We are looking for volunteers to walk dogs, cat cuddle or to help with general housekeeping at the shelter. Volunteering at our shelter is very rewarding! Our animals love the attention, and the socialization provided by volunteers helps get them adopted more quickly. Dog walkers must be at least 18 years old and able to handle energetic dogs. If you have a few free hours each week, please give us a call at 814-443-2121.

About Us
Report
We are frequently asked how long we keep animals at our shelter, if we are a "no-kill" shelter, and what will happen to an animal that is brought to the Humane Society. We are animal lovers. We hate the idea of putting an animal down -- for any reason. However, unlike other shelters, we take-in all strays from Somerset County -- Owned animals are accepted via a waiting list as soon as room is available. There are times when an animal is simply so vicious that we can not responsibly adopt the pet to a family.
Adopting a Dog: Important Considerations
Report
Note: You may adopt from the Humane Society of Somerset County even if you are not a Somerset County resident. Like sharing your house with someone who sheds, tracks dirt occasionally, and possibly drools. Would like to spend your extra money on pet food, toys, veterinary care, chew bones, and more chew bones.
Adopting a Cat: Important Considerations
Report
Note: You may adopt from the Humane Society of Somerset County even if you are not a Somerset County resident. Don't mind sharing your house with someone who sheds, tracks kitty litter, and throws up hairballs. Love a housemate who will randomly and regularly entertain you with outrageous and silly antics (at their whim, not yours).
Cat Of The Week
Report
Bopp is a handsome fellow who came to the shelter because his owner was no longer able to care for him. He is four years old and loves when new poeple come to meet him or give him a good ear scratch. He will need a home without dogs as he is not very fond of them, he would also need to be with an adult only home or with older children. Please call the shelter if you would like to schedule an appointment to meet Boop.
