We're excited to re-vamp our Humane Society Newsletter! Paws and Claws will be published twice a year and sent out through email. Our newsletter used to go out quarterly, but since our social media and website are so active, we thought it'll be bigger and better just twice a year. Paper copies will be available upon request. Our shelter is overcrowded and we are in desperate need of foster families. If you are interested in being our hero and becoming a foster, please fill out the application and send it to [email protected].

Services
The Humane Society of Wicomico County has worked to match homeless animals with their forever families for over 50 years. We are an open-admission shelter which means any lost, found, stray, injured, neglected, abandoned, or surrendered animal from our county in need of refuge will not be turned away.
If you call and receive voicemail, please leave a message. Animal Control will not receive your complaint unless you leave a message. Officers are often out on dangerous calls or rescuing animals from potentially deadly situations that may take priority over other instances. Your call will be returned when the Animal Control Officers return to the office.
Many of our animals that come to us came from unstable or neglectful living environments. These animals need the time, love, and care of their new adopter and for their adopter to be patient throughout the process. Adopting an animal does help our shelter, but we want you to be fully prepared for the big lifestyle change it will be on your family.
We are always looking for foster families to help us provide care for animals outside of a shelter environment. As a foster, you can choose if you'd like to take a litter of bottle baby kittens, rehab a pup, or even take a dog for a field trip out of the kennel for a day! If you are looking for pet but aren't 100% ready for a lifetime commitment, the temporary element of fostering may be perfect for you. If you are fostering, HSWC must be advised of any medical concerns as they are still our property.

I was adopted by Opal, now Sugar. I am so blessed to have her in my life. She is such a good fur baby. The staff were incredible, such a smooth process and so friendly and helpful. I and Sugar are beyond happy! Please adopt and do not shop! There are so many wonderful animals looking to give lots of love at your local shelters.

Very nice people who are fur babies angels. Thank you for everything you do for the pups and kitties. We were so happy to meet everyone on Friday when we adopted Teddy. We absolutely fell in love with him. Thank you for making this such a wonderful adoption.

We have taken in several pets from here over the years. We have also taken advantage of the spay/neuter program. The staff gets friendlier with every visit.

Great! Everyone is so nice and friendly. They are great with the animals! We had such a wonderful experience Adopting our dog Toby, (formally Troy.) I am handicapped and Toby is learning 'very quickly' I might add, to work with me and my walker, and doing an Awesome job!

The Feline area is open to the public again. You can also walk the dogs but the staff brings the happy pooch out to the lobby for you to walk. The dog area is still currently closed.

Love that the general public can go walk dogs there! However they do have an evil witch that works there who will be quick to snap at you like a ferocious dog if you ask what the dogs name is that she walks that is not available to adopt! So for your own safety don't come near this lady because she may either bite or pee on your leg!

I dropped my cat, Sassy, off at 9am after being there at 8:30am, because those were my instructions. They were all business and seemed perturbed by my wanting to stay with her until they took her into the back. When we picked her up at 4:30pm, she was unresponsive and cold. We were told that she was having trouble coming out from the anesthesia. Looking at the paperwork later, I think they gave her too much anesthesia because they had her weight as 6lbs and she is barely 5lbs.

She was unresponsive all night and peed on herself because she was unable to really come out of it and unable to walk. We were given special instructions on how to take care of her and they did seem concerned. Her incision was clean and beautiful. After about three days she finally seemed more like herself and she is making a full recovery.

Thank you Humane Society of Wicomico County! We got our girl from the Wicomico County Humane Society and we had an awesome experience! We participated in the Foster to Adopt program to ensure that she was a good fit for our family. The staff at this Humane Society are great; checking in on her often, providing for her needs until we officially adopted her, being very excited to see her when she came to visit, etc.

They did everything possible to ensure she and we had a positive foster/adopt situation. They even checked on her after we officially adopted her, during the COVID-19 quarantine! They were great, she is great, and we are super pleased with our decision to Adopt a dog from the Humane Society of Wicomico County! We sure do love our Brynley!
