Call
Halifax County Veterinary Center - Larry D Younger When you arrive call 434-476-2166 and let us know that you have arrived and we will alert you when it is your time to come in. Moose has been coming to our clinic for several years. When he begin displaying trouble getting around and getting up, we recommended him starting the laser therapy treatments.

An assistant or doctor use to have to get Moose out of the car when arriving at the clinic. He would have to be pulled and tugged on to get him to stand up. He would then have to have help again getting in the car to go home.

I went to this vet from a recommendation. I called ahead of time and was told the visit was $30 and the vaccination was $18. I made an appointment all is well there. When I arrived for my 10 am appointment I waited almost 45 minutes outside. Had to call and let them know I had arrived. I assumed this was something still being practiced because of Covid.

No problem I waited. I was finally called in and they put me and my pets in an exam room. A vet tech came in and asked me questions and I told her my concerns. Thinking the entire time that this was going to be addressed by the vet. Waiting another 15 minutes another vet tech came in and said she would take my buddy to be checked. Ok, they don't allow you to go in the exam room with your pet.

I thought that was odd. Ok no problem, waited just maybe 10 minutes and they were back with buddy and then took my doobie. Finally they brought him back then I waited for the vet to come in. He explained to me about Buddy having glaucoma and he would give me medicine for his eye, we continued to talk back and forth, I was able to ask questions and he was polite and answered my concerns.

We talked about doobie s teeth and he said he would give me and estimate, everything is going fine until I get to the checkout. My bill was 215. I was shocked, I asked about the $30 visit and rabies shot which should have been $18 that comes to $48 x 2 should come to $96 the medicine cost $36. So ok, something over $$120. Here they did two tests which came to $41 and on top of that they charged me $50 for the visit instead of $30.

I asked about this and they said is was about an exam. I did not understand that reasoning, so what was the $30 for. I feel that I should have been asked if I wanted those tests. I am on a fixed income so now that appt just ruined my entire budget for this month. I know this is long but it needed addressing. So these are my thoughts, if you go there ask a lot of questions.

They say they are open on Saturdays until noon. Tried calling this morning and there was no one there. I am not amused.

Dr Mallard is exceptional with our horses, very patient and kind and has a wonderful "bed side manner" when it comes to explaining the exact needs of each horse. Pricing is very fair and his level of thoroughness is top notch. Thank you Dr. Mallard from us and all of the horses in our care!

I have been going to this veterinarian for many years the doctors here are great. Not sure what has happened over the last few years but the emergency vet service was cut out and now it's like we have to sit and wait wait wait until someone comes in now to be seen and all of ours are appointments and the dog bathing services has been cut out now.

Not sure on what's next! But other than that it's a good veterinarian place. I would love to give a 5 star but since all this has been cut out it will be a 3. And the prices have skyrocketed now.

I have used Dr. Johnathon Collins for past few years. This month I have stopped at office and left multiple messages to review his prescribed treatment of my Great Pyrenees. He cannot be bothered to return my call and his receptionist has run out of excuses. Go to Chatham Animal Hospital for excellent customer service and best Large animal care in the area.

This is 3rd vet I've taken my dog to in the past 2 months but the first one that appears to know what they're doing and seems to be concerned for his well being. Took real time to actually listen and explain not just act like he went to med school and us lowly lay people couldn't possibly understand. I have a few people drs that could learn a thing or two from Dr. Collins bedside manor.

Wish I had brought my previous fur babies here but I know this is where I will take present and futures ones. Glad I finally found someone competent. my four legged family members are my FAVORITE family members, they deserve the best and I think this is where they'll get it. Also our vet tech Haley was equally awesome. thanks for making this a great vet visit! *EDIT*So I adopted a cat from my local shelter.

Mr Kitty had some very apparent health issues addressed by a "local vet" near my local SPCA but HOW did they miss the kidney issue? This is why I use a vet almost 30 miles away. It's not rote for them. Although I will say the handout I got here on "flea cintrol" for a cat that CAN'T be treated due to kidney issues, AT THIS TIME, is totally wrong its important to educate or update your pamphlet. PS- the best way to control a "flea infestation". inside house, is to VACUUM 2x a day EVERYDAY like you have OCD!

Plus empty vacuum in trash bag, OUTSIDE, away from from your house. especially if you don't wish to bomb or hire an expensive pest control company. Yes. that's how i avoided those 2 things in the past.

This clinic is amazing! I am so glad I went here with my rescue Great Dane Karma. Instead of another vet I called who sounded like I inconvenienced her by calling. They instantly showed Karma love and care she craves so badly especially Taylor the Vet Asst. Karma's 10yrs old which is good for a Great Dane in the first place. Dr. Collins is superb.

After all the tests and exam he came in and 1st let us know about 2 problems we weren't aware of. 2nd instead of wasting more money on diagnostics of apparent problems then the money to treat. We use that money and start treating the problems and make her comfortable faster. The bill was extremely reasonable. Most of the bulk was medicine which I'm sure once we get Karma to a maintenance status, we can change to some cheaper options.

We have already made an appointment for the 2nd of our 8dogs, Jorja. She's the youngest. All the rest will be following in line. Please make an appointment for your furbaby today if they need a vet! Everyone is friendly, courteous, and wonderful with animals. I can't say enough about this clinic. I highly recommend them.

Avoid this place at all costs. Been a patient of this business with my puppy 12 years ago. Now I have a 2 year old German Shepherd and they refuse to spay her. Even after having a discussion with the vet prior, he even explained how he would do it microscopically. I'll assume they're totally incompetent and/or prejudiced. And to top it off they're trying to get me to buy heart worm and flea medicine from them!

I'll drive 2 hours somewhere else before I'll buy another thing from them. Be aware of vets who don't like big beautiful dogs, something wrong there and who knows what your pet will suffer through. Sincerely, Susan Hendley

Everyone is so accommodating and friendly. Really is a great place. Doctor took a great deal of time with us to ensure we had discussed everything and answered any questions.

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness I understand covid is a real concern but not accepting new patients is ridiculous. Masks, social distancing, and now vaccines exist. I can only imagine your business will dwindle in time. Animals don't live forever.

We have been entrusting our babies to HCVC for care for years. They have seen them through snakebite, cancer, euthanasia, severe skin allergies, teeth cleanings, and so many other problems. We have always appreciated their care and caring at the time we brought our babies in to always checking on them the next day. The vets and all staff always treat us with respect. We are very grateful to them for all they have done. God bless.

They are reasonable with prices and out of all the vets in the area this is the place to go for fur babies. They have always been courteous and caring towards my dogs. Anytime I have had a problem they are only a phone call away and will get you seen if need be. Dr Collins I have seen work outside the office throughout Halifax County and he compassionate as well. A good all around place.
