The Free Spirit Siberian Rescue opened its doors in 1999 with the intention of rescuing and finding a home for every husky/husky mix in need of rescue. Fast forward twenty years later, and FSSR has saved over 3000 dogs by helping them find their forever homes! This accomplishment couldn't of been done without the passion and love of animals of our president, Karen Ferreri-Miller. Her desire to allow any animal the second chance of finding their happily ever after is what drives her and all of our volunteers.

About Huskies
Report
Siberian Huskies are athletic and make good walking/hiking/jogging partners in cool weather. Many Siberian Huskies possess a high prey drive which manifests itself by chasing small animals. Before considering this lovely breed there are some potentially negative instincts that you must consider. The following paragraphs provide excellent information so that you can make an informed decision before you decide to adopt a Siberian Husky.
Obedience Training
Report
Free Spirit makes every effort to try and match the right Rescue Animal with your family. We do this to make it a safe and fun environment for both the family and the Rescue Animal you have adopted. To meet your expectations, we require that you take your Rescue Animal to obedience training. You may think that obedience training involves the basic commands of "Sit", "Down", and "Wait" but it goes beyond that.
Leadership Exercises
Report
Dogs have always lived in packs. When a dog is adopted, they become part of your pack where there is only one leader (in this case you). The purpose of these exercises is to establish rules and to keep the social order in the pack. They are especially important when starting any training program. You should always eat first before the dog.
