About Us
Report
Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center (SAVS) was founded in 1994 by Dr. Mary K. Klein and Dr. Reuben Merideth. At the time, Tucson did not have a multi-specialty veterinary group for patients with multiple or complicated needs. As a result, pet owners were required to travel between several veterinary clinics to care for their animals.

Suspect poisoning or toxicities (rat bait, anti-freeze, medication, etc.) ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center. Our veterinary emergency center treats the most critically ill or seriously injured patients first.
Specialties
Report
When your pet needs advanced diagnostics or procedures, your family veterinarian may refer you to a veterinary specialist. A veterinary specialist is a doctor with 3-5 years additional education in a specific area of medicine. Our veterinary specialists at SAVS are board-certified and maintain the highest quality of care for their patients.
Dentistry
Report
Most pet patients seen in veterinary practice today actually need an annual thorough dental exam and cleaning from a veterinary dentistry specialist, which includes supragingival and subgingival cleaning, intraoral evaluation, polishing, and further periodontal therapy. A comprehensive pet dental cleaning at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists involves the removal of plaque and calculus either with hand instruments or sonic/ultrasonic instruments above and below the gingival margin, periodontal probing, intra-oral radiographs, charting, and more involved treatment such as deep periodontal therapy or extractions if indicated.
