Trusted No-Kill Cat Shelter & Rescue Services in Cambria
Since 1983, our organization has dedicated itself to rescuing and caring for cats in need across Cambria and surrounding communities. As a volunteer-run, no-kill, cage-free shelter, we prioritize compassionate care through adoption programs, spay/neuter initiatives, and feral cat colony management. Our team of passionate volunteers and generous donors enables us to maintain operations without government funding. We focus on reducing feline overpopulation while ensuring every cat receives proper medical attention, vaccinations, and microchipping. Our special Seniors for Seniors program connects older adopters with mature cats, and our Guardian Angel Program provides critical financial support for complex medical treatments. Through community partnerships and educational outreach, we work to promote responsible pet ownership and sustainable animal welfare solutions along California's central coast.

Services
Rescue and Adoption
Our core mission focuses on rescuing cats and kittens while facilitating adoption into loving homes. We provide temporary shelter, medical care, and behavioral assessment for all incoming cats. Our adoption process includes counseling to ensure proper pet-owner matching.
Spay/Neuter Services
We implement comprehensive spay/neuter initiatives to control feline overpopulation. All cats receive sterilization surgery through our veterinary partners before adoption. We also provide community education about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs for feral cats.
Feral Cat Management
Our volunteers monitor local feral cat colonies with regular health checks and sterilization programs. We maintain two managed colonies in Cambria while providing guidance for proper colony maintenance and care practices to community members.
Pet Relinquishment
We offer a safe solution for pet owners unable to care for their cats. Our relinquishment program ensures proper intake procedures, health assessments, and transition to our adoption program while maintaining compassionate care throughout the process.
Volunteer Programs
Our volunteer-driven operations rely on dedicated individuals for daily shelter maintenance, cat socialization, adoption events, and colony management. We provide training and support for volunteers interested in animal care and community outreach programs.

This is the best place to adopt a cat/kitten. Check their website and see what's available. We are driving up 200+ miles to adopt one!

Non profit cat rescue with lots of kittens, adult and senior cats. Well kept, no kill shelter. Separate areas for kittens and cats where they roam outside cages. Separate area for ailing animals. All volunteer and always looking for more to help out. Donations needed to care for the animals.

An impressive shelter for a relatively small town. Well run, with an educated group making sure the cats are getting the best care possible. They do all they can to keep the cats healthy while still allowing visitors, have well thought out rooms that give the cats comfort and stimulation, and they have one of the best shelter gift shops that I've seen.

Dec 2020 This is a great place! It is clean & cheerful & has a gift shop. All the cats are well-cared for, happy & are not kept in cages. There are plenty of toys, scratching posts, wall shelves & cat trees available. If you want to adopt an adult cat, this is the place. Hart relies on donations & volunteers, so, IMO, this is a worthwhile place to support with either your time or money.

Every time we go to Cambria we try to drop by and visit Hart. They have quite a good selection of cats and a shop full of knickknacks that one can purchase. They have an excellent staff and you can see that they really want to be there and to help the people and the cats. The one thing that stands out about Hart is how clean and well-maintained the facility is. Their animals are healthy, well cared for and happy. If you have a chance 2 visit Cambria do take a minute to stop by. Hey Survive on the people's generosity and believe me they are doing a great job.
