Agility Training
Our agility programs develop canine athleticism through obstacle courses, contact equipment, and timed challenges. Handlers learn precise communication techniques while dogs build physical coordination and confidence. The curriculum progresses from foundation skills to competition-level sequences, utilizing both indoor and temporary outdoor courses.
Obedience Classes
Structured obedience instruction covers basic through advanced skills including heeling, recalls, and complex exercise chains. Classes emphasize precision, reliability, and handler-dog communication using positive reinforcement methods. Preparation includes AKC title requirements and trial procedure familiarization.
Scent Work Trials
Scent detection programs teach dogs to identify and alert on specific odors in various environments. Training progresses from foundational scent recognition to advanced search patterns required for competition. The program accommodates all breeds and ability levels in controlled trial settings.
AKC Certification
We administer official AKC evaluations including Canine Good Citizen, Therapy Dog, and specialized performance titles. Testing follows strict AKC guidelines with certified evaluators, providing measurable benchmarks for training achievements and community readiness.

I enrolled my 4 1/2 month old puppy in the puppy obedience program because it is presented online as a positive reinforcement Program. The first day of class, 2 incidents occurred, one frightening, which proved that this was not the case. A very nervous puppy was barking incessantly. The trainer told the owner to grab the puppy's collar by the back, pull hard, and at the same time push down on the dog's muzzle.
She remarked that he would not be able to bark and choke at the same time. When the dog later acted up again, she "settled" the dog (or tried to) by pushing it to the floor forcefully and rolling it on its side. The dog reacted ferociously, growling, snapping, and baring its teeth. Scary! The trainer was lucky not to have been seriously bitten. Of course, she was at fault, not the dog. I ran these two incidents by a friend who is a certified dog trainer. She was appalled. I will not go back.

We are very grateful for the kind, generous, professional, and talented folks who share their expertise with novice canine adoptive families. The classes have been a spectacular addition to George's learning and development path (and even more so to my own!) Heartfelt thanks to all of the instructors and admin support folks who offer their time and volunteer services to keep CABTC going (esp during these Covid times). This has been, and continues to be, a WONDERFUL opportunity!

The classes are taught well. A lot of thought has been put into the curriculum. The teachers have a long history of training their own dogs and develop deep connections with their dogs. It is a great community of people who love to teach.
