We offer pre-adoption counseling, post-adoption support, and behavioral assessments to ensure successful matches. All adopted animals receive vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and microchipping.
Pet Food Pantry
This community support program provides free pet food to families facing financial hardship through our Lisa Mitzen Animal Care Center. Available during extended weekday hours, our pantry helps prevent pet relinquishment by ensuring continued care. Donations can be made in-person or through partner locations.
Dog Training
Certified trainers deliver small-class instruction focusing on obedience, socialization, and behavior modification. Personalized attention ensures effective learning for both pets and owners. Classes cover basic commands, leash manners, and addressing common behavioral issues through positive reinforcement techniques.
Humane Education
Our educational programs teach responsible pet care and animal welfare principles to children and adults. Summer camps combine hands-on learning with animal interaction experiences. Curriculum emphasizes empathy development, wildlife conservation, and the importance of spay/neuter programs in controlling pet populations.
Cruelty Investigations
Specialized officers conduct investigations into reported animal cruelty cases throughout the service area. We maintain a public animal abuser registry to protect vulnerable pets and collaborate with law enforcement to prosecute offenders. Our efforts focus on prevention through education and community outreach.

Behave as we are being evaluated. Had adopted one of their dogs after first greet, same day, two years before and wanted a companion dog for him. OH, BUT THEY ARE "EXPERTS". Neurotics needing a power play. Found a great pup in Amish country, picked from a robust litter right before me. Vet papers included. Gorgeous 1 yr old now.

I own a business in the area and I have been very very generous To various organizations within the Capital District. Today I came in and wanted to look at some of the animals that they had here, the door was locked even though the website says that they were open from 12 to 5. One of the workers came out of a side door and immediately said that "we are closed and we are not open to the public" I immediately responded and said that I was here to make a donation and wanted to view some of the animals, I did not tell her how much the donation was.

She immediately said that I would have to come back on Monday and walked away. In the meantime more cars have arrived trying to get in to no avail. Other cars have arrived and are dropping off donations of cat food and dog food with in blue bin outside. Sorry guys. My company is pretty big in the area and I was about to donate $25,000 to you Because I felt the need to be generous today but unfortunately your workers Made it impossible with their attitudes.

Professional, kind staff. Wonderful facility. Lots of options, you're sure to find a new furry friend! Adopted Chip in December 2021 after him spending 8 months there. Did 6 weeks of treating there this winter and just took him back for a visit today to see all the wonderful staff who cared for him last year.
