of the Delaware SPCA is to prevent cruelty to animals. We bring our mission to life through programs that provide shelter and adoption for unwanted and homeless pets, reduce pet overpopulation through affordable spay/neuter, and enable pet retention by providing low-cost veterinary services.
Our adoption process is designed to help you find the perfect match in a pet. We'll work with you to ensure that this new lifelong commitment starts off smoothly with a successful transition - for both of you! Whether you are looking for a jogging partner, a cuddle buddy, or a playmate, our matchmaking adoption process was created to find a companion that complements your lifestyle.
By making a generous, tax-deductible gift to Delaware SPCA, you are helping homeless animals and the people who love them. As a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, we do not receive funds from the government, and there is no national SPCA. Our funding comes from generous animal lovers like you who wish to support our lifesaving mission.
There are many items that we need regularly to keep our shelter running and our animals well cared for. Consider donating items routinely used for our animals, either by dropping them off at our shelter or ordering them from our Chewy Wishlist or Amazon Wishlist.

My daughter wanted a kitten so I took her to Delaware SPCA in Newark. We were welcomed with open arms. All of our questions were answered and the staff was extremely knowledgeable. We were immediately drawn to the two kittens pictured below, that we named Velvet and Luna. We only came in to get one kitten but could not bare the thought of separating these two sisters.

Both kittens were spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. I also was able to make an appointment for their booster shots and was given their medical documents before taking them home. The whole process took less than an hour. Our new kittens are adjusting well. They use the litter box and are very playful and cuddly. Our experience was purrrrrrfect!

Terrible! I was told by 3 different people a dog was available. I drove over two hours, arrived before they opened to be first in line, was even given the dog to hold and play with only to then be told someone within the organization had "reserved" the dog by email. Wow! insiders can reserve animals. So much for requiring all adoptions be in person. If your an insider at the SPCA you can reserve an animal any time you like. Poorly handled and mis-guided priorities. I'll never adopt from the SPCA again

I'm thinking about my third dog. Rescue Dogs are great! The facility and the people are also great and professional.

In my years of experience with animal shelters. I have never witnessed the type of compassion exhibited here for the animals. I adopted my cat from here. She is the greatest blessing to my household! After adopting her I never worried because the SPCA was so informative and always available for any of our needs. Wonderfully kept environment for the animals and great professional care takers!

Got my first ever cat from here 13 months ago. I don't remember names well but everyone we so awesome and so helpful and so nice. I explained to them what I was looking for and they helped and were so knowledgeable of the personality of every cat they had. They really matched me with the perfect cat. I think one of the managers sister in law brought him in.

But either way everyone was so happy when I took him it really showed me how much they all cared about what they do. They had named him Buster Brown. I ended up naming him Mookie. He's such a cuddler and also a playful killer. Even my dad, an avid cat disliker most of my life loves him. I'm so happy the people at the Delaware SPCA brought my to Mookie. Thank you everyone.

If there's a 10 star I will give it a 10. Staff are friendly, facility is well organized, adoption process is simple and quick. All the cats are well taken care of, my favorite animal facility so far! We got our cat one week ago, I was hesitated at first since it's going to be our first cat, the cat manager Jennifer is so knowledgeable and encouraging( I am not sure if I would make my decision so quick without her), she literally answered every single questions I had for her. She is definitely a cat expert! We love her. If ever you want a fur friend for you family, don't hesitate to go to Delaware SPCA, you will never regret it!

We visited for the first time on a very busy Saturday so we were there about an hour before being called but we didn't mind the wait. We were there to adopt 1 or 2 cats and were in luck as they had a bonded pair of siblings. The staff were very knowledgeable about each and every animal and could tell us anything we asked, which was very refreshing and helped up immensely in deciding that the pair were a good fit for us.

We were able to take them home that day and they are already making themselves at home. We are very pleased with our experience and our new furry family members Nick and Jess. Definitely recommend.

I took my dog to get vaccinated. Stanton lactation was having a 9-11 drive through vaccines for a lot cheaper than a vet place. Everyone was very friendly, considering the heat. Being 7th in line, we were in and out of there in less than 20 min. Great people, great prices! Chloe was adopted from Stanton shelter in August of 2019.

I adopted a dog. He was sick and I had to take him to a vet shortly after. I spent a fortune on him, clothes, playpen, toy's, coach, bed's and did everything I could for this animal. But he was a mean dog and bite me. Ok, that's not there fought but letting people adopt animal's SICK one's is. So I had to take him back and wrote a bad review. a very nice Man called me after reading that review and said he was very sorry that I was treated like that.

Look on the website and when I find a Dog I want. So I looked for a while and found one. Dog's name was Faith. I called and told them that I was coming in for her. I got a rude remark that well we can't hold her for you. I said that I just told you I just said I was on my way. I got there after a long drive and they told me I couldn't adopt this dog without getting this hugh dog with her.

I said well I called before I came, don't you think it would have been a good time to tell me that? I was very upset. I would gladly have taken him too if I had a fenched in yard. So it wouldn't be fare to the dog. So to make a long long story shorter I then adopted 2 Kittens. Well, the one is vey sick, I had him there once right after I got him.

And said there is something wrong with him but I don't know what's going. They gave me an appointment for tomorrow at 9:30 am. My cat yesterday just laid around all day. That's not like him. Called and said he needs to be seen right away. His gums are white. Now I'm not a Vet but I know enough to know that's a really bad sign.

So they are going to take him in today at Berwyn Md. Vet. All I have to say is I only had these 2 kitten's not even a month. I got the one and they said this other one and her where really really close. So I got them both. The one time I told my Female right after I got them. They said she is a male not a female. Is that going to be a problem.

I said no I love him already. So for this VERY long SAD story about the Georgetown Del ASPCA I'm telling you something has to be done about there RUDE way's and not listening to you when you call for HELP and you JUST adopted them. Sincerely, Linda Schneebele

I wish I could give a zero because this wholw experience sucked. I went into the new PetSmart for dog food and came out with a dog. I've been thinking my other dog needed a friend and this was a cute Beagle mix and very friendly and within two days he had kennel cough which led to pneumonia. He also had just been neutered and was very infected.

I spent almost $1,000 on this animal. He shouldn't have been put up for adoption so soon. I don't want to denigrate the whole shelter system but you have to be careful when you adopt a dog in such a chaotic climate. Barkley is now on the mend thankfully. I would stay away from the Georgetown shelter as I've heard it's a dump.

I took my cat here to be put to sleep and Colin helped me by counseling me through the process. He was super nice and kept talking which helped me not to cry much. I totally admire people like him who take care of so many animals and allow people to keep them as pets. I hope everyone will support the SPCA and the great work they do.
