Purebred Dog Rescue & Adoption Services
Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue has been dedicated to rescuing and rehoming purebred dogs since 1987. Our volunteer-driven organization collaborates with shelters, breed clubs, and individuals to provide breed-specific expertise through every step of the adoption process. We distinguish ourselves through a network of trained Breed Representatives who offer specialized knowledge about specific dog breeds, ensuring informed matches between dogs and adopters. Our three-pronged approach includes rescuing dogs from shelters, referring adopters to available dogs, and educating the public about responsible dog ownership. With no physical office or kennel space, we operate entirely through donations and foster homes, maintaining a lean structure that maximizes our impact.

Our volunteers conduct home checks and provide ongoing support to ensure long-term adoption success. By focusing on purebred dogs, we address a critical need that benefits both shelter systems and dog lovers seeking specific breeds. Our commitment to spaying/neutering all adopted dogs before placement demonstrates our dedication to animal welfare and population control. Through partnerships with local shelters and breed organizations, we create a valuable link that improves adoption outcomes for all parties involved. This enduring mission has made us one of the Pacific Northwest's most reputable dog rescue organizations.

Services
Dog Rescue Services
We rescue unwanted purebred dogs from shelters and private owners. Our volunteer network identifies dogs in need and coordinates their placement into foster care or directly to adopters. This service helps reduce shelter overcrowding while giving purebred dogs a second chance at loving homes.
Breed-Specific Adoption
Our Breed Representatives provide expert guidance for adopting specific dog breeds. They help match adopters with suitable dogs based on breed characteristics, living situations, and lifestyle needs. This specialized approach increases adoption success rates and long-term compatibility between dogs and owners.
Foster Home Program
We rely on qualified foster homes to temporarily care for rescued dogs. Our program provides necessary support while dogs await permanent adoption. Fostering helps dogs transition from shelters to homes while allowing us to assess their behavior and needs.
Dog Owner Education
We promote responsible dog ownership through educational resources about breed-specific care, training, and health needs. Our materials help both new and experienced owners understand proper dog care, improving the quality of life for adopted pets.
Volunteer Opportunities
We offer various volunteer roles including Breed Representatives, foster care providers, and event organizers. Volunteers receive training to support our mission through dog assessments, adoption counseling, and community outreach programs that advance our rescue efforts.

Over the last several years I have adopted 5 senior westies through SPDR and 1 westie mix that wasn't a senior. I have had wonderful experiences with this rescue and appreciate that they put so much effort into putting dogs into homes. Not everyone is fit to adopt a dog with a history, and SPDR has many volunteers with years of experience working with the breed of dog they assist with. You can check them out on Facebook and see how involved the volunteers really are. Karin and Judy are two of the sweetest, most dedicated people I have ever met with regard to rescue. They pull no punches and I appreciate their honesty. I only have love and appreciation for SPDR!

Do they even have dogs? I wrote to them, they responded that I had to fill in a form, which I did. Never heard anything. Nothing. I have a fully fenced yard, work from home, excellent references, and used to show obedience dogs. I think I'm at least qualified to get a response. Who are these uberlords of dogdom? A friend told us to go to the Noah Center in Stanwood, where they have tons of dogs sent from high-kill shelters in other parts of the country. That's where we're going to go. To get an ACTUAL rescue dog. Not some mirage that makes SPDR feel like they can thumb their noses at others.

I have called SPDR several times over the last 5 years. I called them about purebred dogs I found. I find a lot of dogs--50 in the last 20 years. They have only returned my call one time out of 5. I was not surprised to find they had killed a dog in their care whose owner was known and who was trying to get the dog back. The person I did talk was very brusque and I got the impression of "her way or the highway."

Last update. We recently received a letter in the mail stating they have put Flynn/Cody down. So hard to believe when someone was fighting so hard to reunite with him. Pretty cowardly move by Sharron, Claudia and the rest of the SPDR team. Update to the previous post. SPDR has gone behind the true owner and authorities and adopted this dog out. What a shame. There is a lot to learn here about this whole situation both as a dog owner and adoptee.

Keep your information up to date whenever one ounce of information has changed, i.e. Cell phone number, address, switching ownership from kin, etc. For those adopting, please be sure to ask plenty of questions on the dogs history and don't be shy about using the internet to fact check what the rescue organization states. Often times they may try tactics which try to paint a more sob picture or falsify facts to simply get the dog off there hands and into a home. Bottom line: do your research, don't rely on the rescue organization for much. In the meantime stay posted for King5 and Komo running stories on this.
