SAINT FRANCIS SERVICE DOGS is a non-profit organization, whose purpose is to help children and adults with disabilities become more independent and self-sufficient through partnership with a professionally trained service dog. We are also committed to promoting the use and acceptance of service dogs through public and professional education, providing advocacy for service dog partners, and supporting the growth of the service dog industry on a national level.We serve the Commonwealth of Virginia and areas within a three hour drive from the Saint Francis Facility at 8232 Enon Drive, Roanoke, Virginia 24019.

Formed in 1996, Saint Francis Service Dogs is the largest service dog organization in Virginia and is proud to be accredited by Assistance Dogs International. Saint Francis places professionally trained service dogs to assist people with a wide range of disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, joint and/or muscular diseases, multiple sclerosis, brain injury, paralysis, rheumatoid arthritis, and many other conditions. It takes two years and tens of thousands of dollars to raise, train, and place one service dog.

Saint Francis hired an Executive Director and Training Director, transitioning from an all-volunteer organization to a professionally managed organization.

We provide professionally trained dogs to people with physical or developmental disabilities in order to assist them in living a more independent and self-sufficient life. The people we serve may have autism, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis, brain injuries, amputations, paralysis, or many other conditions.
