Windy City Parrot Sensible Security Locks were developed out of necessity. We have nine parrots of our own and had the problem of them swinging the food door latches out of their way and popping out the food door. We would come home to find our Scarlet Macaw on top of another cage. Thankfully, no one ever suffered injury. Use as hand toys or place on perches or other toys.

Good deals, fresh seeds and foods. Really fast shipping. They also have a lot of instruction and information on care and feeding of birds.

First time going in, felt very welcome and was very impressed, the owner was super helpful and seemed like a generally good person, selection was on the smaller side but top quality, plenty of options for building your own toys, food selection is amazing and I found so many treats for my little sun conure and budgies, will absolutely be recommending this place to anyone with parrots of any size!

I've been a happy customer of Windy City Parrot for about fifteen years now, and it's about time I wrote a review of how terrific a company they are. My bird is picky. (I now understand what I put my grandma through when I was a boy.) WCP has always been great about having good variety of product, and have always been willing to order in special items, so my little one can always get the specific brand(s) he'll eat.

The owners are lovely people and have always been great about offering their knowledge when asked. I've learned a lot from them about how to enrich and care for my cockatiel. I wouldn't want to shop anywhere else.

I shopped at this place online and at their location in Chicago for many years. I lived in the suburbs and would make the long drive specifically to go to this store because I wanted to support a local business. Then a few years ago, I had an incredibly nasty interaction with Mitch on their Facebook page. He had written some post about how avian vets don't know what they're doing, they're terrible and trying to kill your birds for money etc., and everyone should just listen to him instead because he knows more than they do. (I suspect they might have been more amenable to working with the vet who had a problem with a product if she WEREN'T a veterinarian, to be completely honest, because that was how high the level of hostility is to veterinary professionals.) I politely objected to this.

He seemed to just lose his mind and was extremely nasty, rude, and demeaning right off the bat. Honestly, he seems like a very unstable individual and I cannot understand why he interacts with customers in any way when he is temperamentally incapable of behaving professionally. I couldn't believe the level of unprofessionalism when I was very deliberately and clearly not being inflammatory or combative at all.

I now work in customer service and I don't even behave like that to customers who ARE inflammatory or combative. It was just so bizarre. He explicitly didn't care that he was losing a customer with his wildly unprofessional behavior. Apparently I should have known he was like that because he has always been like that, and any real long-time loyal customer would have known that, and he didn't need my business anyway.

And as you can see from some of the reviews here, I'm not the only one who has had this kind of interaction with Mitch. He's been like that to other long-term customers as well. It sounds like from the reviews he is perfectly nice to people who defer to him in all things and bolster his apparently massive ego, but if you say, "I don't agree with you, " get ready to have your head immediately torn off and to be told that they don't need your business. It's deeply messed up.

If you can do without your customers--including and especially your loyal customers who have been shopping with you for 10 years or more--then I guess you really can do without your customers. I've been shopping at Petsmart and Chewy ever since. Much better service, and particularly Chewy is great at making their customers feel valued despite being such a large business. At the very least, no one is going to go out of their way to alienate you at a chain store.

As a veterinarian, I would STRONGLY caution any bird owner against purchasing any products from Windy City Parrot. They sent me a product I had ordered online that was clearly defective, and then not only insisted the broken item was not defective, but also refused to offer me the option to return or exchange it free of shipping charges. I strongly suspect this item was already purchased and returned as defective by a former customer. Please DO NOT waste your money, jeopardize your birds' health, and give yourself headaches and hassles trying to do business with Windy City Parrot.

I've been ordering food and toys for my African Grey parrot here for years. Even one time when I was living out of the US for a year, they shipped a cage to the country where I was living. Great service and great selection of toys!

Ordered online but had a slight issue with the product. Catherine was on top of it and things were resolved at lightning speed. Very happy with the items I ordered and the very fast and attentive service. I look forward to doing business with them again.

I've walked past this shop for years (probably over a decade) but having never owned a parrot or flying friend had no reason to stop in. Then my friend comes over and tries to give my chinchilla more water (it wasn't low and I had just filled it a couple hours before they came ). So of course they dropped it and it broke. Great, can't wait for two day shipping because chins need water.

So I'm looking for a local pet shop and everything is either far away, expensive, or caters to primarily dogs and cats. Remember that Windy City Parrot is right down the street. Check the website and YES! Jim the chinchilla is saved! So I walk down to the shop (luckily I had the day off because they do have specific hours) and am met by the nicest lady ever!

We discuss the different options and I decide on this cool Snapple bottle one. Ok I could go for a Snapple or a mickey's (fits most wide mouth bottles) and she tells me that Snapple switched over to plastic BUT she had extra glass ones so she gives me one of those! Great customer experience! I'll be telling anyone I know with a bird to check it out and might even go back to see if some of the toys can be used for chins.

Very knowledgeable owner that was able to answer questions about my lovebird and refer me to a place to get his nails clipped. They also had a great selection of food and supplies. Everything that you'd want in a specialty shop.

I love this store. They have just about everything--or know where to find it. Really personal service when I've had questions. And they ship orders instantly. I also enjoy Mitch's weekly newsletters.

I'm excited to finally have had the time to check Windy City Parrot out. Initially, I went to ask about cages but discovered that they had an unbelievable variety of quality bird products including, but not limited to, toys, cage accessories, vitamins, and food. The prices and variety of items are significantly better than the chain stores. I have a 34 year old African Grey.

After "And Feathers and Things" closed on Fullerton, I've put up with the after-thought aisles of stale and expensive parrot food at Petco and Petsmart. I'm so relieved to finally have a place to buy/order quality, fresh food! I opened the bags I bought a couple of days ago and right away I could see and smell the difference. It's worth the trip and I found the staff very friendly and helpful.

If you ever get the chance to actually SEE this place, it's a bird lovers paradise, you're going to be very happy you did. Not only do they have EVERY kind of food: seed, pellets, name brands, and some fun ones not seen at conventional pet shops, but also a bazillion types of toys for every size bird. And/Or you can buy 'parts' and DIY. Cathy is so delightful and helpful PLUS the music is always upbeat: you'll be singing & dancing! Fortunately I'm only 1/2h away, but I'd drive a hundred miles to experience this again. All for my 16yo Congo African Grey, Bubba.

I've never been to WCP's physical store but frequently purchase food and miscellaneous supplies from their website. I especially love that they always have the full line of Goldenfeast products. WCP's customer service has always been top notch and shipping is ultra quick. Between asking direct questions and reading his blog posts, Mitch has been able to answer questions that even my vet didn't really have full answers to. I hope that WCP continues to do well because they're really fantastic!

As a new parrot owner of an adopted bird, I required a lot of help. I have been working with the owners for over ten years now. They have been so helpful, they are more like one of my friends, than just owners of a great, parrot supply store. They have helped me with cages, stands, toys, lights and food. I think it's a terrific store.

Well, now after NOT responding to my emails, the owners of this company are now slandering me on social media, while continuing to suppress my reviews and comments. One of my friends (who still gets their emails) said they had an article on their blog and newsletter on the nets in which they claim "we have no negative feedback from any of our customers about bird climbing nets." I replied to this lie and if you read through the comments, you will see Mitch replies and ADMITS they DID HAVE my negative feedback but uses the excuse that " we assumed it was more Bonnie Jay lies" even though I have NO CONNECTION TO BONNIE JAY aside from trying to purchase HER COMPANY'S net - as in the nets that were PICTURED on the WCP website.

His obsession with this woman smacks of mental illness and he goes on to slander AND THREATEN me by stating "As far as I'm concerned - everything you're saying a suspect because it is the one and only complaint that we have on record for an Aronico net appears that you are in collusion with Bonnie Jay - so tread lightly as you may become part of a very large lawsuit". I posted a reply comment to his, and - no surprise here - it was never published. RUN, RUN FAR FAR AWAY from this business!

Came in here looking for a cage and the woman was super helpful. She explained that she can arrange for an in-store pick-up of the cage since they had to order their cages from off-site. By picking up the cage myself she knocked off a bunch off the price that would normally cover the shipping. She also talked me into sizing down, as I had originally looked at a 36x24 cage for a conure, which she said might be overkill especially as I had already explained we were in an apartment.

I placed my order on Monday and it came in on Wednesday. She loaded the heavy boxes into my car and even switched out the deep dishes that came with the cage to shallower ones that would be better for a smaller bird. If you need bird supplies, this is the place to go! One of the best customer service experiences I've had in a while. I will definitely be giving them my business.

I order things exclusively online from this store since I live in Minnesota, so I can't tell you about the in-store service, but I can tell you how happy I am with the online services. I can say honestly, the prices from this store are hard to beat anywhere else, especially with the big brand pet stores. They also seem incredibly knowledgeable on the health and safety of birds.

And I like that they ask what type of bird you have and send related emails. Shipping is also free for certain priced orders and packages ship same-day or next-day. It may be where I am located, but I receive my purchases in one to two days. So far, very happy with the products and services of this business.

4 reasons to shop at Windy City Parrot: (1) GREAT VALUE - good quality at a good price; (2) AWESOME selection, constantly being improved and added-to, of everything your parrot could want; (2) FABULOUS customer service - fast, accurate, shipping, responsive customer service people, informative and amusing posts; (3) BUY FROM A LOCAL, SMALL BUSINESS THAT CARES ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS, AND NOT AN EXPLOITATIVE, HEARTLESS CORPORATE PET SUPPLY CHAIN THAT TREATS THEM LIKE OBJECTS! We are so lucky to have a business like Windy City Parrot, let's keep them around :)

I first went to the Windy City Parrot store a few years ago when I was looking for some toys for my chinchillas. They had such a wide variety of chinchilla-friendly toys (meaning, without plastic parts) at reasonable prices, AND supplies I was able to purchase to make my own toys. I recently adopted a parrot from a rescue, and the cage we purchased from him was missing a metal food cup from the top of his playpen.

I searched every local pet store I could (franchises as well as family-owned pet stores) and couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up contacting the manufacturer of the cage and was told each dish would cost me $9.50 + $15 s&h. I found the SAME dishes at Windy City Parrot for $7. and I DIDN'T get gouged on the s&h. I ended up ordering 3 dishes from Windy City Parrot and a small toy for a better value than I would have gotten from the manufacturer.

The package only took 2 days to get here, even though I chose Standard Shipping. I was really surprised! I also like that Windy City Parrot offers discounts for new customers (15%) and that they work with rescues so that a part of your order goes back to the rescue (5% I believe when you go through a link on the rescue's page). I definitely recommend Windy City Parrot for all small animal and bird lovers!

Both me and Rex (my Timneh) love Windy City! Fun, great, inexpensive selection of parrot toys. I loved their first location - much more retail-y, and they had parties for which you could bring your bird! But, despite the new location's limited hours, I go for fun selections. Mitch and Katherine are totally tapped into the crazy bird community too, so if you need anything, they can help point you in a direction. And they never carried live parrots, so no one got hurt in that fire :) Said they had thought about it, but thankfully didn't go there!

I'd frequented this bird supply shop when it was still located on N. Milwaukee Ave. I see from the first review that the relocation was the result of a fire. How sad that some of the birds were lost. Anyway, after having been back in the N. Milwaukee area and not finding the store where I expected it to be, I called the free 411 number (no other way to go.great service!) and was told by the lady who answered at Windy City Parrot that they had moved over a year ago.

The new location was not convenient for me and I knew they had a website (http://www.windycityparrot.com/), so I went home and placed an order there (free standard shipping on orders over $35!). The order was placed at 10:22 AM. By 1:54 PM I received an e-mail notification (with UPS tracking link.another plus!) that my order had been shipped. Wow, that was fast!

That was Wednesday. The order shows as due to arrive today, Thursday. I don't think I've ever had such speedy service with an online order. This store carries the best in bird food, both natural varieties as well as the food recommended by a lineolated parakeet (that's my Iri!) breeder and educator at Brookfield Zoo, Jason Crean (http://www.beaksbirdhouse.com/index2.html). FYI: I now see on their site that they no longer carry any live birds.
