Services
Thank you for visiting our website and for taking a little time to read about us! WildBirdsOnline.com is an extension of our retail business, The Wild Bird Store. We are located in Tucson, Arizona and have been in business for over twenty five years. The Wild Bird Store is family owned and operated, independent of any franchise.
Many of our original designs were created in response to customer requests. When our customers outline their backyard feeder problems, we listen carefully and develop solutions for them with field-tested feeders that are proven effective. Our feeders are practical and functional, yet well designed and attractive.
We designed our Songbird Feeders to keep out the larger and more aggressive ground feeders such as Dove and Pigeon. The more exotic of the songbirds (such as Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxia, and Grosebeaks) are somewhat wary, timid birds. They will be more comfortable at feeders that have less competition. All of the Songbird feeders are meant for Cardinals and smaller sized birds (Finches, Sparrows, Chickadees, Buntings, etc.). We see the Cardinals and Pyrrhuloxia two to three times more often on our Songbird feeders than we do on normal tube type feeders!
If you had to choose just one food for birds, one they would not only survive on, but actually thrive on, Nuts 'n' Bugs is it! Created from a recipe of ground peanuts and dehydrated insects (over 1000 per pound), it has calcium, soybean meal, and rendered suet to bring in insect and nut eating birds.

The most wonderful store! Beautiful, handmade bird feeders, high-quality bird food (that the birds in my area seem to love!), and great people running it. I turned into a bird-lover because of this store! :)

It's an interesting place with two resident cats (no birds live there.) I go for seed blocks but enjoy perusing original art and Talavera ceramics. It's a friendly shop. I'll continue to bring my business there.

Justin's store is as rare a find as a meadowlark in the snow. He sells all kinds of handmade bird feeders and beautiful garden objects. His bins are filled with varieties of bird seed guaranteed to make your backyard a feeding paradise. Recently, I purchased several handmade cards of beautifully sketched wildlife by local artisans. Come visit and say Helen sent you!

I walked in not too sure what I wanted feeder wise, I knew I wanted seed though lol. I unfortunately don't remember the wonderful lady that helped me, she was very knowledgeable and made my visit quick and easy! Not to mention she was so sweet and kind. I will definitely make this my regular bird feed stop.

They have really nice stuff here. Hand carved bird feeders as well as less expensive ones too. They also have a nice selection of bird seed.

They were so helpful during quarantine. I was able to buy a new feeder and sing bird feed. They brought it out to my car. It's delightful during times like this to sit in my backyard and listen to the birds

My husband LOVED the bird feeder that I bought him for our anniversary (made in-house!) and the house finches in our neighborhood can't get enough of the songbird mix. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend this store!

I love this store and highly recommend coming here for all your bird needs! The Couple that own the store are very personable and extremely knowledgeable about birds, food and great about giving you tips for your whatever bird habitat you want to create. They make their own food blends that are top quality and the Hummingbird mix is the best around!

They also have beautiful hand crafted bird houses and unique habitats made by local artists. I love that it is a family business and I feel they truly appreciate the patronage. You will spend a bit more here but the quality and supporting a local, family owned business is worth it! Make it a stop even to just look or have bird questions, you will not be disappointed!

Not just feeders, but bird food made locally by the Friedman's as well as feeders. Most importantly, knowledge. We added three recommended feeders: press in for nuts 'n Bugs, sock for black nijer seed, and a nut block to our hummingbird feeders and had numerous birds (cactus wrens, thrashers, house finches and lesser goldfinchs, cardinals) the next day.

These gracious hosts helped me identify a northern goshawk recently. I gave them the color and pattern and they instantly narrowed down the options. when I returned to Sierra Vista I documented the altitude I was at and referenced the guide I bought in the shop. They have a bevy of knowledge on hand and have a nice variety of quality guides as well. Great store experience and a new raptor confirmed on my life list.

Love this family owned shop. The store was started by Justin's dad and he and his cousin Matt carry on the family business. These guys know a lot about birds and caring for wild birds. I have been a birder for a long time and really enjoy talking to these guys and the fact that I can buy feeders that they design and fabricate on-site makes me happy. Keeping the money we spend local is a true rarity these days. This shop is a home run.

I stopped by here out of curiosity after eating at the Egg Connection in the same strip mall. The son of the owner, I forget his name, was on shift. He was very personable, knowledgable, courteous, and knew the products! I wasn't going to buy anything but he sparked my interest and caved. I'll be back. I'll probably be a very lucrative repeat customer. More people should hear about this place. It's really fantastic!

I drove from San Diego to Tucson to buy bird blocks to feed the quail in my backyard. I ordered 10 of the 25 lb blocks and was told I would get a 10% discount for that quantity. When I got home and opened the first box it was full of little bugs. So were several others. I also noticed my AmEx bill did not reflect the promised discount but was so discussed with the whole event decided "move on" so as to not be more stressed by these people. josh is the guy I talked to when I first called. BE CAREFUL DEALING WITH THIS STORE.

Great store, lots of expertise & I agree with the other two reviewers about the loquaciousness of the owner. You just have to go without being in hurry to get anywhere else because he will talk forever. The thing is, I don't know a thing about birds so it's a good education, but it's hard to actually get away from the shop. I don't think the owner has any idea how difficult this is for people to deal with, as a lot of customers just want to buy their stuff and go on to their next errand.

Hope the over talkativeness doesn't hurt his business. The shop is close to my house and I know all questions will be answered so I will remain a customer. Despite my lack of bird knowledge, it's obvious the feeders are of high quality & there is a large selection, and I have no complaints about the sunflower seeds or "nuts n bugs" feed I bought - though I did not care for the latter product as it took too long to load up the feeder and the bin of "nuts n bugs" took up too much room in my refrigerator.

Best bird store ever! They've got it all. amazing hand painted locally made feeders. as well as standard feeders, bird houses, and etc for all types of birds. Everyone is very knowledgable and extremely helpful, everything from helping me pick out products to loading my car up. I've never been disappointed with their excellent customer service. All their bird feed is made in house. if you are ever in the area come in and check it out. you might just end up walking out with something special

I had no idea how little I knew about birds until I stopped here to look at hummingbird feeders. Jon and his staff are really experts and if you want to attract birds to your yard and feed them well and not bother with the cheap stuff offered elsewhere, shop here and don't waste your time elsewhere. Be prepared to spend some time here and get an education every time you come in. Spend your money here, you'll truly support a local business run by people who are passionate about what they do.

In looking at reviews, I had to laugh. This store has everything, however, the owner is fanatical. How was I to know, I was like a visitor to a Pentecostal church on Easter Sunday. He wanted to save my bird loving soul with everything he had in him. I too can attest, the owner did not want to ring up my order, until he was done saying his piece. He actually told me "sugar has a bitter aftertaste." With that alone I looked at my husband and he at me, knowing that SUGAR couldn't possibly have a bitter after taste to a hummingbird.let alone to a human.

Then I was told that if I followed the directions in making hummingbird nectar (the recipe in the box for the hummingbird feeder) with sugar and water I'd be killing the hummingbirds by shortening their lifespan DRAMATICALLY. So just know if you need anything bird related, this is the MECCA of stores, but the preacher IS IN.

I had the exact same experience. When I tried to redirect his oration in an effort to find out what I wanted to know and having already spent 30' there, he said, verbatim, "let's finish one topic before we move to another." When i tried to get away from the computer as he showed me his blog, he looked wounded: "oh, so we're done with that, then?" I am not averse to spending time, energy, and money on attracting target species to my yard; I am not looking for fastest, cheapest, crappiest dove food; I am not completely ignorant of birding and habitat considerations (250 hrs volunteering at Desert Museum).

It will be hard to go back. I will make sure he is not working, and I will look for alternatives. I do not doubt his expertise, the impressive quality of his products, or his passion for birding. But people skills: 0. I suggest a different public interface.

I love this store. Whenever I need anything for birding, this is where I come. Today I needed to go stock up on thistle for my backyard feeder. The Wild Bird Store is a mom and pop family-owned and family-run business. 80% of what they sell is made locally and 1/2 of THAT is made by the owner, Jon Friedman. Their hummingbird nectar is the highest-rated in the country for being the closed to the natural nectar the hummers eat.

They are the only manufacturer in the U.S.A. of insect meal. All seed mixes are Jon's mixes. They get only organic seed from organic farms. You'd think you would pay a lot more for these high quality products but you don't. Their prices are competitive with commercial ones you find in the big box stores and yet The Wild Bird Store's products are fresher and higher quality.

Every week of the year their seeds are blended so what you buy in the store is going to be fresh. Everybody who works in this store has long experience with birding, some even with over 30 years behind those binoculars. They are experts in birds that are found in Southern Arizona and they write and publish articles all year. You can sign up for a free newsletter via their website and you can also join their Discount Club for a small fee to be able to get additional discounts on products in the store all year long. If you love birds, check out this wonderful store. Jon and his family and staff welcome you!
