Our main goal in everything that we do as an organization is to stay true to our mission: "To reduce the number of homeless pets through adoption, rescue, and spay and neuter programs." If you've lost your pet, please visit the Humane Society of Yuma in-person as soon as possible. Each month, hundreds of lost dogs & cats find temporary, safe shelter with us.

Kitten season is the time of year when cats give birth to litters of kittens that flood our local animal shelter. It normally starts early spring, peaks in summer and ends in the fall and the Humane Society of Yuma struggles to try and save as many as possible.
Services
To reduce the number of homeless pets through adoption, rescue, and spay and neuter programs. To ensure that each animal has adequate space, all larger cages and tubs will always be used first. Weather permitting, kennel doors will remain open to allow the animals to breathe fresh air. Every animal will be handled and cared for with patience.
David is happily married to his wife, Lisa of 28 years. Together they have two kids, Josh and Sierra, five dogs, two cats (Roscoe, Diesel, Auto, Blue, Pom Pom, Mittens and Callie) and two grandchildren. He is also a proud US Army Veteran, serving in Operation Desert Storm. Now David and his family own 3:10 Fleet Service and manage 14 employees.
Food for the program is donated to the HSOY by the generosity of our community; therefore, we cannot guarantee that food is always available. Pet food amounts will be determined by the weight of your animals. By becoming a member of the program, you agree to have your pet(s) spayed/neutered within two months of joining the program.
The Humane Society of Yuma operates a spay and neuter clinic where we offer spay and neuter at reduced costs. To learn more about spay and neuter and its benefits, visit our page on the issue of pet overpopulation. All owners must show proof of pet's vaccinations or they can be administered the day of surgery. Please see fees above. The Humane Society of Yuma depends on private funding i.e.

I adopted my baby Sky, a sweet little stray, from here. The people were great and got back to my inquiry within a couple of business days with a meet and greet date and time. They were completely honest, answered all my questions I had, and let me "browse" the kennels just so I can be sure about my choice. The place was fairly clean and the staff do love and care about the animals.

There is a yard for the Meet-and-Greet to play with and meet your dog. They also have very good customer service (something San Diego Humane Society doesn't have) They provide you with a weekish supply of their food, digital and physical copies of their medical history, and info to receive free 30-day trial of Pet Insurance. It's up to you as the new owner to activate it ASAP and if you don't, that's your fault.

I came from San Diego to get Sky, so the reviews I've seen about HSOY not allowing you to adopt from San Diego is not true and is the fault and misunderstanding of you, the customer. Filling out the paperwork and updating her microchip was quick and easy. After I decided Sky was the one I wanted to take home, everything else took 30-45 mins. I just want to say thank you to the team for letting me bring home Sky.

She is the best addition to my little family. She loves everyone who gives her loves but she is definitely my dog as she will get up to follow me everytime I leave the room and sticks near me after she's had enough attention from everyone else. All in all, it was a super positive experience. Always adopt!

The place is run by workers and volunteers who really care. It was clean and tidy when arriving. I originally went to foster but our foster quickly became part of our family. That may not have happened if they didn't take the time to know the dogs and find the perfect one for our family. If you are unsure if a dog would be a good fit or not for your family, I am sure Kevin would know. He was very knowledgeable about each of the dogs we saw. I am grateful to everyone who is there.

We recently found the newest member of our family at The Humane Society of Yuma. The adoption process was easy going and the staff was very kind. Our new fur baby adapted very well to his new home and family. We are so happy we decided to stop here. It was a pleasant experience overall. We hope every animal finds their forever home soon. You guys are doing a good job.

SUBJECT: THINK TWICE BEFORE DONATING TO THE YUMA HUMANE SOICIETY UNTIL THEY CHANGE POLICIES: I had a terrible exp. on 2/10/22 --I'm writing at the suggestion of the National Human Society org. **Short history: Last week I took in an extremely adoptable kitten approx. 8 months old. She showed up one day when visiting a neighbor and had obviously been dumped as she wanted to get into my truck; be picked up and was a purr-machine. --I then got Covid shortly thereafter and was sick in bed for a month.

However I got out of my sick bed drove 2 miles 3X a week to feed her and pick her up, talk to her so she would remain adoptable and not become feral or leave her on the streets. --I was finally able to drive her across town to the H/Soc and was told a Bold Face Lie by a 20 something guy, "we only accept injured or sick animals.".and "If I didn't like their policies, DON'T come back, call Animal Control." --I speak with authority: I have taken in about 18 kittens in the last 3 years, have trapped about 8 -10 TNRs just in a small housing area.

I have volunteered there and gone through their training. Have given quite a lot of money to them directly and through the Amzn "smile program." I also work full time. --After they became a "No Kill Shelter" policies started changing.if you take in fewer animals, and let Animal Control euthanize animals, then it's easier to stay a No Kill Shelter.and probably access more funding, just a guess.

It may be a business to them.it is NOT to our community. --Somehow they have lost their way of serving the community who supports them and gives them hundreds of thousands of $$ yearly; the city also gives them a fair amt of $$, our tax money. Letting animals run the streets so they can claim to be a No Kill shelter.and letting Animal Control euthanize them IS NOT THE ANSWER.

The current policy NEEDS TO CHANGE NOW. This is NOT a business to create Salaries. It's business is to serve the Yuma community and save animals! --They obviously need to hire much higher quality people and train them better. Or maybe compassion needs to be instituted again as it was a few short years ago. A passionate/caring animal lover.

The HSOY Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Went out of their way with our adoption of two Staffordshire Terriers. We hope all that are looking for a pet will visit them first!

Very nice experience. Of course, the neutering ended up costing more than expected, but staff were extremely friendly and this has to be the nicest animal shelter I have ever been to. If we lived in the area I would definitely use their services again.

On 2/7/22 On this day I spent one hour with NO RESPONSE from their phones. I was trying to adopt a pet. How can these people help others adopt a pet when they cannot even answer the phone. Incompetence at its highest level.

I called in advance and told them that I was interested on adopting a dog. They told me to do the paperwork beforehand. I asked if I could go and see the dog and that I lived in California. The lady told me yes and that I will be able to see the dog that same day. I drove an hour to get there and they rudely told me that the dog had to be neutered 1st and I won't be able to adopt him because I lived in California.

They then told me that there were a lot of people interested for the dog. I go back home and I check their Facebook page and that same day, they posted that they had so many dogs up for adoption and they needed people to adopt them because it was too packed.

They take great care of the animals, saw volunteers out with dogs and people were so friendly! It was a pain filling out forms to see dogs, but so happy that they make sure the animals get an amazing home. Thanks so much for taking care of misplaced animals and finding them a forever home!

I found a cat that had been starving trapped in my dads jet skii, i managed to catch it after a long time and put it in a dog kennel with a towel avoiding scratches. i call animal control thinking they will save this cat and provide all the immediate care it needs, and that's when i see a big fat man get out of this car with a tiny kennel. he then loses the cat i worked so hard to save and gives up looking for it and goes home. he had no cat trap on him and has the audacity to ask ME if i had one. and now there is a starving cat covered in gasoline outside probably going to lick itself and die. I am traumatized at how careless this man handled the situation. He deserves to lose him job. I wish I got his name. I can't sleep now.

Not taking cats. not spaying and neutering anymore. Not answering phones for people to claim or come look at pets. Hours of operation have changed. Workers are rude. So sad.

None of these creatures have balls or eggs. It's a virtue-signalling arm of Planned Parenthood. Any form of reproduction must be throttled.

We adopted a small dog from the Humane Society. It certainly takes perseverance to adopt the kind of dog you want. We kept tabs on line of the dog available and the lost dogs. If lost dogs are not claimed they will come up for adoption. We went down there every other day. We kind of got disheartened as every dog we liked on line when we got there had already been adopted.

We kept trying and eventually everything clicked and we found a dog. One thing I would mention is that the Humane Society does not do blood work on the dogs. When we took our furbuddy to the vet for a check up found she has a tick born illness and had to be put on antibiotics. We are now going to have her checked for heartworm and hope she doesnt have that.

So really what I am saying is there are no guarantees.so be prepared to take on the responsibility of you pet. The dog we adopted is adorable and we are hoping she will be well soon.

Recently my family and I attended the Humane Society of Yuma's Annual Fall Festival with our 2 dogs. The parking had spilled over to the lot across the street and on the side of the road, making it a decent crowd at the festival area. There was lots to see and do; everything from grooming services to doggie treats were available (I ate half a doggie donut; long story) outside adoption services were available inside the main building.

I won a T-shirt from a local radio sponsor and one of our dogs took 1st place for Best Costume! Was there ever a better time to adopt a pet AND enjoy the outdoor festivities? I think not! It was a good time, and worth it!

Very clean, very nicely maintained and friendly staff. The people that work here are very kind hearted and care about the animals. I adopted my dog from here and the adoption process was so organized and enjoyable. Recommend this place for adoptions, found/lost animals and making donations. www. HSOYUMA.com

My dog went missing in the foothills and when I called the HSOY, they told me I would have to come in to see if she was there. I told them I do not have a ride and it would take over 5 hours round trip to take a bus. The girl just laughed and told me she was " So Sorry, but you have a great day, ok" I said I need to know if my dog it there.she told me she would get a supervisor, the supervisor also spent 2o minutes telling me that I had to come in to check for myself.

After all that time and talk from them, she finely look at something and said " oh, we only got one little dog in today" and it was not mine. So they spent over 30 minutes torturing me and my family about the rules we had to follow to find out if they had out dog.when.no they did not have it and could have told us in 5 minutes. This place sucks.they have their priorities screwed up.are they there to help the animals or play some power trip on desperate people looking for their lost dogs?

We came out of that call ever more worried and desperate to find of dog.and now we know that the HSOY is a complete waste of time.they would rather kill your dog them look at a list and tell you it is there or not.

Devastated. One night I was browsing for a new friend on the Human Society of Yumas adoption page. Found one, absolutely fell in love so I did the online application. A day passes and no reply, but I noticed they still put animals up on their site so they must be active. decided to call in the morning but notice that the dog is no longer on the site. "He has been adopted we don't notify you back about online applications" in a snobby tone. Honestly I am disgusted at this, please notify on your site what your application process is and how its done.

There are animals that need homes and you pull this kinda sh**, should be ashamed. Theres no room for rude snobby people to be handling future loving families of the animals.

Took my kitten in because he got in a fight with another cat. The dr assured me that he would be ok and that he was a professional and he wouldn't be sending my cat home if he didn't think it was the right thing to do. I went in wanting to put my cat down because I knew he was in pain and suffering. He didn't eat for 3 days and hardly moved, as I expressed this and more to the dr, he assured me AGAIN that he would be fine. (I was crying at the appointment) Less then 15 hours later my cat passed away.

I called the humane society to speak to someone, I just wanted to express my concerns so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I didn't want anything out of it. I ended up speaking with the dr who told me my cat would be ok. He was extremely rude and wasn't compassionate towards my situation. When I told him my cat had passed away he said "okay. well you were crying at your appointment yesterday" WTF did that have to do with anything?

Yes I was crying, who wouldn't cry over a animal that was clearly in pain? He never once said he was sorry for my loss. He had no sympathy. He didn't care that the cat died. He acted like it was my fault. He had a horrible attitude and tone in his voice when speaking with me. I finally told him "you're being rude and I'm going to hang up now" I went in to stop my cats pain and suffering, the dr told me he would be okay and he wouldn't be sending him home if he didn't think he would be ok.

He said "I'm a professional and I know what I'm doing" Please don't take your animals here, this guy clearly doesn't care and clearly doesn't know what he is doing. I urge whoever is reading this to be aware and be cautious.

The humane society if a facility with different departments. I'm sure there's plenty of good things to say about the Vets and there staff. Unfortunately, my dog of 9 years got out and is nowhere to be found. I'm devastated and when I turned to the humane society for help the two girls at the front desk are very heartless towards customers feelings.

They were cold and wouldn't offer any guidance. Every question I asked was answered with "I'm not sure". They have no compassion what so ever. It's very distasteful the way they represent our community humane society. I've never lost a pet before and I truly thought our humane society could have guided me on things to do and look for in trying to find our family pet. To the director.please train your staff to be humble, kind, informative and above all respectful

I'm sorry this place is an absolute joke the lady I spoke to you on the phone guaranteed that she would be the cheapest to have my dogs in for dental services come to find out their most high price place in town. On another hand the lady was extremely confident that she was the best and not humble at all totally conceded not a place that I want to take my pet considering I value them more than I value any lady that thinks that she knows best.

This is my personal phone experience so I hope you guys have a better personal experience if you guys decide to take your animal there I can only reserve this review for the people that actually care about their loved one as a loved one and not just a piece of animal flesh. Please and I repeat please do not take your pet to this place if you value their care at all please and I repeat please do not take your pet to this place if you value their care at all.

They are very nervy, and have a lot to learn if they want to describe what they do as a "service." They are engaged in extorting people whom have had their pets stolen. If I pay their fees, I'll be out of hundreds of dollars. We didn't lose our pet. It was taken from us when we let him out. He had a collar on but they claim the charm came off. Currently he's being held from us until they extort almost $300 from us. There was no service because our pet was taken, and not lost.

We have now adopted three dogs from Humane Society. They are very helpful when finding a forever home for their dogs. The Petsmart location remembers the dogs they adopt out and say hi to them when you bring them to the store.

Initial impression: Its a big facility, easy to find, plenty of parking, no one greets you, you have to try & find someone just to ask questions. Somewhat clean Pros: There are quite of few dogs & cats that need a home. They look like they are well taken care of. The place is clean & organized. Each dog has his own cage. Cons: Lack of service, seems like the place has no employees or if they do. maybe they were all busy hiding somewhere.

All the dogs we saw were in a cage with their own feces. It smelled really bad. Overall Experience: We went looking to foster a dog but the person in charge does not work weekends. I doubt we'll come back again. anytime soon. With the lack of service. hard to get someone to help us walk a dog or play with one to see if we loved him or her.

Our experience was good! We took our dog "Olaf" there to have him neutered and I did not know he would be there most of the day. It was a positive experience especially for it being our first time there and new to the area. Thank you for all the work you do. We will be returning soon with our other dogs.

I appreciate all the work Humane Society of Yuma does and recognize they are dealing with a community with a lot of stray animals, however it bothers me how many animals the shelter puts down throughout the year. Foothills Veterinary posts the stats of how many animals are brought in versus how many are put down each year and the cat figures in particular will break your heart.

I adopted my cat from them and the experience was easy and pleasant (I went through their Pet Smart location). I understand the shelter can only do so much but wish it would publicize more or find other ways to help the animals of Yuma without having to put so many down each year. Adopt your forever pet, don't buy!
